....March – the start of Spring; under the soil, in every branch and twig, in farmers’ fields, in sheds and barns – new life is stirring.

After the cold, unyielding winter, these precious shoots, young leaves unfurling, springy-legged lambs gambolling in the fields, remind us that nature’s year is beginning again.

The start of British Summer Time, at the end of the month, may deprive us of a little sleep, but the extra hour’s light each evening is such a worthwhile trade; enabling country walks, gardening, a return to hobbies and pastimes shelved due to inclement weather and the hypnotic draw of the crackling fire and comfy sofa.

With much to rejoice in and warmer weather yet to come, now is a great time to be a little adventurous – whether trying a new sport or booking a holiday – make March the start of your new beginning, too!

Family Mediation for Separating Couples

Before making an application to Court, separating couples with children are required by law to try to resolve their differences through Mediation. Parents will, even if they are no longer a couple, continue to be mother and father to their child and need, so far as possible, to find a way of communicating with one another for that child’s benefit.

Mediation is a tried and tested means of promoting communication between parties who, for whatever reason, have difficulties in communicating directly and agree to use the services of a trained, neutral third party to help them build a dialogue.

Mediators are impartial and help couples to talk through their issues and consider all options

available to them, then come to a consensus that can benefit both parents and children without the pressure and expense of Court proceedings.

Couples can consult their own solicitor to take advice at any stage during Mediation, if necessary.

At the end of the mediation process, a document can be drafted detailing the proposals that have been agreed.

It can be really hard to decide which estate agent to choose when selling your home.

To help, I've put together 8 must have' ingredients to give your home the very best opportunity of selling fast for the best price.

Here goes...

1. You need a local agent with a branch manager you can trust, who is themselves a local (like me!). They need to know the area and can give expert local advice. It also helps them strike up rapport with your buyers.

2. You want somebody to give you the correct valuation and not inflate the price and give you unrealistic expectations to trick you into signing up (and locking you into a long contract...)

3. There should be one point of contact from beginning to end.

So the same person who values your house should also conduct the viewings and always be on hand to give you feedback.

And that includes giving you their mobile phone number so you can call for an update at any time 4. Accompanied viewings. The truth is that you more than DOUBLE your chances of a sale by having accompanied viewings.

Go without and your agent is shooting you in the foot.

5. Open 24/7 for telephone enquiries to book viewings or make offers.

People look for houses at the weekends or on evenings when most agents are shut!

Your agent needs to be available when your buyers are ready and waiting to express their interest.

6. Allow buyers to book their own viewings and make offers online 24/7.

7. They must have exposure on all the major portals. So either Rightmove or Zoopla alone won't cut it. They need to list on Primelocation as well to showcase your home to the maximum audience.

8. Their boards must stand out.

There are so many houses for sale and agents boring boards all look the same. Boards are your property's shop window.

They need to stand out so that everybody notices them!

More attention = more viewers. It's a no brainer... Â With all of these techniques deployed, you'll be giving your home the very best chance of a fast sale and achieving the best

Brackley European Association Members of the Brackley European Association enjoying their annual dinner on Saturday 10th January in the Extension Hall at St Peter’s Church. This was a great start to 2015 which promises to be an important year for members of the Association as in September, they celebrate the 40th anniversary of the twinning of Brackley with Montabaur in Germany. There will be a weekend of celebrations with our German guests with a formal lunch in the Town Hall which will be attended by the Lord Lieutenant, the High Sherriff, the Town Mayor and other dignitaries of the town.

The Association has been planning for this occasion for some time but fundraising will continue this year as the Association is largely self funded with only a small grant from the Town Council to support the twinning activities which the Association undertake on the town’s behalf.

The first of these will be a Games evening on February 26th; an opportunity to relive the games of your youth – Ludo, Snakes and Ladders,

Shove Halfpenny to name but a few – followed by a Bistro and Quiz evening on 26th March. So if you fancy a meal and a bit of fun, do come and join us.

The Association meet in the Town Hall at 8.00pm on the last Thursday of every month and everyone is very welcome to join us.

Brackley’s see-saw season looks set to continue the suspense for supporters right to the end.

After a poor run of results in December, Town won three games to lift themselves closer to midtable security before hitting another losing streak that plunged the Saints into the dog-fight around the lower reaches of the league table.

Consecutive defeats by Lowestoft and Barrow typified the problems as a lead was lost in both games and not even the draw could be salvaged.

A 2-0 advantage was turned into a 2-3 defeat against the Trawler Boys at St James Park, the visitors’ goals coming in the final 20 minutes.

Away at league pace-setters Barrow the following Saturday Saints took a surprise lead through a wonder-goal by Eddie Odhiambo, striking the perfect volley from 15 yards to leave the keeper with no chance. But the lead lasted less than 2 minutes as Barrow hit back before notching twice more to win comfortably.

Th e Garde n i n M arc h March must be the most exciting month of the gardening year with spring kicking off, and leaving winter behind, we hope! Winter was fairly mild although the north had some more interesting weather and Scotland had a proper one!

There is so much to do in the garden, but at least the days are longer and everyone is hopefully feeling rejuvenated after a long mid-winter break.

Looking Good Early spring flowering plants are great for adding colour to the garden. ‘Lungworts’, so named for their spotted leaves, produce pretty little flowers from March to May (see pic). They are ground hugging, shade tolerant and flower in shades of blue, pink and white.

Numerous bulbous species are bursting into flower at this time, such as Narcissi, dwarf iris, grape hyacinth and Scilla sibirica.

Many trees flower early in the season, though the flowers tend to be smaller as they do not have to compete with so many other flowering plants as they would in April and May. The catkins of hazel, willow and also Garrya eliptica are a delight in late winter and early spring.

How about the brilliant splash of colour from spiky evergreen Mahonia Charity (pic above). The fragrant yellow blooms will light up a darker corner, cascading from above the handsome glossy leaves.

Jobs in the Garden March is probably the month when most planting gets done, as ground conditions

improve, whether trees, shrubs, fruit bushes, perennials, climbers and so on. Some groups of plants such as clematis and hydrangeas need pruning with care, as some types within the group may loose potential flowering wood for the season. It is time for a final tidy-up: pruning many evergreens (individuals or hedges), cutting back perennials, pruning winter stems, climbers, roses etc.

In the kitchen garden we should get plenty of action this month.

later in the month. If soil conditions allow, sow vegetable seed such as beetroot, broad beans, cabbage, cauliflower, carrots, lettuce, spinach. Early potatoes should be ‘chitted’ indoors first, then planted about 30cm apart, ideally in the base of a well fertilised trench, preferably using organic matter.

Rake the soil down, firming and levelling as you go. Finish with a fine 'tilth' and sow with lawn seed at round 50gm per square metre.

Rake the seed in and if you have a roller handy, use it now for a perfect finish.

All that is necessary for the next three weeks is to keep moisture in the top layer to allow the seed to germinate.
