his year has reminded us – again and again – of the extraordinary strength and unity of the Jewish people, both around the world and right here within our Beth Tfiloh community. From moments of global resilience to everyday acts of kindness in our own classrooms and synagogue, we’ve seen how powerful it is when Am Yisrael stands together. Since October 7th, we’ve stood together through heartbreak, uncertainty, and loss, with hostages still held in Gaza and now a new wave of conflict unfolding in Israel and Iran. These have been deeply painful and destabilizing times for Jews around the world. And yet, within our Beth Tfiloh community, we’ve also found strength, purpose, and connection. This past year, we reflected on our BT Moments – those turning points when Beth Tfiloh becomes more than just a place. For some, it’s a child’s first day of school, a meaningful Yizkor service, or dancing together on Yom Ha’Atzmaut. For others, it’s the comfort of walking into the synagogue after a hard week, or the support of teachers and clergy during moments of joy and sorrow. These are the moments when Beth Tfiloh becomes a home, a source of belonging, and a safe place to land. Thank you for standing with us – for supporting our students, congregants, teachers, clergy, volunteers, alumni, school parents, grandparents, and every person who gives life to our community. Thank you for recognizing the power of inspired educators, the importance of meaningful prayer and programming, and the impact of the physical space to meet the evolving needs of both our school and synagogue. CENTENNIAL CAMPAIGN The donor investments made as a part of Beth Tfiloh’s Centennial Campaign have had and will continue to have an indelible impact on our school and synagogue communities. These donor families and foundations have transformed and reinvented several key areas of our campus and have created endowments to support the most important areas of our mission: faculty recruitment and retention, educational and social programming for our synagogue, and student support services for social/emotion and academic needs and affordability of the Beth Tfiloh experience.

Jacob Benus Memorial Field This year, athletes and fans alike experienced the thrill of our new Benus Memorial Turf Field. Our girls and boys soccer and lacrosse teams as well as our girls softball teams were treated to a magnificent playing experience, and the fans thoroughly enjoyed the expanded observation deck and bleachers. The new field allowed us to host a Jewish Day School soccer tournament and several other league games. Our field already has a great reputation in the community. It’s truly been a game changer! Social Emotional and Student Support Endowment Fund: The Social/Emotional and Student Support Endowment Fund serves a critical role to ensure that students are well cared for and that as many children as possible are able to be academically successful at BT. This endowment fund supports our social emotional learning program as well as school counselors in each division. Additionally, this

The Ivdu Program Center generously dedicated by Irene and Robert Russel, has fast become one the most sought after spaces within Beth Tfiloh to hold educational and social programming for adult learners, meeting facilities for our boards and committees, welcome events for new families, staff meetings, and so much more. The space is conducive to a vast array of program and meeting layouts and offers an upscale professional and warm feeling that is being enjoyed by so many of our members and families.

Louise and Morton J. Macks Library Nearly 30 years ago, the Macks family’s original gift created a dedicated library for our High School - a cornerstone of learning and community at BT. Their ongoing commitment and belief in both BT and the importance of Jewish education led to a recent, extensive renovation that has transformed the space for today’s students. Today, the Macks Upper School Library is THE go-to spot for everything from small classes and group projects to collaborative studying. It also hosts inspiring speakers - including members of the Knesset and various local organizations who often come to connect with students through our Senior Seminar program, preparing them for life beyond school. Because of the Macks family’s generosity and vision, the library remains a vibrant hub where students come together to learn, grow, and connect.

ENDOWMENT FUNDS Membership Subsidy Endowment Fund One of the most important signs of a healthy congregation is a robust and growing young family population. We are so very fortunate to have many of these young families as active and engaged members of our community. We are able to attract and retain young families because of the affordable membership rates offered to families under 40. The membership subsidy endowment fund, in addition to supporting members of all ages who are unable to afford full membership dues, also provides Beth Tfiloh with the financial flexibility to keep young family membership dues at a reasonable rate. Faculty and Staff Recruitment and Retention Endowment Fund The Faculty and Staff Recruitment and Retention Fund has begun to provide the kind of flexibility Beth Tfiloh needs to remain competitive in today’s educational market. The draw from this fund is used to cover several key cost centers associated with faculty recruitment and retention including but not limited to professional recruiting firm fees (specifically in the areas of science, math and STEM), increased salary offers for teachers we are seeking to recruit who are receiving offers from other independent schools, and supporting salary increases and benefits improvements for current teachers.

