POLITICAL SCIENCE

Bethany College’s political science program offers a broad curriculum that prepares you for graduate studies or immediate entry into the professional world. You’ll explore American politics—covering constitutional law, elections, and government institutions, as well as international politics, including foreign policy, global organizations, and authoritarian systems.

As a political science student, you’ll develop advanced research and criticalthinking skills, using both qualitative and quantitative methods to analyze pressing political questions. You’ll also refine your written and oral argumentation skills all within the mentorship-rich environment Bethany is known for.

ABOUT BETHANY COLLEGE

Bethany College, founded in 1840, is the oldest private college in West Virginia. The Bethany experience focuses on academic excellence in the area of liberal arts and prepares future leaders for a lifetime of work and a life of significance.

Our campus is located on 1,300 beautiful acres in the foothills of the Allegheny Mountains, just one mile from Pennsylvania and five miles from Ohio. Bethany is served by Pittsburgh International Airport, just 45 minutes from campus. The College is located 39 miles from downtown Pittsburgh, 22 miles from Washington, Pa., and 14 miles from Wheeling.

Student Opportunities

Political science students often gain hands-on experience through internships with national NGOs, local law firms, and other organizations. You can also explore Bethany’s innovative 3+3 law programs, completing three years at Bethany before transitioning to law school at partner institutions like Ohio Northern University, Duquesne University, or the Appalachian School of Law, earning your juris doctor (J.D.) in just three to four more years.

Clubs and Organizations

Join the Political Science Club to network, attend conferences, hear guest speakers, and connect with peers. High-achieving students may be invited to join Pi Sigma Alpha, the national political science honor society. Students are encouraged to present senior projects at the Bethany College Scholarship Symposium and submit their work to undergraduate research journals and conferences.
