DR. MOSHE HALBERTAL is a noted Israeli Jewish philosopher, professor, and writer. He is the co-author of the Israeli Army Code of Ethics, which will be the central focus of most of his sessions.

Moshe Halbertal was born in Montevideo, Uruguay. Since 2002 he has served as a professor of Jewish Thought and Philosophy at Hebrew University; and was Gruss Professor at New York University Law School. Prior to that he served as a visiting professor at the Law Schools of Harvard, University of Pennsylvania, and Yale. Dr. Halbertal received his bachelor of arts degree and his Ph.D. from Hebrew University, with a dissertation on “Values as Interpretive Criteria in Jewish Law.” From 1988 to 1992 he was a fellow at the Society of Fellows at Harvard University. He is the author of many books, including Idolatry (co-authored with Avishai Margalit) and People of the Book: Canon, Meaning, and Authority; Concealment and Revelation: Esotericism in Jewish Tradition and Its Philosophical Implications, On Sacrifice, and Maimonides: Life and Thought; and several books published in Hebrew, including Interpretative Revolutions in the Making, and By Way of Truth: Nahmanides and the Creation of Tradition. Dr. Halbertal was the recipient of the Michael Bruno Memorial Award of the Rothschild Foundation and the Goldstein-Goren Book Award for the best book in Jewish thought in the years 1997 to 2000. In 2010, he was named a member of Israel’s Academy for the Sciences and the Humanities.
