Greetings Athletes, Sponsors, and Friends of Athletes, 2026 is a very special year for Oklahoma athletes. Oklahoma is the host state for the 2027 National Senior Games presented by Humana, June 30-July11, 2027. Because of this Oklahoma resident athletes who compete in the 2026 Oklahoma Senior Games qualify for national competition in a special way. Please read Nationals qulification requirements on page 65.

This is going to be an amazing year. OSG will host more than twenty (20) Fitness Challenge locations. The increase in the number and locations of sites will make testing more accessible to athletes interested in assessing their current physical fitness level.

OSG has developed a program to assist athletes who want to learn a new sport. It replaces TSET funding. OSG is looking for athletes who want to sponsor practice sessions for other athletes. Athletes will receive an email introducing this innovative new program. Information about it will also be on the OSG website. You do not have to be an OSG athlete to donate.

We are very much enjoying the interaction we are experiencing with the NSGA staff. Because they move from one geographic area to the next every two years, it is helpful for them to have input from state residents about the best sports facilities and the best places to host social events during the games. Selected Okie athletes and the OSG staff have made many suggestions that will help the national staff determine the best location for each event in the Tulsa area. The national games’ presence at potential facilities and their interaction with local commissions, agencies, and people are introducing more people to the senior games movement. This will boost participation in the Oklahoma Senior Games.

Enjoy this commemorative program. It announces the sites, dates, and times for all of the Oklahoma Senior Games sporting events. It also features many of our outstanding athletes and their accomplishments—not all of which are in the field of sports, as you will read.

Although she is not yet eligible for the Senior Games, she already knows what she will do when the time comes. “Track will be number one,” she said. “Then basketball.” For now, she channels that competitive energy into coaching and organizing. She recruits players, builds teams, and encourages members to see themselves as athletes again. “I tell them, ‘Let’s go see what you can do,’” she said.

FRANCOIS BODA NEVER QUIT. HE JUST TOOK A 15-YEAR BREAK

For most athletes, stepping away from competition for 15 years would mark the end of a career. For Francois Boda, it was just an intermission. Now approaching 62, the Midwest City resident is once again competing at the highest levels of track and field, chasing world championships and training with a discipline that would humble athletes half his age. Yet his current success is only part of the story. What makes Boda’s journey remarkable and deeply inspiring to other seniors is what happened in between.

Boda didn’t even start running until age 20. Growing up in Mauritius, he played soccer before a coach recognized his speed and encouraged him to try track. The switch paid off quickly. He went on to compete internationally and even served as captain of his national team.

Then he walked away. “I got married, started a business career, and I was working long hours,” Boda said. “So I stopped for 15 years.” Fifteen years away from the sport he once excelled in. Fifteen years of building a career in business. Fifteen years where many athletes would have quietly let that chapter close.

But Boda never saw it that way. At 42, after retiring from business to pursue teaching, he made a promise to his high school soccer team: if they won a state championship, he would return to running.

They won. And just like that, Boda was back. Only this time, things were very different. “When I started again, I was terrible,” he said with a laugh. “It took me two years of very hard… humiliation.” It would have been easy to quit. Logical, even. Instead, Boda leaned into something deeper. “If I start something, I’m going to do it 100%,” he said. “I’m not going to go back on my word.” That mindset carried him through the grind of rebuilding. Slowly, his body responded. His speed returned. Eventually, he climbed back to the highest levels of competition, including regional, national, and international.

Today, Boda is a decorated athlete with dozens of national titles and multiple world championship medals. He trains up to 10 times a week, often twice a day. He has also learned to adapt. “I’m letting my body tell me what to do,” he said. “As you get older, you cannot do things the same way you always did.”

But while Boda competes at an elite level, his message to other seniors is surprisingly simple and encouraging. Start slow. “Don’t go on the track and try to run as hard as you can right away,” he said. “Start walking. Then walk faster. Then jog.” It’s the same approach he used in his comeback. Over months and eventually years, he let his body and mind adapt together. Rushing the process, he warns, is the fastest way to get injured or discouraged. He now shares openly the advice to be patient when starting training.

At events like the Oklahoma Senior Games, Boda often finds himself surrounded by first-time competitors seeking guidance. “I never turn down anyone who asks for advice,” he said. “I know how hard it is when you start.” That may be where his impact is felt most, not just in medals or records but in the moments of encouragement that help others take their first step. For Boda, the Oklahoma Senior Games are about more than competition. “It’s about meeting my friends,” he said. “It’s about encouraging people.

Sometimes they look at me and say, ‘I want to do what you’re doing.’”

