Friends of ours recently explained that instead of sending Christmas cards this year, they would be making a donation to a local charity. It’s a great idea and so easy to do.

Season’s Greetings can be sent electronically to those who are able to receive such, and the money saved on cards and postage will be gratefully received by a local group such as the wonderful Willen Hospice or the essential Warwickshire & Northamptonshire Air Ambulance.

Children who write to Santa by Friday 14th December should get a reply before Christmas but write early to be sure of receiving a special letter.

Letters can be sent to Santa/Father Christmas, Santa’s Grotto, Reindeerland, SAN TA1. In the letter you must include the child’s name and address and do remember to attach a stamp to the envelope.

December is here and above all the hustle and bustle there is an air of expectation seeping into our consciousness. Families prepare for duty filled visits from friends, family and returning offspring. All preparations are heading towards the 25th day. The day we celebrate Christmas. The one day of the year when we forget our differences and pull together giving gifts as a loving gesture of friendship and care.

But do we take enough time to really think about what this special day is? We all know what it’s like, you draw up a magical present list – check it twice and then make decisions and go out and about scouting for that perfect gift.

However, for us green-fingered gardeners, there’s probably simply too much choice and variety!

So, that begs the question, is there a perfect gift which will keep all gardeners happy, a universal must-have present? Well, of course not, unless you opt for the easy way out, a perfectly respectable Garden Gift Voucher which may save the day!

Setting aside more conventional ways of classification, she urges the gardener to choose what they grow according to plant personalities, asserting that personality traits are as valuable as height, habit and flower colour when planning your planting.

Your cut tree will require to be watered every day and may drink anything between 1.125 4.5-litre (2 pints to a gallon) of water a day. Essentially, do not allow the tree to dry out.

Avoid placing the tree near an open fire, radiators, warm lighting or any direct heat source, as it will dry out with the potential effect of causing needle drop or drooping branches. In some cases even watering your tree will not stop this happening.
