Rus in vrede Johan!
My hart is stukkend en leeg. Ek gaan jou baie mis. Rus in Vrede.”

BETHLEHEM: The residents of the Dihlabeng Local Municipality in the Free State are urged to use water sparingly. This follows after the municipality's water supply was placed under pressure due to ongoing Eskom load-shedding and the schedule that was implemented throughout last week and also continuing this week. According to the municipal spokesperson, Tshediso Maitse, the municipality does not have any option but to urge their customers not to use sprinklers, hose pipes, or refill swimming pools. He adds that as a result, the municipality is forced to impose water regulations as a matter of necessity. "Water supply was closed off from 18:00 to 06:00 on Wednesday 02 June 2021 last week. The restrictions will be implemented until the situation has stabilized," says Maitse. He says the municipality apologizes for any obstacle and trusts that the residents will give their cooperation during this trying time. Even if the restrictions are lifted and load shedding suspended, residents are still being asked to use water sparingly.

Brendin Horner: 'DNA results do not link suspects' PAUL ROUX: The matter between the state and two men accused of killing a young farm manager in Paul Roux, near Senekal in the Free State, has once again been postponed. The matter was postponed for the bail application of accused number 1 Sekwetje Mahlamba who is set to petition the court on new facts. This, after the state's DNA results,
does not prove Mahlamba's and accused number 2 Sekola Matlaletsa's presence on the crime scene, according to their defense lawyer. Mahlamba, who along with his co-accused faces charges of robbery, murder, and stock theft, was previously denied bail by Magistrate Deon van Rooyen and High Court Judge Celeste Reinders, owing to the state's
argument that it had a prima facie case. The case has now been postponed to 22 June where a new magistrate will preside over the bail proceedings. The duo was nabbed in October 2020, following the discovery of Horner's body which was tied to a pole near Fateng Tse Ntsho, at Paul Roux, with stab wounds to his head, shoulders, and hands.

Beauty Without Cruelty – Now you know how circus animals feel… We hated lockdown. All of us, not being allowed out of our homes at first, then with curfews. So, it is time now to consider wild animals in the circus, and what we do to animals, for our entertainment, so quickly forgotten. Given the choice, no animal would choose to live an unnatural life of captivity, forced to learn tricks and perform ondemand, no matter how well they are fed and housed. Circus animals spend months traveling in small, bare cages. Remember how you felt? Confinement is their whole life. Some will say that lions sleep most of the time. That may be true, but what of the hours they are awake? Even though captivebred, circus big cats still require the space and habitat to engage in natural behavior. A circus trailer and small exercise cage do not,
and cannot, meet even these most basic needs. There is no space for these animals to even build up to a full-speed run, climb or claw at a tree, or even get away from each other! A zoo would not be allowed to keep animals like lions and tigers in such confined quarters, yet for some reason the law allows circuses to do so. Added to this is the additional stress of being housed in unnatural social groupings in close proximity to other species of big cats. Some will claim an animal circus has educational value. We learn nothing by seeing predators in a cage, forced to do silly tricks. There are wonderful educational opportunities online, where we can learn about wildlife and be entertained by them behaving naturally. There are claims that
only 'positive reinforcement' is used to train the cats. Logic dictates that a degree of dominance is involved in training an apex predator, who would under normal circumstances not hesitate to attack a human in confined quarters. One has to question how this type of dominance is achieved over a 250kilogram predator? We love the circus, those with incredibly talented and awe-inspiring human acts. Animals do not belong in the circus. For you, it's a few minutes of entertainment and soon forgotten. You get to go home. For them, it is a life sentence. Please, support animal-free entertainment.
