When selecting car insurance for your vehicle, the option of collision coverage can be glossed over when in reality it is one of the most valuable elements of a car insurance coverage plan.

You have to have liability, but when it comes to collision, the coverage that covers your car, that’s an option. On older cars, it’s the option that too many people drop. The problem is that an old car still has a value of $2,000 or $3,000. If you get in an accident and it’s not entirely the other driver’s fault, your insurance company doesn’t know you. Towing fees from an accident are very different than regular towing fees. Normal towing is about $40 or $50. But from an accident they become $125 for towing, $50 a day for storage, clean up costs an additional $25 and admin fees are $25. Have an accident on Friday, and by Monday your bill is already $375. Without collision, you’re responsible for the bill. And you get nothing for your smashed up car. Collision coverage, for the most part, is about $100 to $200 a year.

With the right insurance, your company will pay you for the value of your car, as well as the towing bill. Now you have a down payment for a new car and no hassle with the towing bill. It just doesn’t make sense to throw away thousands of dollars over just a few hundred a year.