When we first moved to Baltimore, one of our very first experiences was walking into shul and being welcomed by the first person we saw - who not only greeted us warmly but also showed us exactly where to go. From that moment, we felt at home. One of our proudest moments as parents was watching our children perform in the Lower School Production. A few years ago, they wouldn’t have had the confidence to get up and sing in front of an audience. This year, they did it with pride and joy.

COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP Recently, past and current shul leaders came together to reflect on our shared vision, and talk through hopes and priorities for the future. The depth of experience around the table and the deep care for our community continues to shape and strengthen our shul. With more than 750 campers between our Old Court Road and main BT Camps campuses, the energy of summer is everywhere with Israel-inspired activities, instructional swim lessons (3 pools!), lake boating, ziplining, a splashpad, sports, arts & crafts, and so much more. BT Camps continues to be a standout choice for families and recently won “Best Camp” in the Baltimore Jewish Times 2025 Best of Jewish Baltimore awards. We warmly welcomed our high schoolers who were inducted into Beth Tfiloh’s chapter of the National Honor Society this spring. Members must demonstrate not only academic excellence, but also leadership, character, service, and a weighted GPA of 3.9 or higher, in additional to involvement with numerous community events such as the House of Ruth, Weekend Backpacks, and multiple fundraisers.

JOY OF JUDAISM The Schlissel Challah Bake that took place right after Pesach brought together school and shul members as students, parents, staff, congregants, and friends of all ages shared in this special tradition. The key-shaped challah symbolizes opening the door to blessings, sustenance, and new opportunities in the year ahead... something we can all hope for and connect with in our own way. This special event is sponsored by Shelley & Robert Kaye and family. It was one of the sweetest days of the year when our Preschool 4s class planned and hosted a full Purim carnival just for the Preschool 2s. With toss-across games, face painting, photo ops, drawing stations, party favors, and special treats, every detail was thoughtfully designed with the younger children in mind. After days of planning and excitement, the 2s had a blast, and the 4s beamed with pride. BT Lower School milestone programs mark meaningful moments in our students’ Jewish journeys, as they receive their siddurim, chumashim, Pirkei Avot and Tehillim, that help them connect to prayer, tradition, and Jewish living. As Rabbi Posner shared, “The point… is to help you connect with Hashem - wherever you are, whenever you need.” Students reflected on how these sacred texts guide them to pause with intention, make thoughtful choices, express gratitude, and feel Hashem’s presence in both joyful and challenging moments. 8

I feel blessed for the opportunity to represent our community on the first Momentum/BT partnership moms trip to Israel. There is no community like the women by your side as you walk through the Old City of Jerusalem, experience the Nova Festival site with linked arms, and stay up laughing and crying over Marzipan rugalach and Israeli wine until the early hours of the morning on the hotel mirpeset (balcony). I left the Momentum Israel trip with an expanded village to support me, for us to support each other, as we navigate motherhood and Jewish life together. Momentum trips are immersive experiences bringing together women from around the globe in the heart of Israel, and sharing this experience with BT moms was life-changing.

