Operational effectiveness
Infrastructure investment

You must consider the above and determine future organisational priorities
• Review the organisational information and financial forecast
• Identify key strategic risks and pressures
• Agree strategic priorities for the next three years
• Prepare a strategic briefing for the governance board
Determine which areas should be:
•Protected, prioritised, developed, reduced, deferred or reconsidered

Produce the most defensible strategic response
• Catch up
• Discuss the following prompts and prepare to give feedback

During the breakout, you are encouraged to:
• challenge assumptions
• debate priorities
• explore different strategic responses
• consider both short-term and long-term implications
• balance organisational values with operational realities
• justify decisions using evidence from the resources provided

•not all priorities can necessarily be funded or sustained simultaneously
•financial viability alone is unlikely to provide a sufficient strategic response
•different leadership teams may reasonably arrive at different conclusions

What became most difficult during the discussion?
Which priorities did your group instinctively protect?
Which areas became hardest to justify financially?
Where did values and sustainability begin to conflict?
How did your own professional background/experience influence your thinking?
What did the task reveal/teach you about yourself?

Consider how today’s discussions connect to:
• long-term organisational sustainability
• strategic planning and prioritisation
• workforce deployment and operational effectiveness
• financial and resource management
• organisational risk and decision-making
• infrastructure, technology and procurement considerations
• balancing organisational values with operational realities
• presenting and justifying evidence-informed recommendations
