Dear Berkeley Carroll Community,

s I completed my ninth and final year serving on Berkeley Carroll’s Board of Trustees in 2023-24, I have been reflecting on the many members of this vibrant community who choose to contribute to Berkeley Carroll in both time and philanthropic support.

A

Whether you donated to the 2023-24 Annual Fund, planned events to strengthen community bonds, made an enduring endowment gift that allows our faculty to be lifelong learners, or provided a transformational opportunity for a student to participate in the Global Studies Program, you have made an impact on the lives of all Berkeley Carroll students and their teachers. Your contributions, regardless of size or form, play a crucial role in fostering an environment where students can thrive, excel, and explore.

To the Board of Trustees and Dr. Waller, thank you for your leadership, partnership, and fierce dedication to this community. Your commitment has been instrumental in guiding our school through these years of growth and change. Thank you for modeling empathy, understanding, and compassion, and above all, for believing in the power of a Berkeley Carroll education. I am proud to have had the opportunity to be in the presence of such remarkable individuals and to have learned so much from each of you along the way.

As I look back on the past year, I am reminded of countless wonderful moments of growth, learning, and excitement. Our scientists posed insightful questions, sparking curiosity in the laboratory. Our musicians and athletes displayed their passion and energy, shining brightly on the stage and field. Our debaters parsed everything from climate policies to the impact of social media on their generation. Across all facets of our program, students moved through the year with curiosity, discernment, empathy, and resilience–all qualities that collectively shape our school’s values.

BC Black Family Matching Gift At BC, we aim to foster more open dialogue about how collective time, networks, and contributions can build a strong culture of philanthropy. Last spring, we hosted our first-ever affinity reception for Black-identifying parents and guardians, where BC parents Susan Chapman-Hughes, Christopher Hughes, and Felicia Stenhouse Eve issued a matching challenge. With immense enthusiasm, this unlocked over $40,000 for the Annual Fund.