ACADEMICS After months of preparation, BT seventh grade students recently brought their Mock Trials to life in a real Towson courtroom. Armed with everything they’ve learned about law, government, and persuasive communication, they presented their cases in a setting that made the experience both authentic and unforgettable. These students didn’t just study the art of argument - they mastered it. The Lower School AKIVA Program sponsored by the Auster family supports students with language-based learning differences by providing individualized instruction in small groups while keeping them included in general classrooms. Students receive personalized learning plans tailored to their needs, with a mix of support during regular classes and targeted sessions outside the classroom. This hybrid approach helps students strengthen skills like reading and writing while staying connected to the wider school community. The program is designed for children with diagnosed or suspected language-based learning challenges. Our Middle School Robotics Club and SWAP (School-Wide Arts Program) students competed at the spring Center for Initiatives in Jewish Education (CIJE) VEX Robotics Tournament in New York City, and their hard work paid off. Out of 140 teams, two of our BT teams placed in the top ten, earning 7th and 9th place finishes. After months of designing, testing, and refining, our middle schoolers put their bots and their skills to the test, competing alongside teams from across the country. SYNAGOGUE LIFE In May, our community had the opportunity to hear from Ambassador David Friedman, former U.S. Ambassador to Israel and author of One Jewish State. As part of the Dahan Lecture Series, sponsored by the Haron Dahan Foundation, Ambassador Friedman spoke about his role in key moments of U.S.-Israel relations, including the U.S. Embassy move to Jerusalem, recognition of Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights, and the Abraham Accords. Our Pre-Pesach Women’s Night Out is an evening we look forward to each year. Over a delicious dairy dinner, guests unleashed their creativity with Maryland glass artist Shayna Heller, crafting beautiful, fused glass wine stoppers to brighten their seders. The evening was elevated by inspiring Pesach insights from Dr. Zipora Schorr and Mrs. Chana Slavaticki. Thank you to Beth and Michael Sellman and family for sponsoring the event in memory of Rosalie Sellman. This year, we’ve introduced more opportunities than ever for our community to engage with their clergy through a variety of “Ask the Rabbi” moments. Congregants have been invited to bring their most pressing, practical, and curious questions to Rabbis Posner, Wohlberg, Yoggev, Goldstein, and Wecker, as well as to Chazzan Rose ’04. Whether on camera or in conversation, these moments have sparked meaningful dialogue and deepened connections to Jewish life and learning. 12

Rozzie & Harold Taylor, congregants, parents of alumni & grandparents of alumni

My mom passed away on Giving Tuesday, just four days before our grandson’s Bar Mitzvah. As we sat shiva, I couldn’t imagine how I’d find the strength to show up that Saturday and celebrate with our extended family. Then, on Friday before Shabbat, Rabbi Posner came to visit. Along with his comforting words and wisdom, he played a song for me - The Deaf Man in the Shteeble. In that moment, I knew: my mom would hear her great-grandson chant his beautiful Torah portion. She would be with us, always.

ARTS &ATHLETICS The 36th annual Weiner Family Basketball Tournament was made possible by the generosity of the Weiner family. The entire BT community came together, bringing the ruach for a tournament filled with energy, friendship, and standout basketball. Mazel tov to our Lady Warriors on their second-place finish. The fall and spring Middle School Band Concerts have been vibrant celebrations of our students’ talent, teamwork, and the steady growth of our music program. While 5th and 6th graders focus on traditional band music, our 7th and 8th graders explore a wider range of styles, from band classics to vocal performances and rock band sets featuring everything from contemporary hits to classical favorites. These concerts, often joined by guest faculty musicians, showcase just how deeply our students connect with music in all its forms. BT high school art students explored the layered and meticulous process of silk screening. Bella C. ’26 worked on a John Lennon print, using a squeegee to apply her first layer of ink. The BT boys varsity soccer team took on an impressive alumni team in this year’s inaugural alumni soccer game. Hosted on BT’s new turf, The Jacob Benus Memorial Field, our alumni enjoyed a competitive game, beating our varsity team in overtime with a penalty shootout.

We were very excited to welcome many of our alumni back to BT as guest teachers in various classrooms. Our alums returned to teach and share their expertise in geopolitics, technology, history, physics, and math with our high school students. They also spoke about Jewish campus life, internship opportunities and campus safety during these times of rising antisemitism.

My BT moment? Well, as you can imagine, there have been countless over the years, but one moment this year filled my heart beyond words - sitting alongside 185 children of alumni, who are now BT students. I handed at least one of their parents - and in some cases both parents - their high school diplomas. There is no greater nachat than seeing ‘my children’ choose Beth Tfiloh for their own children. It’s the ultimate sign that our values, our Jewish neshamot, and our love for Torah and learning are being passed mi dor l’dor - from generation to generation.

