Club 25th Anniversary Q&A with the Miyamotos July 4th Grand Celebration
s late spring rolls into early summer, days stretch longer and our easy Lowcountry lifestyle seems to slow just a bit. With more time to enjoy the beauty of our natural surroundings, it’s easy to toast to the good life at Berkeley Hall!
Gorgeous weather beckons us outside to enjoy golf and we’re looking forward to the Mixed Member-Guest, followed by the Club Championships.
BHC’s spectacular Grand Fourth of July Celebration is a well-loved Club tradition! Friday’s Lobster Bake kicks off a great weekend of events for you and your families with Saturday morning Firecracker 5k | Fun Run and Cart Parade, and that evening’s Grand
Celebration and Fireworks Showcase! Check out our full line-up – on pages 10-11.
In national news, Bluffton was recently showcased as the next big real estate bet by media real estate broker Ryan Serhant. Of course, we already know what a special place we have here in the Lowcountry, and overall momentum at the Club continues with ongoing home builds, new plans in ARB, and a growing number of discovery visitors drawn to our welcoming community. We have a wonderful story to tell, and it’s a great one to share with your family and friends. The excitement continues as we approach Berkeley Hall Club’s 25th Silver Anniversary Celebration. We invite you to celebrate with us, with special dining and member events that reflect our whole community. And in this issue, our special Q&A with the Miyamotos showcases just what our next chapter of young families love most about the Berkeley Experience.
As the sunshine glimmers on our Lowcountry waters, nature’s lush green hues surround us. Let’s get out and enjoy it!

Berkeley Hall Charitable FOUNDATION
Memory Matters - Quiet Impact. Lasting Change.
We continue our series highlighting the local impact made possible through your generosity – support that enabled $500,000 in grants to Lowcountry charities making a daily difference in the lives of our neighbors.
One of this year’s grantees is Memory Matters, an organization dedicated to supporting families, advancing brain health, and strengthening our community. Many of us know the quiet reality of caring for a loved one with Alzheimer’s or dementia at home, an act of deep love that is also deeply demanding.
That’s where Memory Matters’
twice-weekly Respite Program makes a meaningful difference. Hosted at St. Gregory, the program provides a safe, engaging, and social environment for individuals with early- to middle-stage dementia – while offering caregivers the time and peace of mind they need.
“It means everything to see him engaged again, to know he’s safe, supported, and treated with dignity. And for me, it’s the peace of mind to take care of life’s necessities.”
— Bob’s wife
Bob is one of 35 regular participants. Living with dementia, macular degeneration, and significant hearing
loss, he once spent most of his days at home with limited interaction. Today, he participates in music, movement, art, and group activities thoughtfully adapted to his needs – reconnecting with others and rediscovering a sense of routine and joy.
Memory Matters extends its impact in many ways: delivering nutritious meals, coordinating accessible transportation, and ensuring inclusive support for Spanish-speaking families –meeting people where they are. This is the kind of work that often happens quietly, but changes lives in meaningful ways. And because of you, it continues.
A legacy that extends well beyond today Berkeley Hall Charitable Endowment
As Berkeley Hall approaches its 25th anniversary, a defining question is: what will endure? Memories we’ve made are lasting — but so too is the legacy we choose to leave behind.
The Berkeley Hall Charitable Foundation’s Endowment Fund was created for those who wish to make an impact that extends well beyond today. While annual events and contributions meet immediate needs, the Endowment ensures our ability to serve the Lowcountry remains strong.
A notable number of members have stepped forward, quietly shaping the Foundation’s future. As this group grows, so too does its role in defining the next chapter of Berkeley Hall’s tradition of generosity.
These members reflect a shared belief in present impact and longterm responsibility.
We invite you to take your place in what endures as a lasting legacy. Whether joining the Endowment or growing your existing pledge, your participation helps ensure that Berkeley Hall’s legacy of giving remains strong for decades to come. For information, please contact Craig Herman: hermgolf@yahoo.com, or Mike Brocato: mikejbrocato@gmail.com.

