THE SABIN ENTREPRENEURIAL PRIZE PRESENTATIONS

What is it?

The Sabin Entrepreneurial Prize is an initiative created with the generous support of the Andrew Sabin Family Foundation to educate and expose Berkshire students enrolled in Advanced Economics to entrepreneurship and sustainability.

The Sabin Entrepreneurial Prize is awarded to the best business plan for a product, service, project, or program that not only could be financially feasible but could contribute to living in more sustainable communities. Additionally, the prize competition provides quality feedback from professionals, collaboration with the Yale Center for Business and the Environment, and opportunities for participants to meet with guest speakers from the business and environmental worlds.

The Sabin Entrepreneurial Prize seeks to:

• Introduce students to the essentials of writing a business plan;

• Provide a real-world platform to practice public speaking and presenting;

• Promote the entrepreneurial spirit;

• Stimulate creativity and critical thinking as it applies to the area of sustainable living;

• Reward effective collaboration in the construction and promotion of a coherent and sustainable business plan.

Who is the sponsor?

Parent of Samuel Sabin ’13 and Matthew Cortes ’17

Grandparent of Michael Sabin ’21, Keira Sabin ’22, Ella Sabin ’24

Mr. Sabin does more than simply provide financial support to hundreds of organizations; he is actively engaged with community and environmental programs around the world. He spearheaded the building of a community recreation center in East Hampton, NY. As an extension of his lifelong fascination with reptiles and amphibians and dedication to environmental education, he founded the South Fork Natural History Museum in Bridgehampton, and he continues to lead nature walks for the institution. Mr. Sabin also participated in an expedition to Papua, New Guinea, that resulted in the discovery of a new species of frog that is named for him: Aphantophryne sabini.

He has served for several years on the environmental law advisory boards at Columbia Law School and UCLA School of Law, relationships that began through his role as treasurer of The Evan Frankel Foundation, which made grants of more than $17 million during its 15-year existence. Mr. Sabin is also proud to be a member of the board of visitors of the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center at the University of Texas since 2005. In 2007, to provide more professional support for his philanthropy and involve his family in charitable giving, he established the Andrew Sabin Family Foundation. Mr. Sabin’s passions are his family, the environment, bicycling, and fishing. He also has a fondness for purple martins.

Who are the judges?

Andrew Koudijs ’16

Andrew is the founder of Hennep, a cannabis retailer and cultivator. Hennep operates a 75,000 square foot facility specializing in cultivation and product manufacturing, along with multiple retail locations. Andrew oversees the company’s sales, marketing, and retail operations. A Berkshire School alumnus, Andrew was a member of the team that won the 2016 Sabin Entrepreneurial Prize with their project EZ Park. He went on to attend Boston University, where he earned a degree in communications. As a freshman at BU, he founded Hennep and has grown it into a successful multi-faceted operation.

Anthony St. Clair P’27

Anthony is the senior advisor to Mikal Ventures, a venture studio focused on acquiring, transforming, and scaling early-stage companies that use artificial intelligence to influence individuals’ health outcomes to promote better health. He is also the proud father of Gabrielle ’27.

Emily Zelenovic ’08

Emily is a real estate attorney and founder of her own practice in the Berkshires, where she focuses exclusively on residential and commercial real estate conveyancing. She earned her bachelor of arts, magna cum laude, from Endicott College and her juris doctor from Boston University School of Law, before returning home in 2017 to serve the community where she was raised. Emily is admitted to practice law in Massachusetts and New York and currently lives in Stockbridge with her husband and two children. Emily has a multi-generational connection to Berkshire School. She and her husband, Saša, met as Fourth Formers in 2005, and her family’s legacy at the school spans nearly four decades, with five of her six siblings graduating between 1993 and 2012. Her mother, Carolee, also served the school community for many years as a nurse. Emily looks forward to the possibility of her children continuing the family’s legacy in the years ahead, with an eye toward the classes of 2036 and 2040.

What are the business plans?

PeakReserve

Charlotte Davenport ’26  Soren Gates ’26  Georgia Perkins ’26

PeakReserve provides predictive, intelligent energy-management software for stadium-scale battery systems, acting as the decision-making intelligence that automates real-time savings. By predicting energy spikes and discharging stored off-peak electricity during expensive windows, the system minimizes utility expenses and eliminates costly demand charges. Beyond financial gain, PeakReserve reduces reliance on carbon-intensive "peaker" plants by flattening massive demand curves. Ultimately, our mission is to improve grid stability and increase renewable utilization, proving that stadium-scale sustainability is not only environmentally responsible but also highly profitable.

ForestEdge

Boren ’26  Dylan Chernoff ’26 

Jack Giles ’26  David Peracchia ’26

Every 35 seconds, a driver in America hits an animal. 1.7 million claims. 26,000 injuries. Every year. Meet ForestEdge, solar tree bands that detect wildlife before it reaches the road and a chip in your car that flashes a warning to your dashboard. No new infrastructure. No cell service needed. Insurance-ready, up to 10% off your premium. Protect what's around the next curve. Scan the code. ForestEdge, real data, real time, real safety.

BlueLoop Recycling

The Turks and Caicos Islands (TCI) have had no functioning recycling program since 2015, leaving an estimated 5,200 end-oflife refrigerators and AC units discarded annually in vacant lots and landfills. These units leak refrigerants and heavy metals that threaten the environment. BlueLoop solves this by building the first systematic pipeline to collect and export hazardous appliances in TCI. We partner with hotels, businesses, and households to collect decommissioned units, disassemble them into individual parts, and ship them to U.S. recyclers via the empty-return capacity of containers already headed back to Florida. The result: hazardous waste removed, valuable materials recovered, and a cleaner island using a local processing facility and existing shipping routes.

PaperTrail

Chloe Egan ’26  Andrew Hammill ’27  Hannah Knight ’26

Every year, billions of paper receipts are printed. What a waste. Introducing PaperTrail a digital receipt platform that transforms the way you interact with your finances. PaperTrail tracks your spending habits, warranties, and even suggests smarter, more sustainable purchases. You can even earn reward points which can be redeemed for discounts and gift cards at partnered stores. Stop throwing away money—and harming the planet with it. Download PaperTrail and make every purchase smarter today.

Guilder

Julio Azuaje Mijares ’26  Gus Chong ’26  Bauer Gammill ’27

Every year, billions of dollars in clean energy incentives go unclaimed, not because homeowners don't care, but because the process of accessing them is a nightmare. Navigating hundreds of rebate programs, vetting contractors, and figuring out what to upgrade and in what order defeats most people before they start. Guilder fixes that. Enter your address, utility bill, and access our AI scanner through our integrated platform that builds a personalized electrification roadmap with exact costs, savings, and every available incentive already applied. We then connect you with a certified local contractor, ready to build. One address. One bill. One platform. The clean home you've been putting off is now just one decision away.

NextGen Energy

Dean Calio ‘27  Jack Mugler ‘26  Rory Perkins ‘26

Americans waste around 19 billion dollars worth of energy every year. Our mission is to reduce this number by saving homeowners money on their monthly electricity bills. Our smart panel optimizes your energy use by learning your habits, reducing energy waste, and finding the most cost-effective windows using our proprietary AI system. NextGen is the next step towards making home energy efficient, affordable, and automatic.