Beth Tfiloh Honor Roll 2024-2025

CHESED Chesed - loving kindness - is a core value of Jewish life and a guiding force in our community at Beth Tfiloh. BT’s synagogue Chesed Committee brought that value to life through many hands-on acts of giving this year. Highlights included the nearly 20 volunteers who came together to prepare and pack 150 bag lunches for the South Baltimore community served by Paul’s Place. On a monthly basis, shul volunteers spend a morning at Paul’s Place serving lunch, sorting clothing, and delivering packed meals. Recently, our seventh graders turned compassion into action, planning and running a Purim carnival for Chai Lifeline Mid-Atlantic Region. Through their creativity and kindness, our students planned an afternoon of laughter, excitement, and joy to children facing medical challenges, making a meaningful impact that will be remembered far beyond the festivities. Our lower schoolers spent the year focusing on meaningful ways to incorporate acts of chesed into their daily lives. Kindergartners visited Adamah Farm and Fellowship, connecting with nature and Jewish values. First graders supported the Baltimore Hunger Project. Second graders assembled Mugs of Love to lift the spirits of those in need. Third graders brought joy to nursing home residents with songs, stories, and smiles. Fourth graders took their learning a step further, welcoming guests from Jewish Community Services and Chimes for a morning of laughter, games, and connection. 20

My BT moment came in 1962 when Rabbi Rosenblatt officiated at the ceremony of my marriage to Barbara Friner. As a congregation Board officer, and then later as the President of the school Board of Trustees, my life has been centered around Beth Tfiloh and still is to this day.

It is deeply meaningful to stumble upon BT as young parents looking for a Jewish day school for our children and then decades later seeing our grandkids at BT Grandparents Day. The kids are over the moon to not just interact with their grandparents, but because they love being at BT. My favorite part of Grandparents Day was doing an art project with my grandkids. We were so pleased to host the Israeli vendor fair, SHUK to the Core this past spring, and to help kick off this three-week tour supporting Israeli small businesses. With more than 1,200 shoppers and nearly 200 volunteers, the vendors felt the full warmth of our incredible Baltimore Jewish community. Since October 7, the Israeli nonprofit group Areyvut has been organizing these markets across the U.S. to provide urgently needed financial support to vendors whose livelihoods rely on tourism. Daglanut, the Israeli flag dance, is a lower school rite of passage at our Yom Ha’Atzmaut school-wide celebration. After weeks of practice, students stepped out to perform for the whole school, bringing precision, ruach, and Jewish pride that earned cheers from every corner of campus. Even the high schoolers were impressed!

Recently, members of the BT community gathered for a meaningful Shacharit in the Epstein Chapel, then joined hundreds of others for the weekly walk to support the release of hostages from Har Sinai–Oheb Shalom. It was a reminder of what makes Baltimore’s Jewish community so strong - staying silent in the face of terror isn’t an option. Walking in the name of the hostages shows the world that we’re paying attention, we care deeply, and that we stand with Israel.

Beth Tfiloh Honor Roll 2024-2025

Around the World BT’s Model UN delegation attended the spring XXXIII YUNMUN (Yeshiva University National Model United Nations) conference in Stamford, Connecticut. This annual event brings together more than 500 students from Jewish day schools across North America for a student-run simulation of the United Nations. BT students sharpened their research, public speaking, and diplomacy skills negotiating on behalf of their assigned countries of Kuwait and South Korea. This spring, seventeen BT juniors traveled to Spain for a week of learning, exploration, and connection. They visited Madrid, Málaga, Ronda, Córdoba, Toledo, and Sevilla, touring castles, synagogues, museums, and palaces with knowledgeable Jewish guides who helped bring the country’s rich Jewish history to life. Students spent Shabbat with communities in Madrid and Málaga, shared meals with fellow Jews from around the world, and took in Spain’s stunning scenery and culture. The Natanzon/Taylor Senior Trip to Poland and Israel is a powerful capstone to the BT experience. Seniors bear witness to the devastating impact of the Holocaust in Europe and experience the exhilarating modern miracle of the State of Israel. Along the way, students and their educators deepen forge powerful bonds to their Jewish history, culture, and identity - and to each other - through shared learning, exploration, and reflection.
