Welcome to the Neighborhood

One of the most desirable, true-to-form Austin neighborhoods is Zilker. Many historic homes designed by A.D. Stenger stand among modern builds in an area that is within walking distance of so much. Developed from 35 acres of land owned by Andrew Jackson Zilker after it was deeded to Austin in 1918, Zilker has become a well-known, much-loved area of Austin.

Amenities

Amenities in the Zilker neighborhood include Butler Shores at Town Lake Park, Lady Bird Lake, and Barton Springs Pool for funfilled days in the sun. Add to your knowledge of culture by visiting the Zilker Botanical Garden or the Umlauf Sculpture Garden.

The neighborhood also offers easy access to restaurants, clubs, and music venues for those who enjoy a little night life. Though there are plentiful opportunities for fun and relaxation in the neighborhood, Zilker is only 4.5 miles from downtown, making it a highly sought-after neighborhood in which to live.

Today Zilker offers a mix of historic homes, bungalows, and trendy new apartments. Known to be an eclectic part of town, Zilker welcomes everyone as it is home to families, singles, professors, hippies, students, artists, and musicians.

School Districts

Austin Independent School District serves children living in the Zilker area. Elementary schools include Barton Hills, Pease, and Zilker Elementary Schools. Many children attend O. Henry Middle School, Fulmore Middle School, or Richards School for Young Women Leaders. High schools include Austin High School and the Liberal Arts and Science Academy (LASA.)

Hiking & Activities

Zilker Park is a popular Austin park and the site of Austin City Limits Music Festival as well as the Holiday Trail of Lights and the Austin Kite Festival. Acres of open fields as well as a large playground area host kids of all ages any day of the week. Other amenities in the area are only steps away including some of Austin’s most popular restaurants and food trucks on Barton Springs Road.
