t’s Saturday night, and you need a falafel. You just moved to town, and you need recommendations for a plumber, and fast. It’s two months before your best friend’s wedding, and you need to get back in the gym — yesterday. Where do you eat? Who do you call? Which gym do you hit? We hear you. We see you. And, once again, we’ve put the answers to these very important questions at your finge tips. Decided by popular vote, they make up our 2019 Best of the Pines awards. The Pilot’s annual Best of the Pines contest has grown and evolved right along with our supportive small business community. This year we added more categories, simplified the online ballo , and made it easier for businesses to encourage their fans to vote. In turn, the community made this year one for the record books. The summer-long campaign began with a Kickoff arty and Voter’s Rally in May. Write-in nominations were open for four weeks, and the top eight nominees in 166 categories made it on the ballot in June. After four weeks of voting, we were blown away by over 18,000 voters and a total of more than 227,000 votes cast across all categories. The Pilot, a small, locally owned business itself, thanks you for your engagement in our favorite contest of the year. This magazine (a new format) puts the final stamp on our 2019 eaders’ choice season. But you can bet we’re already working hard behind the scenes to improve the contest for 2020. Over the next year, we hope you are able to use this magazine to find a new pla e to eat, a service provider to help you out in a pinch, and ways to celebrate your favorite places, events, teachers, and first esponders.