Save the Date
for our spectacular Silver 25th Celebration on Saturday,
October 17th, 2026
As we approach this remarkable milestone, our story is best told through the voices of our members, we hope you enjoy hearing them and learning more about our Club’s shared history.
The Miyamoto family: Kacie, Skip, Finley and Hudson, sailed into the Lowcountry in 2024. Before landing on the East Coast, this sailing family lived aboard their 50' catamaran, splitting the year between six months of sailing and their mountain home in Incline Village, NV for four adventurous years!
As magical as that chapter was, the logistics of constant travel and moving between coasts eventually led them to ask: where do we put down roots? “Our wish list was specific. We wanted easy boating access to the Bahamas, exceptional golf, and the right school environment for our children,” said Kacie.
So they searched somewhere in the middle and discovered Bluffton at the same time they found the right school for 11-year-old Finley and 9-year old Hudson.
BHC: What brought you to BHC?
K&S: Berkeley Hall felt like the perfect
fit from the very beginning. It checked every box: close proximity to our children's school and extracurricular activities. The golf courses are pristine, the practice facility is outstanding, and the club hospitality is truly second to none. But honestly? We were won over by the people. The warmth and friendliness we experienced during our tour was unlike anything we’d encountered. And when Alex Madeiros surprised our children with ProV1 golf balls, it was a done deal. They still talk about it!
BHC: Love Most?
K&S: There is so much to love! Our children are obsessed with the view of holes 9 and 18 from the Verandah. As a family, we treasure afternoon time on the golf course: drive, chip, and putt games at the practice facility, or attempting to finish all 18 holes together! Tennis, pickleball, golf, exceptional instruction, and fun club events year-round, there’s always something to do!
BHC: Favorite Memory?
K&S: Aside from the unforgettable surprise of Skip purchasing our home (we’d been planning to build in an entirely different neighborhood!) Biking the trails together as a family, discovering the snack dispensers (Finley & Hudson), and most memorable of all: the moment we arrived at the gate after purchasing our home, and Pierre Prioleau greeted us by name. He’d remembered us from our tour a full year earlier! That kind of genuine attention to people is rare, and it says everything about this community.
BHC: What Do You Find Most Meaningful?
K&S: The people - from day one, every member and staff member has welcomed our family with open arms. Berkeley Hall is more than a club. It is a true community, and one we feel incredibly fortunate to raise our children in.

“Buckeye” by Patrick Ryan
In Bonhomie, Ohio, a stolen moment of passion, sparked in the aftermath of the Allied victory in Europe, binds Cal Jenkins, a man wounded not in war but by his inability to serve in it, to Margaret Salt, a woman trying to obscure her past. Cal’s wife, Becky is a seer who can conjure the dead, helping families connect with those they’ve lost. Margaret’s husband, Felix, is serving on a Navy cargo ship, out of harm’s way until a telegram suggests the unthinkable. As the country reconstructs in the postwar boom, a secret grows in Bonhomie.

But when the lovely, mysterious widow Grace March moves into the attic room, she draws her oddball collection of neighbors into unlikely friendship. Her weekly attic-room dinner parties become a healing balm on all their lives, but she hides a terrible secret. Most recently at Ocean Reef Club in Key Largo where he oversaw the 2,500acre private Platinum Club, including banquets, pastry, and a cooking school, he joined Berkeley Hall in late March as we began a new chapter in our Club's culinary story.
Prior to that, he owned and served as Culinary Director and Executive Chef at the acclaimed Jaso Restaurant Group in Mexico City, complete with luxury four-star restaurant, bakeries, restaurants, and catering operation.
“Every flavor tells a story, a tasteful journey that leads you to the Berkeley Hall table.”
– Chef Jared Reardon
With accolades spanning from Forbes to Five-Star Diamond Awards from the American Academy of Hospitality Sciences, his credentials include Certified Executive Chef through the American Culinary Federation, Associate Degree and Bachelor of Arts in Culinary Management (with honors) from The Culinary Institute of America.
His career reflects a rare combination of technical mastery across casual and contemporary cuisine, innovative menu creation, team leadership and a genuine passion for personalized, high-touch member service.
Many of you had the chance to meet him at our April Meet & Greets along with other Club dining events and experience the exceptional depth and complexity of flavors he artfully brings to the table. Berkeley Hall’s Special Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon – Raise a Glass!
THURSDAY, MAY 14 | 4PM
We invite you to join us as we raise a glass to Berkeley Hall’s Special Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon. Join us at our Tasting Hour on Thursday, May 14th at 4pm in the Verandah as we unveil this full-bodied Napa Valley Cabernet. Enjoy a welcome glass, vinted in special recognition of our Club’s founding, as we approach our Silver 25th Anniversary!
“Smooth and well-balanced, with rich dark fruit flavors and light oak influence and a structured feel with a soft, approachable finish.”
Welcoming to the palate, our Special Reserve pays homage to our beautiful
Savannah Gardens and the Berkeley Hall story.
Lord John Berkeley of Stratton, an English army officer and colonial proprietor of the 17th century, was one of seven original lords of the Carolina colonies. His influence was instrumental in the export of Sea Island cotton from the Bahamas and Barbados to the Carolinas, aiding with the settlement of Beaufort County. Because of his role in the history of this part of South Carolina, the Berkeley family crest was woven into the logo and history of Berkeley Hall Club.
Toast to the good life with our special reserve, our newest addition to our wine list, and also available for purchase.

