Dear Bethany community and friends... During a time of unusual societal change and uncertainty, we are grateful for our many blessings and for the generosity of the Bethany community. Over the past year, your gifts and prayers supported us in our work preparing students to participate in God’s work in the world. With an eye towards the big picture and more distant future, Bethany’s board of trustees has also provided key support and stability for our school. In 2019-20, the board helped us transition from operation as a parochial school towards an independent school model. Working with a consultant, we adopted best practices for independent school boards. As part of that process, we created a governance covenant for the board and senior administrative leadership team to work together in advancing the mission of the school. With input from parents, faculty, and community members, we finalized our 2020-25 strategic plan and adopted our new mission, vision, and core values. In 2020-21 we completed our first year of the strategic plan’s implementation. Some highlights from our work on the plan: • We added a third grade in 2021-22 and are recruiting for grades 1 and 2 for next fall. • We are looking at student-centered scheduling and curriculum, with a faculty-administrator joint committee leading that process. • We added a position, expanding the advancement office to better serve our alumni and build relationships that strengthen Bethany’s future. • We began a comprehensive marketing campaign to share our new mission and taglines as we work on increasing enrollment. • Student well-being is a constant priority for us, and this year we saw two projects come to fruition. Our cafeteria’s farm-to-school program continued to flourish with more local and fresh options, and new chickens on campus laying eggs. The Great Strides campaign reached completion with the construction of our new outdoor athletic complex to better serve our students with exercise and play. • The board and leadership team are evaluating our current facility and master plan in light of anticipated growth, including a younger student population and determining how our facilities can more fully support student learning objectives. Bethany has a bright future due to the collaboration of the board of trustees, senior administrative leadership team, and the entire Bethany community embracing our mission to prepare students to participate in God’s work in the world. We invite you to look for opportunities to participate with the Bethany community as we live into our vision. Your presence and words of encouragement mean so much to our teachers and students.