At 62, Boda still weighs the same as he did in his 20s.

More importantly, he still feels capable of anything.

“There’s no reason to say your youth is gone,” he said.

“We have a body that can dictate how we want to feel.”

That belief, earned through setbacks, discipline, and a 15-year detour, is what makes his story resonate.

Boda didn’t just come back to running. He proved it’s never too late to start again.

That includes managing injuries. Boda still deals with lingering physical issues and has had to give up other sports he loves, such as soccer and tennis, to prevent setbacks. Rather than viewing those limitations as barriers, he treats them as part of the process.

The goal remains the same: to be the best he can be.

That relentless standard drives him. “For me, it’s about wanting to compete at the highest level,” Boda said. “That makes me prepare extremely hard. I want to know that when I step on the track, I’ve done my homework.”

Bowlers cannot compete in team or mixed team bowling except in this manner.

6. Bowlers may only compete on one fourperson team. Any combination of gender is considered a mixed team.

7. Team bowling will have three divisions: Men’s, Women’s and Mixed.

FORMAT 1. The tournament Event Director will assign bowling times and lanes.

2. Bowlers will bowl three games for each event. Winners will be determined by the total score of the three games.

The tournament uses bowler’s scratch scores to determine champions.

TULSA ATHLETE BUILDS COMMUNITY THROUGH SENIOR SPORTS

For much of her early life, Angela Swift didn’t have the chance to fully explore athletics.

Growing up in rural Oklahoma, opportunities for girls in sports were limited and inconsistent. Some years, there were teams.

Some years there weren’t. Organized leagues were rare. Access depended on where you lived, and sometimes, simply on timing. “I only got to play basketball from fourth to eighth grade,” Swift said. “After that, the school I went to didn’t have sports for girls.”

Still, she found ways to stay active whenever she could, playing intramurals at Oklahoma State University in college and later joining softball teams in her 20s. But for decades, sports were more of a background presence than a central part of her life.

If there’s one thing Swift is most proud of, it isn’t a medal or a personal best. It’s what she’s helped build. When she first got involved, Tulsa had only a single senior women’s basketball presence: a group of players nearing their 80s. Now, that community has grown into multiple teams across age groups, from players in their 40s to those in their 80s, all practicing, competing, and supporting one another. “I don’t take credit for it,” she said. “But I feel like I helped get it started.”

That changed after retirement. Swift spent her professional career as a certified public accountant, eventually becoming an executive in the oil and gas industry. It was a demanding career—one that kept her behind a desk for long hours. Not long after, she found her way to the Oklahoma Senior Games, subbing in for a Texas basketball team without knowing a single teammate. “I didn’t know to be scared. I was just excited for the opportunity.” That first game was eye-opening. “The intensity, the strength of the other women. It was startling,” she said. “But it was also exhilarating.”

What began as a one-time experience quickly grew into something much bigger. Today, Swift is deeply involved in multiple sports through the Oklahoma Senior Games, with basketball at its center. She competes in three-on-three tournaments across Oklahoma and neighboring states, while also running track events like the 50- and 100-meter sprints. And last year, she did something she hadn’t done in more than five decades. “I high jumped for the first time in 52 years,” she said. It wasn’t about medals. It wasn’t about winning. “I just wanted to see if I could still do it.” She cleared the bar. And then headed off to run her sprint events. Mission accomplished.

Swift has competed in tournaments across the region, including Arkansas, Texas, New Mexico, and Mississippi, as well as in national competitions in places like Pittsburgh and Des Moines. Along the way, she’s faced challenges, from the physical demands of multi-day tournaments to managing exercise-induced asthma. But the biggest adjustment wasn’t physical. It was mental. “You think you’re in shape,” she said. “Then you get out there and realize you’ve got three more games to play today.” Still, she keeps coming back.

That growth represents something larger than sport. It’s about creating space for women who didn’t always have one. At 70, Swift is still sprinting, competing, and traveling to tournaments. But perhaps her most important audience isn’t on the court. It’s her grandchildren. “I want them to see that their grandma can be active and healthy at this age,” she said. “To have a positive outlook on what life looks like later on.”

For Swift, the Oklahoma Senior Games are more than a return to athletics. They’re a second chance, one she’s using not only for herself but also to inspire others. From a childhood of limited opportunities to a retirement filled with competition, connection, and purpose, she’s proof that sometimes the best chapters come later. And sometimes they start with simply stepping back onto the court.

SENIOR ATHLETE REFUSES TO LET FEAR WIN

Regina Stewart always knew how to keep moving forward, but she avoided the deep end. Growing up in P a u l s Va l l e y, O k l a h o m a , s h e c a m e from a large family and was quickly recognized as the most athletic girl.

