Welcome/President’s Address On behalf of the Canowindra Show Society, welcome to the

2026 Canowindra Show. Last year’s show brought our community together for two fantastic days celebrating everything that makes Canowindra special. From agricultural displays and livestock judging to show jumping and horse ring events, yard dog trials and dog high jump, the ever-popular animal nursery, vintage tractor pull, wood chopping and shearing displays, pavilion exhibits, local produce, market stalls, sideshow alley, and a spectacular fireworks finale, there truly was something for everyone. It is this unique blend of tradition, agriculture, community spirit, and family fun that keeps people coming back year after year. We sincerely thank every exhibitor, volunteer, sponsor, competitor and visitor who helped make the 2025 Show such a success. This year, we are building on that momentum, with a full program featuring shearing, sheep judging, cattle judging, horse events, poultry, yard dog trials, dog high jumping, wood chopping, the tractor pull, animal nursery, market stalls and much more. Whether you are here to compete, exhibit, catch up with friends and neighbours, or simply enjoy a great day out, we hope you make the most of everything the Show has to offer. The Canowindra Show would not be possible without the dedication of our volunteers, committee members, sponsors and supporters who give their time throughout the year. Dog High Jump (near dog trials)

Livestock Showjumping Showjumping at the Canowindra Show begins Saturday at 8am, featuring classes from 45cm to 1m. Designed by course builder Clinton Hedger and stewarded by Kylie Reeves, the competition showcases precision, speed and the partnership between horse and rider. Spectators can enjoy a full day of action as competitors tackle challenging courses, making showjumping one of the most exciting events on the Show programme.

Sheep The Sheep Section gets underway on Friday from 9am with the Prime Lamb Competition, where exhibitors present lambs bred and prepared to meet premium market specifications. Judges assess factors such as weight, muscling, finish and overall quality, recognising producers who demonstrate excellence in lamb production and the supply of high-quality livestock to the industry. Saturday from 9:30am sharp sees the judging of the Australian British Breeds Sheep, featuring traditional British-origin sheep breeds renowned for their wool, meat and dual-purpose qualities. Judges evaluate each exhibit on breed characteristics, structure, fleece quality and overall presentation, showcasing the breeding expertise and dedication of local and visiting exhibitors.

Beef Cattle We are pleased to welcome Beef Cattle Judging back to the Canowindra Show, showcasing quality cattle from across the region. The section also includes free Junior Parading and Judging Classes, giving young competitors the opportunity to develop their cattle handling and assessment skills. 16

Horse Classes Friday is the Local Canowindra Pony Club Day, giving members a great opportunity to gain competition experience and enjoy the show atmosphere on their home turf. On Saturday, the Horse Section features a full hack programme, including classes for Miniature Ponies, showcasing quality horses, ponies and riders throughout the day.

Poultry The Poultry Section will be judged on Saturday, featuring a diverse range of breeds from across the region. Birds are assessed on breed standards, condition and presentation, showcasing the dedication and expertise of local poultry exhibitors. A popular attraction for all ages, the pavilion offers visitors a chance to get up close to an impressive display of poultry.

Entertainment Animal Nursery Located at the end of the Sheep Shed, the Animal Nursery is home to a collection of friendly and cuddly animals. Visitors can get up close to bunnies, chickens, goats, lambs and more on Saturday, making it a favourite attraction for children and adults alike. It’s hard not to fall in love with these adorable furry friends!

Dog High Jump Join us on Saturday afternoon for the exciting Dog High Jump, where dogs of all sizes put their athleticism and determination to the test. A crowd favourite, this entertaining event sees canine competitors reach impressive heights, with even the smallest dogs often delivering remarkable performances. It’s a fun-filled spectacle not to be missed. 17

Car, Ute & Bike Show The Car, Ute & Bike Show brings together everything motor enthusiasts love about a country show. From classic cars to feral utes, motorcycles and modern favourites, there’s plenty to admire for visitors of all ages. Whether you’re passionate about horsepower, craftsmanship or simply enjoy a stroll through a great display of vehicles, this popular section is sure to have something that catches your eye.

