Social Story

On Friday, October 25th, I am going to attend the Best

Buddies Gala at Brick South

Everyone will be dressed up at the Gala! I know I can wear whatever makes me feel the most comfortable.

When I arrive, I will check in at the check-in table to find out the assigned spot where I will be sitting.

There will be a lot of people at the Gala! I will know some people and will meet a lot of new people. Everyone is there to celebrate inclusion.

Some parts of the Gala might be noisy, especially the live auction. During the live auction, a person called an auctioneer will be talking fast and loud. People will be shouting out bids, waving glow sticks, and blowing whistles.

The loud noises might be overwhelming.That is ok.There are many things I can use to help if I feel overwhelmed.

At the check-in table, there will be earplugs and sensory bags which contain headphones, fidgets, and feelings cards. I can ask someone for these tools if I need them!

Quiet Room

There will also be a quiet space that I can go to whenever I want.A sandwich board will point me in the direction of the quiet room.

One part of the Gala will be all about sitting quietly and listening.This is when there will be speakers, videos, and performances. I will be respectful to these presenters by listening to them quietly.

When it is time to eat, there will be a food buffet.

I will wait in line and people will serve me the food I want. If I need help or am uncomfortable waiting in line, there will be staff there to help get me food.

At the end of the night, there will be a dance party with a DJ! I can dance with others on the dance floor or watch if I want to.

The Gala goes from 6:00pm to 11:00pm. I know that I can leave whenever I want to before 11:00pm.
