COMMUNICATIONS & MEDIA ARTS

Bethany College’s communications and media arts program is rich in experience. Drawing from over 60 years of teaching and hands-on learning excellence, you will be prepared for a fast-changing career. As a communications and media arts student, you will complete intensive coursework while gaining hundreds of hours of real-world experience. From campus media courses to internships, you will be ready to hit the ground running after graduation. On campus, you can participate in traditional communications work through our online newspaper, “The Tower Online,” or pursue broadcasting with our campus radio station, BBN Online Radio.

ABOUT BETHANY COLLEGE

Bethany College, founded in 1840, is the oldest private college in West Virginia. The Bethany experience focuses on academic excellence in the area of liberal arts and prepares future leaders for a lifetime of work and a life of significance.

Our campus is located on 1,300 beautiful acres in the foothills of the Allegheny Mountains, just one mile from Pennsylvania and five miles from Ohio. Bethany is served by Pittsburgh International Airport, just 45 minutes from campus. The College is located 39 miles from downtown Pittsburgh, 22 miles from Washington, Pa., and 14 miles from Wheeling.

Student Opportunities

We want you to get the most out of your higher education experience. You will build confidence in your field by improving your writing, producing, editing, and announcing skills. You can participate in the Public Relations Club, attend conferences, and complete required off-campus internships. Internship placements are available in major markets like New York City, Pittsburgh, and Washington, D.C., providing firsthand experience in dynamic communications industries.

For a more local experience, students can work in markets such as Charleston-Huntington and Wheeling, West Virginia, or Steubenville, Ohio. Our tight-knit community ensures opportunities to connect with over a thousand Bethany communications alumni. Alumni regularly return to campus to share insights and career guidance. Some alumni have worked for NBC Universal, Netflix, CNBC, FOX Sports Detroit, FAN Sports Radio, and other major, medium, and small markets.

Notable graduates include Keith Piasecki ’98, technical director at CNN Headquarters; Sue Ryan Lister ’89, public relations director at Notre Dame University; Marie DeParis ’83, VP at SportsNet New York; and Dean Iampietro ’91, news and sports producer at WPXI-TV Pittsburgh.
