Australia Day 2019 at Bellbridge Recipients of the Australia Day Awards Citizenship of the Year—Brendan Pearson
Young Citizen of the Year— Tilly Pearson
Brendan is a Talgarno resident with a strong commitment to the well-being of his community and parent with his wife Jill of three delightful daughters.
Tilly Pearson is a resident of Talgarno and a student at Talgarno Primary School where she has excelled is academic, social and sporting activities at the school and within the wider community.
Brendan has been the Secretary of the Talgarno Tennis Club for over 10 years and is now the Grants Officer. He has successfully sourced grants for new fencing around the courts, expansion of the club rooms, upgrade of the lights and other fundraising events. He has also coordinated coaching of junior tennis players. Brendan is currently Secretary of the Talgarno Fire Brigade and instigated the Talgarno-Bethanga junior brigade this year. Brendan has been a member of the Talgarno School Council since 2013 and is currently the President. In November each year Brendan grows a moustache to participate in the Movember fundraising event. Many of us will have heard ‘The Last Post’ trumpeted by Brendan at the Anzac Day ceremony at Bethanga.
Tilly has performed in the Albury – Wodonga Theatre Company productions of ‘Oliver’, ‘Zanadu’ and had a main role in ‘Beauty and the Beast’ as Chip and was Mudpoo in the combined Talgarno and Bethanga Primary Schools Musical production ‘Mudpoo and the Fungus Mystery.’ At the Australia Day awards at Bellbridge in 2018, Tilly sang the National Anthem and sang at the Bellbridge Carols in December 2018 and the Albury Carols in 2017.
In 2018 Tilly raised $2500 for ‘Hair with Heart’, a Brendan Pearson is a highly skilled, respected and valued Children’s Charity which aims to raise money and collect community member.