Despite limited sports options, she made her mark by winning the Junior Olympics in sixth grade. She started playing basketball in her junior year a n d a d d e d t r a c k i n h e r s e n i o r y e a r.

Starting over meant learning fundamentals most swimmers take for granted. Breathing underwater. Floating. Staying calm when her feet could not touch the bottom. That last part mattered most. “It has really made a difference,” she said, “because I always had a fear that if I couldn’t touch the bottom, I’d panic.”

She is now in her second round of classes, and the fear that once controlled her has loosened its grip. “I’m not afraid of getting in the water,” Stewart said. “It’s definitely been a great experience, and I’m glad I did it.”

After high school, she kept competing wherever she could, playing softball in the summers and later running in the Sooner State Games and the Corporate Challenge. Track and field stayed with her, even as life made it harder to prioritize it.

Today, Stewart competes in track and field at the Oklahoma Senior Games, where she has also played on the women’s basketball team in the past.

Since 2011, she has advanced to the National Senior Games seven times. “It’s really an awesome experience,” she said, of making nationals. “An experience I’ve always wanted. My goal was to go to the Olympics.” What makes the Senior Games special, she said, is the people. “It’s neat to have like-minded athletes that are your age,” Stewart said. “So it’s really cool.”

For decades, though, one sport remained completely off-limits. Swimming. As a teenager, Stewart jumped off a diving board at a local pool, believing she could swim. She nearly drowned. The incident left her shaken and afraid of the water.

More than that, she never had the chance to learn properly. “I never wanted to after that,” she said.

That fear stayed with her into adulthood. Even as she continued to compete and push herself in other sports, water remained a boundary she did not cross. Until her grandchildren asked her to.

Her granddaughter loves swim parties and wanted Stewart in the pool with her. That question lingered. Then, last August, Stewart decided to take advantage of training available through a TSET grant for senior athletes. “I kept talking about it and talking about it,” she said. “So why not try it?”

She signed up. At first, she was placed in an advanced class, but that did not last long. “My coach told me, ‘I think you need to go to a beginner’s class,’” Stewart said.

Finding time to commit to the training was the hardest part, she said. “It’s easy to say, ‘That’s okay, I can learn later,’” Stewart said. “But really making an effort to go and learn was the biggest challenge.” Along the way, she found something unexpected. “It’s surprising that in the class I’ve met several people my age,” she said.

This summer, Stewart plans to compete in swimming at the Oklahoma Senior Games. Even more important, she plans to be ready for her granddaughter’s birthday swim party in June.

“I’ll definitely be ready for that,” she said.

Looking back, Stewart sees the decision clearly.

“If you never do it, you’ll regret not doing it,” she said. “I got past that fear, and it’s not holding me back.” For someone who has spent her life moving forward, that may be her greatest victory yet.

FOR YEARS, REBECCA MURDOCK HAD A PLAN.

She first learned about the Oklahoma Senior Games while walking through the Tulsa State Fair, passing a booth that caught her eye. At the time, she wasn’t old enough to compete. Life was full of raising children, teaching, and staying busy. But she remembers thinking: “That’s something I want to do someday.”

Years later, that “someday” has become something much bigger. “I started in 2023,” she said. “Now I do seven sports.”

That challenge hasn’t discouraged her. It’s motivated her. Along the way, she’s turned competitions into more than just events. They’ve become opportunities to travel, reconnect with family, and build new friendships. From staying with relatives during competitions in Iowa and Minnesota to sightseeing stops like Cadillac Ranch, the journey has become as meaningful as the results. “This is what makes retirement great,” she said.

That list includes bowling, basketball, billiards, track and field, swimming, and a rotating mix of recreational events. What began with just a couple of competitions has grown into a full-fledged lifestyle that has taken her across seven states and counting.

Rebecca grew up in Iowa in a family where sports weren’t just encouraged—they were expected. That foundation never really left her. Even during her career as an elementary special education teacher in Tulsa, she stayed active through bowling leagues and by encouraging her children and now her grandchildren to stay active. But it wasn’t until she retired five years ago that she found the time to fully return to sports.

What makes Rebecca stand out isn’t just that she competes. It’s how much she competes. Seven sports would be overwhelming for most people, but for her, it’s energizing. “I just kept adding things I did when I was younger,” she said. “Things I still enjoy.”

She trains constantly: throwing in her backyard, swimming at a local recreation center, and playing in weekly leagues. She studies technique through YouTube videos and connects with other athletes across the country for advice. “I tell people, I want criticism,” she said. “Tell me how I can get better.”

