Bulls of

bixler ranch

We AI and flush quite a few cows to our own bulls. This isn’t because we believe these bulls are superior to the top AI sires in the industry. In a world where there are countless options to breed your cows, the most costly decision is inconsistency in the type and quality of your calf crop.

Our bulls are bred with consistency in mind. They’re culled if consistency isn’t proven in their calf crop. From when we selected how to breed that AI sire's mother to when he sired his first calf crop that is old enough to market, there is usually four years of planning that has taken place. In many of these cases we knew how his sire breeds, we know what the calves look like out of his mother, we’ve calved and watched the bull develop his whole life, and after multiple generations of this practice it creates significant consistency in the traits that these bulls breed.

That is why these bulls have been so successful for us and we believe they can be successful in your operation as well.

Turning Point has been exactly what his name implies for our Simmental program. This bull sires more bone, mass, body capacity, and hair than any Simmental bull we have ever used. These cattle are incredibly loose structured and his first daughters in production have had beautiful udders. Turning Point's dam is the phenomenal Thompson Donor 453 who was a high seller in Rob Vanhove's cow sale. The genetics behind Turning Point have passed the inspection of some of the most respected cattlemen in the industry and his offspring are garnering the attention of our most astute buyers

Turn Key was one of the first calves born out of Turning Point and we've been excited about him from the beginning. As a calf he was stouter and bigger centered than any of his peers and as he matured he came to the forefront as one of the most attractive profling bulls. His offspring exhibit all of these desirable characteristics to different degrees. Turn Key is as versatile of a sire as we could ask for. He has produced some of our most sought after bulls, his daughters fill up the keeper pen for replacement females, he has produced show steers, and multiple successful show heifers. Turn Key has been used successfully on the best cows to keep them sound structured, great bodied, hairy, and good looking as well as on commercial cows to make stout, easy keeping replacement bulls and females.

The Mayor sets the standard for the type of cattle we're trying to produce. This bull is wide bodied, easy fleshing, and packed with muscle. He is stout boned, clean jointed, and flawless in his movement. His sire was one of the high selling bulls in the Cream of the Crop sale purchased by Ronnie Glover and he has done a tremendous job for us over multiple calf crops. His grandmother was the Supreme Champion Female at the Oklahoma Youth Expo. Use The Mayor to moderate size in your cows, increase efficiency, and put a tremendous body on them. This is one of the stoutest, best built 3/4 Angus bulls you will find anywhere!

We don't have a picture of 609 but take a look at these sons all out of different cows and you'll know exactly how he is going to breed. We have not found a bull in the Red Angus breed that puts a body on them like this while keeping them incredibly attractive through their head and neck as 609 does. Use this bull on your flatter, more common type cows and transform your calf crop in 1 generation. He is as predictable as any sire we have used in the Red Angus breed and each year we wish we had more calves sired by 609.

This is where our registered Red Angus program started. 132 is a result of a highly successful embryo purchase out of the famed Red Soo Line Countess 6409 cow that resulted in many full sibs being born in 2011, with some still in production. Countess 6409 was the high selling female in the Soo Line dispersal purchased by Wildcat Creek Ranch and later owned by Rust Mountain View and Blair.Ag. 132 is the safest calving ease sire we have ever used and that is why we continue to AI him to our first calf heifers 13 years later. This bull has been tested on the stoutest crossbred females you could find and he consistently puts live, unassisted calves on the ground at a higher percentage than any of the top Red Angus calving ease sires we have utilized.

You know our affinity for 132 as a calving ease sire and 5L Independence was right behind him. 6009 is bred as well as we could make a calving ease sire. We not only AI to 6009 but he also cleans up EVERY colored female we breed, regardless of their breed composition. He gets tested on the toughest calvers every year and does a tremendous job. Phenotypically he is one of the superior bulls you will find that is safe to use on crossbred heifers of any breed.

The first calves will be hitting the ground in the spring of 2024 and we're anxious to see the results from possibly the most complete Red Angus bull we have ever produced. This bull is rare in that he is so balanced and well built everywhere, but not too extreme in any aspect of his makeup that you have to protect him when making breeding decisions. Many of the best bulls in the breed are bold and have outlier pieces that keep you from being able to breed them to your most extreme cows. We believe Strawberry Soda is the solution for purebred and crossbred cows to produce elite stock consistently across your cowherd while being able to breed him to your top donor cows without concern. This bull is backed by the most influential cow in our Red Angus herd, Donor 42B.

