OCTOBER 2013
Family matters It’s National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week We kicked off National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week with a bang at the Sweet & Savory: Battle Against Hunger on Monday night. Thank you to all who came to suppor t our event—it was a great night! Photographer Christopher Brown of Shoot From Within Photography presented his exhibit, Perseverance with Dignity. We also watched the premiere of the short documentary of the same name featuring some of the individuals portrayed here. It was refreshing to hear from Tiffany, Nick, and James at the panel discussion following the film. But the highlight of the night, at least for us foodies, was the culinary competition for best appetizer and best dessert. Thank you to all the students who participated. It was a delicious treat! The winner of “best appetizer” as chosen by attendees were the Hawaiian meatballs made by Colleen Hill and Amber Fussell of Richard Stockton College. The winner of “best dessert” as chosen by attendees was the pumpkin Blondie with white chocolate mousse made by Alexandra Zeitz of Drexel University. This dish also won the chef’s choice as determined by local celebrity chef Scott Schroeder of The South Philly Tap Room and American Sardine Bar. Special thanks to Do Good Brewing, Majestic Wines and Whole Foods Market for sponsoring the event and providing the beverages. And a big thanks to International House Philadelphia for pr oviding the venue. See you next year , folks!
