South Lamar is an area in south Austin located between TX-71/Ben White Blvd. and Westgate Lane to the south and W. Oltorf Lane to the north, just west of the Galindo neighborhood. With a mix of charming single-family homes, condominiums, duplexes, and apartment complexes, South Lamar has something that fits every need.

Children in the South Lamar area attend schools in the Austin Independent School District and include Joslin, Zilker or Galindo Elementary Schools, Fulmore, O Henry, or Covington Middle Schools, and Austin, Travis, or Crockett High Schools.

There are a variety of homes in Steiner Ranch including smaller garden homes as well as estate homes resting on multiple acres with prices ranging between $450,000 and $6 million. Both old and new homes are available and offer 3,000 square feet of living space on average.

Steiner Ranch is named for T. C. “Buck” Steiner, founder of the Steiner Rodeo Company and member of the National Cowboy Hall of Fame. Once credited with a talent for backward bull riding, followed by a career in saddle and boot making, Steiner’s successes allowed him to own 5600 acres of land.

Over 4500 acres of the ranch became the upscale, master-planned community, Steiner Ranch, developed by Taylor Woodrow in 2004. Located between Lake Austin and Lake Travis, on RR 620, the area has been referred to as “The Land Between the Lakes,” offering residents resort -type living.

Location School Districts

Just a short drive from Steiner Ranch are other nearby amenities such as Lake Austin Spa, Mansfield Dam, Four Points Shopping Center, The Oasis, and Steiner Ranch Steakhouse as well as many other shopping, retail, and dining opportunities. Steiner Ranch is about 40 minutes from downtown Austin, but with the many wonderful locations within reach, many residents enjoy staying close to home.

Children living in Steiner Ranch are served by Leander Independent School District where there are four elementary schools: Steiner Ranch Elementary, River Ridge Elementary, River Place Elementary, and Laura Welch Bush Elementary. Middle schools include Four Points Middle School and Canyon Ridge Middle School which feed into Vandegrift High School.
