The groundhog did not see his shadow and we could not be more excited about an early Spring. It is our favorite season as it brings more sunshine, warmer weather, and some of our biggest events. We are looking forward to our upcoming Leadership Cumberland Graduation, Business Women’s Forum, and our Golf Outing at the Carlisle Country Club.
Spring also brings our second annual Career and Job Expo at the Carlisle Expo Center on Thursday, April 4th from 12:30 – 5:00 pm, presented by Allen Distribution. After the success of last year’s event, we are happy to bring it back with new partnerships and increased participation.
We are happy to announce that we will be partnering with CAEDC (Cumberland Area Economic Development Corporation) on the event that will bring increased awareness to the County through their Alliance members and marketing channels. We will also be partnering with the Transition Assistance Program, a group that promotes jobs to over 400 local veterans and military family members.
In addition to trying to pair job seekers with our member businesses for employment opportunities, we are looking forward to once again hosting a Career Expo with the Carlisle Area and Big Spring School Districts. The event’s first two hours will be restricted to studentsonly, as they explore different careers, internships/apprenticeships, and job opportunities with our members in attendance. (Hurry! Sponsorships and booths are still available but filling quickly.)
We are also excited to announce the workforce videos you viewed at our Annual Meeting with UPMC and The Tuckey Companies have been successfully implemented in our partner school districts. High school and middle school students have had the opportunity to view the videos and explore the many career opportunities available. Informational flyers were also created for parents and students to inform them of the level of education needed and salary ranges for the jobs presented in the videos as well as many others. (Scan the QR code below to view the workforce videos). Our hope is to create a library of comparable videos for our school districts’ use to educate students, parents, and faculty about the career opportunities in the greater Carlisle area.
Thank you to the members who participate on our Business in Education committee, take high school interns, volunteer to speak and review resumes, and participate in our Career and Job Expo. We are committed to bringing awareness and solutions to the workforce issues facing our community and we could not do it without you.
Yours in Service,
P.S. We are experimenting with a format that will bring more value and would love to know what you think!
After a few years of hiatus, mainly due to the pandemic, the State of the County was held at the Comfort Suites Downtown in Carlisle on February 7th. All three of the County Commissioners were present to discuss the County’s budget, human services that they provide, as well as challenges that are seen for the future.
This sold out event was very informative, and we thank the Commissioners for their insights and willingness to speak on various issues. The Chamber would like to thank presenting sponsor HRG, Inc. for their continued support. We would also like to thank Spirit Sound & Light for their fantastic sound system that made the panel discussion flawless.

Business Women’s Forum is celebrating its 30th anniversary as being the largest one-day women’s event in Central Pennsylvania on May 15, 2024. The event has grown over the years and has found a great home at Messiah University’s High Center.
Throughout the years we’ve had great keynote speakers that have spoken on a variety of topics. This year, we are pleased to have Leigh Hurst from Feel Your Boobies talking about “What if today is YOUR day?”
Alongside the keynote speaker, we also have 8 amazing breakout sessions planned with local professional women that focus on either personal or professional growth. Each topic chosen by our surveys of what our attendees want to see in regards to programming.
The event also features more than 40 vendor booths of local businesses that are on hand to talk more about their products or services.
It’s a day of inspiration, networking, growth, and focusing on what’s important to today’s professional woman. We hope to see you there. Click on the QR code below to get more details about the event.