That mindset has paid off. Whether she’s preparing for a javelin throw or a swim meet, she’s always chasing improvement.

While she insists she doesn’t have a favorite sport, she admits there’s a simple rule: “The most fun is the one you’re winning,” she said, laughing. Since starting with the Oklahoma Senior Games, Rebecca has competed in multiple states, including New Mexico, where she recently tested herself against a new age group. She expected the competition to ease as she got older. It didn’t. “I thought it would thin out,” she said. “But it was fiercer. A lot of people retire and start doing this more.”

Despite her competitive nature—something her kids would be quick to confirm—Rebecca says the Oklahoma Senior Games are about more than medals. They’re about community. But for Rebecca, the impact of the Oklahoma Senior Games goes beyond competition, travel, and even community. It’s about health. It’s about movement. It’s about continuing to live fully.

After dealing with hip replacements and arthritis, she knows the importance of staying active.

“Motion is lotion,” she said. “It helps my arthritis.

It keeps me healthier.” Instead of slowing down, she’s leaned in. “Rather than sitting in a rocking chair, which I do love, especially with my grandkids, I get to go out and take care of myself.”

Like many Oklahoma athletes, she has her sights set on something even bigger: the 2027 National Senior Games in Tulsa. For her, it’s more than a home event. It’s a celebration of everything the journey has become. From a passing moment at a state fair booth to a life filled with competition, travel, and connection, Rebecca’s story is a reminder that it’s never too late to start something new.

Edmondson said, not because people lack work ethic but because opportunities are limited. “Out here we don’t have — we didn’t have — gyms and coaches or anything to have a healthier community,” Edmondson said. “We were just out here on our own.”

Edmondson, a native of Cyril, graduated from Cameron University with a degree in communications and a minor in health and physical education. Sports were part of her life growing up, but adulthood gradually pulled her away from fitness. That changed at age 36, when she was diagnosed with colon cancer and began chemotherapy. “I decided right then and there that when this chemo and all this junk is over, I am going to get myself in shape and turn my life around,” she said.

Inspired by a work friend who competed in triathlons, Edmondson began training and recruited her friend Terri Hayworth to join her at age 52. Hayworth was raised in Anadarko with four older brothers and grew up wrestling, running, and working out before sunrise. She wrestled competitively until girls were barred from the sport in high school. “They decided they didn’t want girls to wrestle,” Hayworth said. “I was undefeated.”

Together they trained for triathlons, which became their ticket to traveling the world, participating in events not only across the US but also in Italy, Spain, Canada, Mexico, and Costa Rica. The two friends are no longer just training partners: they eventually became business partners.

Fitness classes at The Refinery gym began more than three years ago, before they owned it. With support from the Tobacco Settlement Endowment Trust (TSET), coaching was free, which helped build trust and a loyal following.

After the duo purchased the gym, the philosophy remained the same. Community first. No pressure. Show up if you can.

The response surprised even them — classes filled quickly, with participants driving from multiple counties.

GENERAL RULES The following are the procedures and rules of competition governing the 2026 Oklahoma Senior Games. The Games are held during the months of August through early November in Oklahoma City, Moore, Norman, Muskogee, Edmond, Tulsa, Tulsa County, Perry, Lawton, Weatherford, Broken Arrow, Bixby, Tahlequah, Jenks, Ramona, Duncan, and Woodward.

A. AGE FOR COMPETITION AT OKLAHOMA SENIOR GAMES. Age divisions for all singles competitions are determined by the athlete’s age as of December 31, 2026. Age divisions for all competitions will be determined by the following age categories and will apply to both men and women for all individual, doubles, and relay competitions: 50-54; 55-59; 60-64; 65-69; 70-74; 75-79; 80-84; 85-89; 90-94; 95-99 and 100+.

It is the responsibility of the athlete to provide appropriate photo identification proving age and residency upon request. 3 vs 3 Basketball, Volleyball and Softball have the following divisions for both men and women: 50+; 55+; 60+; 65+; 70+, 75+and 80+.

Line Dance and Ballroom Dance have the following age divisions: 50-59, 60-69, 70-79 and 80+.

Sport Directors reserve the right to combine age groups.

The Oklahoma Senior Games reserves the right to offer 40-44 and 45-49 age group divisions for badminton, cycling, table tennis, disc golf, basketball, basketball shooting, softball, volleyball, water walk, power lifting, and other competitions.

Divisions under 50 do not qualify participants for National Senior Games competition.

