FOREVER

FA M I L I E S

Community partners helping local children find a brighter future Presented by

Photo by Marilyn Griggs Photography, The Heart Gallery of Central Texas

Sixteen-year-old Donnie has a gift for the guitar. He taught himself how to play four years ago and at his 25 News “Forever Families” filming in Waco he was given a new electric guitar by the non-profit, Partnerships for Children. Donnie even got the opportunity to put his new guitar to good use when he sat down with Texas musician Donna Beckham for a jam session. Donnie loves Classic Rock and all things Jimi Hendrix. He talked about songwriting and Donna told him to keep going for it. The world needs the light that shines bright inside of him. Donnie also wants to attend Texas A&M University and eventually become a Marine. “I just want to serve my country,” he told me. Donnie is smart and sweet and hopeful that he will find a forever family that will allow him to pursue his passions. His adoptive family should also be willing to facilitate continued contact with biological family members who have been supportive of him during his time in care. He is easy-going and will be a blessing to the family who welcomes him home. Donnie is featured in The Heart Gallery of Central Texas. Go to www.kxxv.com and click on the “Forever Families” tab to learn about adopting Donnie.

From registration to the last day of the session, the McLane Stadium Summer Camp makes sure campers are engaged in fun, challenging and educational activities. This non-specialty camp promises to give campers a variety of experiences they will be raving about until next summer. Kids can participate in the camp, which is in its fourth year, in one of three sessions—June 22 – 26, July 13 – 17, or July 27 – 31. Each session includes themed days, a pizza party and a water day complete with inflatable slides on the stadium’s football field. Campers will also get the chance to hear from some special outside visitors during their week of fun. “In the past we’ve had Waco PD and Waco Fire come and do demonstrations for the kids, D1 has come and set up an obstacle course on the field, and we’ve even had visitors from the Cameron Park Zoo who brought animals for the kids to see,” said Brock Meckelborg, McLane Stadium Operations Manager. While the camp is from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., parents have the option to pay a little extra for extended care, which allows children to be dropped off at 8 a.m. and picked up at 4 p.m. “During that time, we watch a movie, give them a snack, and do some arts and crafts,” he said. “It’s a better option for parents who are working fulltime or who work later in the day.” Parents can also opt for their kids to eat lunch at camp for just $5 a day, which takes the guess work out of packing a lunch for their child each day. And although registration for the camp has been open since Feb. 1, the operations manager encourages parents to put their kids on the waiting list because the organizers try to get as many kids into the camp as possible. “We’ve had so much fun doing this summer camp over the years, and we look forward to having another fun, successful summer with the campers,” Meckelborg said. “We hope to see you out there.” To register for the McLane Stadium Summer Camp, visit www.mclanestadiumsummercamp.myonlinecamp.com. For more information, send an emall to operations@mclanestadium.com or call (254) 710-8104. 7