Live Band We are pleased to welcome Wildcard to the Canowindra Show, taking to the stage from 7pm on Friday night. Known for their energetic performances and crowd-pleasing setlist, Wildcard will keep showgoers entertained with a wide range of classic Australian rock favourites and popular hits from legendary artists including INXS, AC/DC, Cold Chisel, Jimmy Barnes, The Angels, Midnight Oil, The Screaming Jets, Paul Kelly and many more. Grab a drink, catch up with friends at the bar and enjoy a great night of live music before & after the fireworks.

Fireworks Proudly brought to you by Conway Rural, the Canowindra Show’s spectacular Fireworks Display lights up the sky from 8pm on Friday night. A highlight of the Show programme, this dazzling display is the perfect way to finish an exciting day, providing entertainment for the whole family.

Competitions Young Woman & Rural Achiever The Young Woman and Rural Achiever Competition celebrates the leadership, community involvement and achievements of young people in rural and regional areas. Entrants gain valuable experience while representing their communities and showcasing the vibrant future of country Australia.

Junior Young Woman The Junior Young Woman Competition provides a wonderful opportunity for younger entrants (13 – 17 years) to build confidence, develop public speaking skills and become involved in their local Show community. It encourages personal growth, participation and community spirit.

All entries must be made online via Global Entries. Entries close Wednesday, 23 September 2026 at 5:00pm. No entries will be accepted on the day.

CONDITIONS OF ENTRY:

Complaints • Complaints must be lodged in writing, accompanied by a non-refundable $50 fee, and submitted to the Secretary’s Office within 24 hours of the Show’s completion. • Refunds • No refunds will be given on any entry fees paid. Waiver of Liability Forms All competitors must sign the relevant waiver of liability form and bring to the Horse Show Marquee to obtain a wrist band allowing entry to the ring. Stallions •

Stallions/colts must be handled at all times by a person over the age of 17 years and must be led with a bit (except where Breed Society rules allow otherwise).

•

Stallions are not eligible to compete in any class other than stallion classes and Champion/Reserve classes where applicable.

Rider Age Requirements • Led/Leading Rein Classes: Minimum rider age 3 years. • Independent Riding Classes: Minimum rider age 5 years. • Led/Leading Rein classes apply to Show Horse and Breed classes only and are not permitted in Showjumping. 27

General Rules •

Horses must compete in either the Show Hunter or Hack Ring – not both.

•

Horses and ponies competing in Breed classes must be registered with the relevant Breed Society.

•

The Judge’s decision is final.

•

Judges may ask competitors to remove a horse if, in their opinion, the horse or rider is ill-mannered or unfit to compete.

•

Failure to comply with the directions of Judges, Stewards, or Event Organisers may result in disqualification and removal from the Showground. Offenders may be disqualified from future Shows without refund.

•

An approved safety helmet must be worn at all times when mounted, including in warm-up areas.

•

Competitors must be suitably attired. Stewards may preclude riders who are not properly dressed.

•

Judges may withhold awards if an exhibit is not of sufficient merit.

•

Horses, galloways and ponies must compete at their correct height. Current official height certificates will be accepted and horses will not be re-measured on the day.

•

Exhibitors must provide proof of correctness of entries if requested by Stewards.

•

Competitors not present at the commencement of their class may be disqualified at the Steward’s discretion.

•

The Canowindra P.A. & H. Association Inc. reserves the right to alter the program, judges, or ring timetable as necessary.

Responsibility •

The Canowindra P.A. & H. Association Inc. accepts no responsibility for accidents, injuries, or damage to competitors, volunteers, helpers, spectators, animals, goods, property, or vehicles. Attendance at the Show is at your own risk.

•

Each exhibitor shall hold the Canowindra P.A. & H. Association Inc. blameless and indemnify it against any legal proceedings arising from accidents.

•

The Association will not, under any circumstances, be responsible for the loss or damage of any exhibit.