B. DOUBLES PARTNERS This year, ONLY teams for doubles/mixed doubles events who consist of two Oklahoma Residents or one Oklahoma resident and one out-of -state player are considered Oklahoma resident teams. Badminton, Bowling, Cornhole, Pickleball, Table Tennis, and Tennis doubles partners must be of the same gender.

Note: These events have separate mixed doubles competitions. Shuffleboard and 8 Ball doubles may be of mixed gender. All doubles and mixed doubles pairs must compete in the age division of the younger partner as of December 31, 2026.

Athletes may compete with only one partner per event.

C. TEAMS Rosters are limited to 10 for basketball, 10 for line dance, and 15 for dragon boat race, 15 for volleyball and 22 for softball. Age divisions for team competition are determined by the age of the youngest team member as of December 31, 2026.

D. TEAM UNIFORMS Team clothing (shirts, pants, shorts) must be of like design and color. Teams must have both “home” and “away” uniforms with permanently attached numbers on the front and back. Sponsors may be added to the jersey, but cannot interfere with number placement.

E. UNIFORMS AT THE OKLAHOMA SENIOR GAMES All athletes must wear athletic-type clothing and shoes that are usual and customary for the sport in which they are competing. Street-type clothing and shoes that are inappropriate and may cause disqualification. Event Directors have authorization from the Oklahoma Senior Games to make this determination. Uniforms shall be free of inappropriate symbols or wording.

F. PROFESSIONAL ATHLETES Professional athletes are not eligible to compete in the Oklahoma Senior Games in the sport which they are or were a professional until 20 years after the date they last competed as a professional.

They may compete in other sports in which they have not competed professionally.

G. OUT OF STATE RESIDENTS Out-of-state individuals and teams are welcome to compete at the Oklahoma Senior Games. The athlete’s state of residence is the state where the person resides for at least six months out of the year.

H. EVENT ENTRY LIMITS: Athletes may enter as many sports or events within a sport as they wish, with two exceptions. In archery, athletes may enter only two events; swimmers are limited to participation in 6 events.

I. REQUIRED CREDENTIALS Any player unable to provide the required credentials on the playing field shall be declared ineligible to compete until he/she can produce them. A manager may request verification of a player’s eligibility. Should a player play and be unable to provide the required credentials, he/she or his/her team will forfeit all games in which the player participated. A valid government -issued photo identification card, such as a driver’s license, tribal membership card, or passport, are the only age and residency proofs accepted.

J. CODE OF CONDUCT Participation in the Oklahoma Senior Games as a player, coach or spectator is a privilege to be attained by meeting the standards of good sportsmanship and appropriate conduct as defined here and in the rules governing each individual sport.

Athletes are bound to the virtues of fairness, integrity, and responsibility.

HOW TO REGISTER FOR THE OKLAHOMA SENIOR GAMES ALL ATHLETES Enter contact information and then select the event or events in which you plan to compete.

Indicate if you will be attending the Celebration of Athletes. There is a $10 fee For the Celebration of Athletes and a $10 fee for each guest you bring to the celebration. You will also be asked if you would like to purchase tickets to the Black & White Ball at $20 each. These tickets can be purchased later if you wish, using your last name and your Confirmation Number.

At the end, you enter your payment information and receive a receipt and a CONFIRMATION NUMBER. Please save your Confirmation Number so you will be able to view or update your registration. For specific event information, event videos, and specific event flyers, click on Events on the OSG home page. Scroll to the event and click on it. If you are unable to use the computer to register, please call the Oklahoma Senior Games office. Regina Stewart will assist with your registration by phone. There is a $10 fee for phone service. QUALIFYING FOR NATIONALS

TEAM SPORT REGISTRATION There are no early bird fees for team sports. All team members pay the $5 individual registration fee.

You can sign up as an individual and be placed on a team. If this would be your only event, you will be charged only the $5 registration fee. You pay your share of the team fee to the team captain. You, however, must complete the entire registration form. If you are participating in a team event, you pay your team fee to your captain AND if you are participating in another event, you pay the OSG fee of $75 or $65.

HOST STATE QUALIFICATION: All in-state athletes who compete in designated qualifying sports at the 2026 Oklahoma Senior Games will qualify for the 2027 National Senior Games.

Host State Qualification applies to the following qualifying sports at the 2026 Oklahoma Senior Games: Archery, Badminton, 3-on-3 Basketball, Bowling, Cycling, Golf, Road Race, Shuffleboard, Swimming, Table Tennis, Tennis, Track & Field, Triathlon, Volleyball. An in-state athlete is defined as an athlete who resides in Oklahoma for at least six months of the year. In-state status will be determined by the athlete’s address on file with NSGA.
