Dear Chamber Family,

Better Together – Chamber Focuses on Strategic Partnerships
john@bearingsstraight.com
The month of May is always a busy time at the Chamber. We are preparing for our largest event of the year, Business Women’s Forum, alongside our annual Golf Outing. All while wrapping up our Leadership Cumberland class and planning for yearend on June 30th. As we plan for the year ahead and continue working through our strategic plan, one of our pillars of focus is on strategic relationships that strengthen our community. In the past year, we’ve had wonderful opportunities to partner with Dickinson College students on member research and an upcoming business bus tour. We’ve worked with CAEDC on a variety of events and marketing opportunities, as well as our neighboring Chambers as we host mega mixers and multiple events together throughout the year. In addition, we held our second successful Career and Job Expo on April 4th, presented by Allen Distribution and in partnership with the Carlisle Area and Big Spring School districts. Over 800 people attended! The first two hours were dedicated to high school juniors and seniors to explore available internships and career paths. The remaining time was open to the public as a job fair. We also partnered with the Transition Assistance Program on the event, they help Service members and families move from military to civilian life. This event is just one of the many ways we partner with other organizations on workforce needs in our community. Another successful partnership is the one we have with Leadership Cumberland (LC). In a few short weeks, LC will graduate 36 fellows as part of it’s 34th cohort. This 9-month program focuses on leadership curriculum, knowledge of the County, networking, personal development, and community service. Each fellow participates in a nonprofit board internship while in the program and this year’s the class hosted its first volunteer fair to help connect alumni and community members with area nonprofits. LC is another great partnership that connects businesses with nonprofits and their surrounding communities. And, if you’re interested, LC is currently recruiting for next year’s class! These relationships not only reflect our values of community, partnership, and integrity but also our commitment to make sure all our members have the opportunity to connect, engage, and thrive.