•

Payment of entry constitutes acceptance of the Canowindra P.A. & H. Association Inc. Rules & Regulations.

Definitions •

Newcomer: a horse or pony that has not competed under saddle at any event (except horse racing) before a specific date, often the start of its “newcomer year”.

•

Novice: A horse or rider who has not won a 1st place in a similar event in the Open Ring of a Hack or Agricultural Show.

•

Adult: A rider who has turned 17 years before the first day of the Show.

•

Child: A rider who has not turned 17 years before the first day of the Show.

•

Local: A pony, galloway or hack owned by an exhibitor who resides within 25km of the Canowindra Showground.

CONDITIONS OF ENTRY: ENTRIES AND EXHIBITORS 1.

All birds must be the bona fide property of the exhibitor named on the entry form. Any attempt to misrepresent will result in disqualification and forfeiture of awards, at the discretion of the judges or show committee.

Birds must be clean and in good health. Exhibitors are responsible for the condition of their birds while penned. Any bird considered to be carrying parasites or showing signs of contagious disease will be rejected and removed immediately at the owner’s risk. Judges are directed not to handle suspect birds but to report them to the committee.

No person may pen or enter an exhibit on behalf of a disqualified exhibitor. No entries will be accepted from persons under disqualification by any poultry club or kindred body.

4. Birds may only be entered in one class. Exhibits within a classification will be penned in adjoining or nearby pens where possible. Birds entered in the wrong class will become non-competitive once judging commences. 5.

The committee reserves the right to refuse entries or restrict numbers in accordance with available penning space.

All penned birds are under committee control for the duration of the show. Birds may not be handled by anyone other than judges or stewards. Judging sticks may only be used by official judges. Permission for photography or other valid reasons may be granted by a committee member.

Any unauthorised person found removing birds or eggs from pens will be dealt with at the committee’s discretion. Eggs laid during the show will be collected for disposal unless previously claimed by the owner.

8. Submission of a completed entry form and payment is deemed acceptance of these rules and an acknowledgment that the exhibitor indemnifies the Canowindra P.A. & H. Association, its officials, and stewards from all liability for loss, damage, or injury. The committee will exercise due care but accepts no responsibility for loss, damage, or injury of any kind. Penning and unpenning must be supervised by appointed stewards. JUNIORS Junior exhibitors must pen their own entries. Juniors are requested to be present at the time of judging of the junior section to receive feedback and encouragement.

JUDGING RULES 1.

Judging will be open unless otherwise stipulated. Any person causing distraction or behaving inappropriately will be required to leave the judging area immediately.

Judges must act responsibly and impartially, free from personal bias or outside influence.

Judging decisions must be based solely on the recognised Standard of Perfection for the relevant breeds/varieties (generally the current edition of the Australian Standard of Poultry Perfection). 4.

Judges must not consider for awards any bird they have owned or cared for within the past four months. Exhibitors are also expected not to enter such birds.

Awards are at the discretion of the judges and are relative to the merits of the birds presented. Birds considered markedly inferior in type, colour, or condition may be downgraded or passed, regardless of class competition.

All judges’ decisions are final.

To ensure uniformity and depending on size it is suggested the raisins be snipped into 2 or 3 pieces, cherries 4-6 pieces and the almonds crossways into 3 – 4 pieces (NUTS TO BE CUT TO THE SIZE OF THE SMALLEST PIECE OF FRUIT)

METHOD: Mix together all fruits and nuts and sprinkle with sherry or brandy. Cover and leave overnight preferably, or at least for one hour Sift together all flours and spices Cream together butter, sugar essences Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition Then alternately add the fruit and flour mixtures, mix thoroughly Mixture should be stiff enough to support a wooden spoon Place mixture in prepared SQUARE TIN, no larger than 20cm (8”) Bake in a slow oven for approximately 3 ¼ to 4 hours Allow to cool in tin Winners at Country Shows received a $10 prize and are required to bake a second cake for the semi-final of the RAS. 14 - winners at Regional level will receive $15.
