Welcome to the Neighborhood

Sunset Valley is a small city and enclave surrounded by the city of Austin on all sides. Development began in the 1950s for this once wooded valley. Nestled between Westgate Lane and Brodie Lane along Jones Road, Sunset Valley is a tiny city of less than 600 residents that encompasses about one square mile of land. It was officially established as a town in 1954 and has continued to develop over time to include some commercial development.

Amenities

South of downtown Austin, Sunset Valley offers older ranch style homes as well as newer, modern homes. Residents enjoy a close-knit community with plenty of trails and parks to enjoy giving a rural, small town feel, with a city vibe just outside its perimeter.

At the heart of Sunset Valley, just off Highway 290, is the Toney Burger Activity Center where football enthusiasts enjoy a little Friday Night Lights. Many return to the enormous parking lot for produce, art, and coffee at the weekly Farmers’ Market set up on Saturday mornings.

Plenty of restaurants and shopping opportunities exist in Sunset Valley on both sides of Brodie Lane, while Arbor Trails offers even more just a few minutes away.

Hiking & Activities

Though it’s considered a city, plenty of green space and the spotting of wildlife reminds residents and visitors that the Texas Hill Country is not too far. A nearby outdoor hotspot is the Indian Grass Prairie Preserve which offers beautifully maintained walking trails and a view of the Williamson Creek watershed conservation area. Additionally, check out the Gaines Creek Greenbelt on the north side of Sunset Valley which connects to the Barton Creek Greenbelt for a gorgeous, relaxing outdoor adventure.