Dunton’s unique, custom approach is matched by the award-winning technology at Berkeley Hall’s 33-acre Learning Center. “We have the technology to properly diagnose what’s going on with the golf ball, the golf club. I individualize what you can do with your body through bio-swing dynamics, because
everyone is built differently. No one is going to swing the golf club the same, nor should they, as we all have different physical structures. In my 25-plus years of teaching, what makes me different is I know what to leave alone and what to pinpoint and fix so you build a golf swing you can own and it can repeat on the course.”
Once on the course, Dunton works on the other elements of human skills: how you think, react to your shot, manage your emotions and develop great technical skills that repeat under pressure, with a good mental set that allows you to perform at your best.
“We are fortunate to have some of the best technology so we can measure and assess. We measure so we don’t guess, and the changes we make as your teachers and coaches are going to help you improve your game.”
We want to offer you something different, and customize it to you, the individual. I believe everyone has their own unique swing DNA. We work with what you have, and enhance that and make it better.
–Krista Dunton
DAY 1 We use technology to get a game plan of where you are and where you’re going to go to.
DAY 2 The process of getting your game on the course. How to think correctly, make it productive, implement swing changes under competition and pressure.
DAY 3 How to keep this going, and practice correctly and efficiently.
“We want to teach you how to manage variability. What I love about our Learning Center and two golf courses, is we’ve got every shot imaginable you can learn to play,” adds Dunton. “We teach you a variety of shots, different trajectories –so when you go on the course, you take those shots you learned in practice and tap into that with confidence.”

DUNTON
TLEANING INTO TECHNOLOGY
his year, we’re leaning further into technology that can help us manage the golf courses with more precision and consistency. While much of this work happens behind the scenes, it plays a direct role in the conditions you see every day.
We are expanding how we track weather across the property. With multiple weather stations and digital rain gauges, this will give us a much better understanding of what is happening on each course, not just what a general forecast says. In the Lowcountry, where storms can be very localized, that matters. It allows us to make more informed decisions on irrigation, timing of applications, and overall course setup. It will also automatically shut irrigation off, avoiding unnecessary watering during overnight storms.
One of the more impactful additions will be TurfRad sensors. These are not traditional probes or in-ground sensors. Instead, they are mounted on our equipment and collect thousands of moisture readings as we move across the golf course. Using passive microwave technology, they measure moisture in the root zone without ever touching the turf. What that gives us is a full map of
moisture across an entire fairway or green, not just a few sample points. It takes a lot of the guesswork out and shows us exactly where areas are too wet, too dry, or right where we want them.
That TurfRad data ties directly into our irrigation control platform. This technology uses those moisture maps to recommend precise adjustments at the sprinkler level.
This year, we’re leaning further into technology that can help us manage the golf courses with more precision and consistency. –Adam Miller
Instead of making broad changes like “run everything a little longer,” we can fine-tune individual heads based on actual conditions. The result is much more consistent moisture across the course, fewer wet and dry spots, and more efficient water use. In simple terms,
it helps us get closer to the firm and consistent playing surfaces we are always working toward.
We’ve also continued to build out our use of disease prediction models. These systems take realtime weather data — temperature, humidity, and leaf wetness — and model when conditions are favorable for disease development. Instead of reacting after we see an issue, we can anticipate when pressure is building and be more targeted in how and when we respond. That leads to healthier turf and a more efficient overall program.
You may have also noticed the continued testing of autonomous mowers from Kress, Husqvarna, and John Deere in select areas. These units continue to evolve, and we plan to expand their use overtime, particularly as we approach our next equipment lease cycle in mid-2027.
None of these tools replace the experience of our team, but they do give us better information and allow us to operate with more precision than ever before. At the end of the day, it’s about making smarter decisions, using resources more efficiently, and continuing to improve the consistency of conditions across both courses.
