STEP ABOARD THE LEGEND OF

AN ICONIC SCHOONER

A L E G E N D O F T H E 2 0 T H C E N T U R Y

ATLANTIC is a majestic three-masted schooner, built in 1903 for Wilson Marshall, a distinguished member of the New York Yacht Club. Designed by William Gardner, one of the most renowned American naval architects of the era, she was constructed at the Townsend & Downey shipyard in the United States. Her long hull, towering masts soaring 45 meters above the waterline, vast sail area, exquisite interior design, and exceptional craftsmanship have made her one of the world’s most iconic schooners in yachting history

In 1905, German Emperor Wilhelm II inaugurated the first west-to-east transatlantic race the Kaiser’s Cup from the United States to England. Wilson Marshall entrusted the helm of his schooner ATLANTIC to Captain Charlie Barr, an American navigator of Scottish descent and the first three-time winner of the America’s Cup

With a crew of 50 men, Barr won the race, propelling ATLANTIC into legend with a record crossing time that would remain unbeaten for nearly a century an unforgettable milestone in sailing history.

ATLANTIC’s story unfolded over seventy-seven years, passed from on dreamer to another, including illustrious owners such as Corneliu Vanderbilt III and Gerald Lambert. Serving at times as a mother sh for elite racing yachts, she supported America’s Cup defenders durin her early glory years and was requisitioned during both World Wars.

In 2008, classic-yacht enthusiast Ed Kastelein commissioned a full-sized replica of ATLANTIC, built at the Van der Graaf BV shipyard in the Netherlands With the original plans long lost, he undertook a meticulous research effort supported by naval architect Doug Peterson and historian John Lammerts van Bueren to gather enough surviving drawings, photographs, and documents to recreate the schooner with absolute fidelity.

While her exterior remained a faithful tribute to the 1903 design, the interior was reimagined with discretion, preserving the spirit of the original while providing the utmost level of comfort expected of a modern yacht Launched in 2010, ATLANTIC stands today as the resurrected icon of a golden age of maritime elegance.
