When Meredith Connor stepped forward as a Champion of the Year candidate in 2024, she did so with a purpose rooted deeply in love, courage, and a hope-filled vision for the future. After receiving her daughter Avery’s Down syndrome diagnosis at birth, Meredith and her family found themselves navigating a world that often wasn’t built with individuals with disabilities in mind. The fear and uncertainty of those early days evolved into determination to ensure that Avery, and others like her, would grow up in a community where they are included, valued, and fully supported

Meredith saw Best Buddies as a powerful answer to that hope. With the organization newly establishing a presence in South Carolina, she recognized an opportunity to help shape a more inclusive future not only for Avery, but for students across Spartanburg and the entire state.
Meredith raised over $178,000 and earned the title of 2024 Champion of the Year. Tonight, we celebrate her leadership, her heart, and her belief in a better, more inclusive tomorrow for every family walking a journey like hers.