Red Velvet is the densest boned, biggest hipped Red Angus bull we have ever seen in a hairy, cocky, choke necked package. This 609 son is as unique as they make them in this breed. Reports on his first calves hitting the ground are exactly as we had hoped. This is the type of bull that will change how Red Angus breeders look at 48 hour old calves when they see the power and style that he breeds. Use on larger framed, flatter made cows

If you like them dark red, hairy, stout built and sound structured then you have found your bull. This was one of the top bulls from the 2022 sale and he has been used heavily by the owners since. The Red Angus breed has not fully utlized the advantages of the 7/8 cattle being able to show as purebred. This is predominantly because breeders haven't focused on crossbreeding in this breed, but Paint It Red takes the multi-generation work away from you to offer a potential 7/8 calf with the features you can't find in a purebred. In his first calf crops, Paint It Red has produced top bulls, potential show heifers, crossbred steers, and even a 7/8 Red Angus steer that is holding his own against the crossbreds in TX. This bull should be considered by the breeders chasing % Red Angus cattle, purebred breeders, and club calf breeders. The hair, body, and structure this bull passes on is 2nd to none in this breed.

SEMEN: $50/STRAW

Talk about a bull that is as hog backed and huge hipped as they come while having a neck and presence that commands your attention! This bull is even stouter than his sire, 609. His top and hip are dead level and he’s bold in his forerib. If you’ve followed our program, the El Dorado Donor 42B has produced our top bulls nearly every year. She is the mother of 609 where the genetic potency keeps coming from and also the mother of our next generation of donor females. We believe this bull can take a nice cow and turn her offspring into next level revenue generators more so than almost any Red Angus bull we have ever raised.

This bull is explosive muscled, huge centered, tracks like a cat, and has a little white on his face to offer you the opportunity to produce those sought after red baldy cattle. His grandmother is our Donor 702 who is also the mother of the elite show heifer pictured here, among many others. His great grandmother is none other than the El Dorado Donor 42B. We talk a lot about being confident in using our own bulls and this bull would be the 3rd consecutive generation in his pedigree of bulls raised at Bixler Ranch. To take this one step further, Lot 17 has a Purebred Red Angus half sister that may be the best Red Angus female we have ever raised.

This is the type of bull that we strive to produce when making nearly all of our breeding decisions. This bull is built very similar to The Mayor. Both bulls are easy fleshing, bold centered, belly dragging wagons. Main Street is perfect hipped which hinges into a topline that balances the right amount of strength and relaxation. He’s not wild necked like some bulls but his neck sits high in his shoulder, he’s clean in his throat latch, and neat headed. When Main Street moves, he drives forward and doesn’t waddle outside of his skeleton like many big middled bulls. Our cattle must be efficient to be profitable and we want an entire herd of efficient cattle built like this bull.

132 is the go to for our colored first calf heifers and 702 is his equivalent to the black heifers. He is the easiest calving Angus sire we have used and the calves get up quick with vigor. He has also been tested on the stoutest crossbred females with consistent success. 702 daughters are doing well in production and you can see the quality of sons he has produced. This is the best option we can suggest for an Angus bull to put live, active calves on the ground out of first calf heifers.

We don’t use many Purebred Charolais sires, but we used this one. In just 2 months time, notice the difference in power, body, and maturity that this bull generated from his pictures. The center cavity of this bull is enormous, his hip is huge, his pins are wide, and his structure is impeccable. His sire was the Grand Champion bull at Denver and a top tier EPD sire in the breed as well. This bull makes an asset for purebred and crossbred females alike.

This is the best built breeding bull this operation has produced. Paint them all the same color and this guy stands out like a man among children. He’s gigantic hipped, whale bellied, huge backed, cocky headed, and glides around like he weighs less than a feather. He is 50% Red Angus out of a Purebred Red Angus sire. On red cows, you’ll have a decent amount of calves that are Red Angus colored. Out of black cows, you’ll also have a decent amount of calves that are black. For those of you that don’t care about color, just breed him to all of your cows. Regardless of what facet of the beef industry you’re in, the world needs more cattle built like this.

Comanche has solidified himself as one of our main sires for colored females. He breeds with tremendous consistency, unparalleled by many of the top red and white AI sires. He has produced shorthorn, hereford, black, red, and charolais colored cattle. They are consistently sound structured, square hipped, and built to slick shear with a good hair coat. His sire, Papa Smurf is an impressive Battle Cry son we raised that was sold with Skinner Cattle, Kris Black and then placed by good friend, Garrett Holder. His mother was a full sister to many steers that were branded at Texas majors. This is a great sire option for TH carrying females.

Power Strip is one of the more intriguing bulls we have raised. He’s backed by the 11 year old Donor 330 who has been like a slot machine lately when mated to club calf bulls. She raised Lot 58 from the 2022 sale along with a full sister that was campaigned successfully. She produced a really stout Red Rocky calf that was shown by the Holder family in Texas. For a club calf bred bull, we love how flexible and soft he is at the ground. His muscle shape is undeniable and he offers a very easy keeping build. He’s cocky necked and hits you right from every angle. The thing that consistently gets overlooked in the club calf industry is the maternal aspect of these sires and Power Strip could pass on some of the best maternal traits in the industry. His mother is a great milker consistently raising a calf in the best condition of any that season. She has great feet and her structure after 11 years would make you guess she’s a 5 year old cow. We began to AI and flush cows to him when he was a yearling and his first calves will be hitting the ground in the spring of 2024.
