Who could have ever imagined a year quite like this one? Not us – not in a million years. A day school with nearly 1,000 students, transforming into a virtual academy almost overnight. A shul with nearly 1,300 member households, attending a myriad of services and programs via Zoom.

And yet through it all, you, our loyal BT family, were there for us.

When asked to participate in online learning and programs, you were there for us. When asked to help check in with our most vulnerable BT family members, you were there for us. And when asked for the financial support needed to make our day school and shul community possible under the most unusual circumstances, you were there for us.

We are grateful to you for your unwavering support, which allowed our shul and school to not merely operate, but thrive this year, from the safety of our homes. We know that our exceptional shul and school community is built upon a foundation of unity, strength, resilience, respect, and love for one another. That foundation was laid nearly 100 years ago — as you have demonstrated this year — it has only grown stronger as the years have passed.

Be There for BT – About the Annual Campaign Beth Tfiloh is blessed with a thriving and engaged community. With close to 1,000 students enrolled in Beth Tfiloh Dahan Community School and nearly 1,300 Beth Tfiloh Congregation member families, the depth and breadth of BT’s impact on its families — and the greater Baltimore community — is extraordinary. Equally extraordinary is the generosity of Beth Tfiloh community members like you, who make our school and shul possible.

The Torah teaches us that making Jewish education financially accessible is a communal responsibility, not just a parental obligation. At BT, we count on our entire community’s charitable support of the Annual Campaign to close the budget gap. School tuition fees and congregation membership dues provide Beth Tfiloh’s financial foundation. However, BT relies on philanthropic support to truly flourish. Combined with the school and synagogue’s respective endowments funds, your Annual Campaign support and other philanthropic options strengthen that foundation.

The Annual Campaign is a Beth Tfiloh community-wide effort that raises money from all constituencies within our BT family: school parents, grandparents, alumni and their parents, faculty and staff, shul members, and other friends of BT. We ask each member of the BT family to make a gift to the Annual Campaign; in turn, the Annual Campaign supports all areas of BT: our facilities, programs, technology, and personnel.

In the spring of 2020, Beth Tfiloh was forced to shut down its building in response to COVID-19. We were uniquely positioned to transform our educational program into a virtual academy for students. Similarly, our shul quickly reinvented itself virtually by providing for the spiritual, educational, and social needs of our synagogue families. We were able to adapt to this new virtual world because of your investment in BT’s Annual Campaign.

Your gift helped us to expand our technological resources, programs, and professional development to ensure as seamless a transition as possible.

While our school, and in modified fashion our shul community, are enjoying school and services “In Real Life,” we are equipped to transition back into a fully virtual environment if necessary with as minimal disruption as possible.

This past year, support for the Annual Campaign helped us to welcome 53 new member families to our synagogue community. Ninety percent of these new members are young adults and young families, all of whom received subsidized memberships supported by the Annual Campaign. Synagogue – Expenses FY ’20 Budget

Jewish identities and build community. Last year, more than 1,000 adults and children enjoyed meaningful Shabbat and Yom Tov (holiday) experiences, including Rosh Hashanah apple picking, Chanukah bingo, and a Purim seudah.

When COVID-19 forced us to close our synagogue doors in March, our brick-and-mortar shul quickly transformed into an online community of tefillah (prayer) and Jewish engagement. We launched a daily email series featuring inspiring videos from our clergy and a calendar brimming with online learning opportunities; MeZOOMin, a weekly web series where Rabbi Wohlberg, Rabbi Posner, Rabbi Dr. Yoggev, and special guests exchanged thoughts about the weekly parshah and issues of contemporary Jewish life; and publications providing insights into Jewish holidays and daily living. Clergy and volunteers enthusiastically to participated in monthslong outreach to congregants through personal phone calls, ensuring that

The school’s investment in technology enhanced Middle School and High School students’ learning experiences, which helped them seamlessly transition into the Virtual Academy. The High School’s new STEM course, Introduction to Engineering Principles, familiarized students with engineering design, coding, and robotics skills, as well as the STEM Lab equipment.

Once in the Virtual Academy, teachers and students maintained their rigorous academic schedule, helping to ensure both stability and engagement at a most difficult time. Our unparalleled college guidance program supported our Class of 2020 seniors, who were accepted to 88 colleges and universities and 22 Israel or gap year programs, and

In its third year, the PIE initiative once again hit a record high at 85% overall BT parent participation from 502 families – an increase of 27 (3%) new families over the previous year. PIE, or “Participation is Everything,” calls on all BT families to be a “piece of the PIE” in support of the Annual Campaign, which helps to fund the daily operations of the school. The four-week campaign kicked off on November 11 starting at 44% parent participation.

In just three years of PIE’s existence, parents have increased their campaign participation by more than 50%! We are deeply thankful to you, our BT parents, for fueling our mission and being part of BT’s culture of philanthropy.

WE ARE SIMPLY ASTOUNDED BY THE GENEROSITY AND OVERWHELMING SUPPORT OF THE BETH TFILOH COMMUNITY. When it became clear that Spotlight 2020 could not happen in person, we quickly changed gears to transform our annual scholarship fundraising gala into a virtual celebration. We knew we had to raise money for the more than 50% of families who already received financial aid this year. But we also had to help those families who suddenly found themselves in need of financial aid due to the COVID economic downturn.

We truly did not know how people would react to an online scholarship fundraising event. What we did know was that we wanted the entire community to participate, to celebrate our resilience throughout this crisis as our school transformed into a Virtual Academy. We never could have imagined a night like Spotlight 2020 at Home. Simply put, your response was AMAZING!
