Trends in Flooring for 2022
Written by Jim Casar Expert Contributor of Carpet Warehouse
For years now, carpet has been a no-go when it comes to stylish floor décor. While tile, laminate and wood flooring aren’t going away anytime soon, carpet is making a strong comeback in stylish décor, much to the surprise of designers everywhere.
Other than ease of upkeep and a comfy feeling under your feet, carpet is also a fabulous way of introducing color or pattern into a room design or even an entire home. Unlike previous design trends and routines, floors are no longer an afterthought. In fact, in many design houses and designer boards, the entire room is styled from the floor up.
Trends in flooring for 2022 include mixing bright, bold and contrasting colors to create an unmistakable vibrance from the floor up. As a stark contrast, the other end of the scale features earthy, organic, natural carpeting that introduces a calming landscape into a room design.

Carpet actually offers so much more variety of colors and patterns, from fiery reds, to calming blues, add in some geometric designs and intricate patterns, and you have a solid base from which to start a room design.
When you consider combining flooring choices that make a bold and brand-new statement, the resurgence in popularity of carpeting versus people’s long-standing love affair with hard-surface flooring is understandable because carpeting offers homeowners and designers more than twice the options.
A smart and sensible trend that is showing up in all types of areas and rooms — but certainly in finished basements, home gyms and children’s play areas — is carpet tile. One paramount advantage of carpet tile is that it’s modular and easily replaceable.
In fact, many styles come with waterproof options. Families with young children, pets or high traffic/highly stainable areas find the ease of just lifting and replacing damaged or stained tiles almost miraculous. Those old days of needing to replace the entire floor are over.
Why carpeting is making such a strong comeback may have to do with the new multipurpose rooms we’ve had to create, along with the even stronger need for comfort and multitasking in these rooms. Homeowners want to feel even cozier when spending 24/7 in their homes, and so carpet is by far the more sumptuous choice, with options like luxury deep-pile carpets in lush jewel tones that say more than just comfort: They say lavish opulence, and who doesn’t want that?
