PHYSICAL SCIENCE
Bethany College’s physical science program, with an option for pre-engineering, introduces you to the physicist’s understanding of the universe and its physical laws. Integrated into the program is a 3+2 dual-degree engineering track with Case Western Reserve University (CWRU).
Through this partnership, you’ll complete three years at Bethany and two at CWRU, earning both a Bachelor of Science in physical science and a Bachelor of Engineering in just five years. Coursework includes physics, chemistry, computer science, mathematics, economics, and the humanities. You can also specialize in fields like aerospace, biomedical, chemical, civil, computer, electrical, mechanical, materials science, polymer, or systems control engineering.
Alternatively, you may choose to complete your degree at Bethany and then pursue a master’s in engineering at a school of your choice.

Student Opportunities
Hands-on experiences are at the core of the program. You’ll gain laboratory experience in electronics, optics, and advanced physics, and you’ll have access to the Math Science Community Learning Center (MSCLC)—a collaborative space for studying, tutoring, and networking.
The department offers work-study, internship, and fellowship opportunities, as well as peer tutoring positions for physical science majors. Students can apply for the Gans Funds, competitive research grants established in 1950, and the NASA West Virginia Space Grant Undergraduate Affiliated Fellowships, which support undergraduate research and scholarships.
Graduate Accomplishments
Many Bethany physical science graduates continue their studies in graduate or engineering school, including Ph.D. programs in physics at West Virginia University and engineering programs at Case Western Reserve University.
Pathways & Partnerships
Bethany physical science students can expand their academic experience through a dual-degree partnership with one of the nation’s top engineering schools. This opportunity provides an accelerated route to earn two degrees and launch a career in engineering, technology, or applied science.
