The December Sproul Lanes Student of the Month is Riley Hurda, a Senior at The Episcopal Academy! Riley received a Certificate of Achievement, and looks forward to enjoying her award: a “Pizza Bowl” party courtesy of Sproul Lanes, our Sponsor of this program.
Riley is “organized, reliable and kind, and is respected by her peers and teachers for her consistent and gracious interest in others.” Actively involved in her school’s Community Service Corps (CSC) program since 9th grade, Riley has consistently volunteered to help with many outreach programs including two that serve Philadelphia communities. She also initiated and has led a Pen Pal program with a school in north Philly, which has also benefited by receiving art supplies donated as a result of Riley’s leadership. And this is her second year serving on CSC’s Executive Leadership Board, which plans service programming for the school community.
Also since 9th grade, Riley has served as a member of three Varsity sports teams: Water Polo, Swimming and Softball. This year, as Captain for the Varsity Swimming and Softball teams, she will plan and lead several team-bonding activities and events. At graduation, Riley will have received 12 well-deserved Varsity letters!

As a Junior and Senior, Riley has worked a few days each week for Episcopal Academy Aquatic Club, teaching children ages 4-8 how to swim. She also serves on EA’s Key Club, which has given her many opportunities to serve as a “school ambassador” by helping with admissions at events and also serving on panel discussions for prospective parents and students. Riley also participates in her school’s Spanish Club and Model UN, and she is Co-President of Team Up: Let's Talk, a group that facilitates opportunities for teens and their parents to discuss difficult topics.
Riley has applied to several colleges, and plans a career in Nursing, to combine her love of science and medicine with her steadfast interest in service to others.
