Dear Friends, Welcome to the 2023 Best Buddies Champion of the Year: Recipe for Inclusion Gala. Your presence here tonight warms our hearts, and we’re truly delighted that you’ve joined us.

Best Buddies revolves around the spirit of friendship, and this evening comes to life thanks to the unwavering support of our incredible friends in this room.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our corporate sponsors, our restaurant sponsors, and the sensational Roses n’ Rust band, all of whom have played an instrumental role in making tonight a truly special occasion. Together, we aim to surpass last year’s record by reaching a goal of $150,000 raised for Best Buddies in Maryland.

Best Buddies stands for creating opportunities: one-to-one friendships, integrated employment, leadership development, and fostering inclusive living for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).

Best Buddies creates meaningful friendships, empowers individuals with successful careers, promotes independent living, hones public speaking, self-advocacy, and communication skills, all while fostering a sense of belonging in society. Your donation is the key ingredient that makes this recipe possible.

$5,000 A middle school, high school, or college chapter for a year.

The cost of the room and food to host 250+ Best Buddies members to the statewide Buddy Ball. $2,500 10 jobs participants support and training for a year. $1,000 The cost to send a Buddy to the Leadership Conference (Registration and Air).

A tent at the Friendship Walk.

DJ or Photo Booth for a statewide Best Buddies event. $500 Bus to transport a school chapter to the Friendship Walk or Buddy Ball.

Registration for a Buddy to attend the Leadership Conference.

The cost of a flight to send a student leader to the Leadership Conference in Indiana. $350 Citizens/Ambassador bowling party.

The cost of buying t-shirts for a school chapter. $250 The cost to send 4 buddies to the Buddy Ball.

Transportation for 2 Ambassadors to give public speeches.

The cost of a pizza party for a school chapter.

Congrats to our 2022 Champion of the Year:

Julia Goldsmith Julia’s journey with Best Buddies began a few years ago when her daughter, Amber Joy, took part in the Best Buddies Champion of the Year event (formerly Tastebuds) as a Sous Chef with Wicked Sisters. It was a night filled with incredible experiences that led to an exciting opportunity for Amber Joy, as she was offered a position with Wicked Sisters. This marked the start of her involvement with Best Buddies’ Jobs and Citizens Program, where she was paired with several remarkable peer friends, enriching her life. Best Buddies has a profound impact on Julia’s family, and she is truly passionate about giving back. In 2022, Julia raised an impressive $11,400 for Best Buddies in Maryland as the Champion of the Year winner. Her dedication and commitment to the mission of Best Buddies are nothing short of inspiring. We celebrate Julia Goldsmith as a shining example of the positive change that Best Buddies can bring to people’s lives.
