December will be a big month for Hewitt Public Library as they celebrate their 40th year serving the Hewitt area and its surrounding communities. The library will host a celebration for its big anniversary on Dec. 8 and offer special holiday activities during the first 12 Days of Christmas.

HPL began in 1983 when two Hewitt residents started a small library at First Baptist Church. Eventually the burgeoning library outgrew this location and in 1984, the library moved from the church to a shopping center. The library then relocated to the Hewitt Community Services Building in 1993, and eventually found a new home in their state-of-the-art facility on Patriot Court in 2016.

To celebrate the library’s history, HPL will host a celebration that will include live music, light hors d'oeuvres, pictures with Santa, and an art gallery highlighting the work of Dr. Spencer Moore.

“It’s really just a time of fellowship to celebrate the last 40 years and to recognize those that helped along the way,” said Hewitt Public Library director, Waynette Ditto.

Along with thanking contributors and patrons of the library with an anniversary party, HPL is also celebrating the holiday season with 12 Days of Christmas from Dec. 1 through Dec. 12.

“It’s just a little something extra we provide for the community to celebrate the start of the holiday season,” Ditto said.

Each day of the 12 Days, the library will offer one free Christmas-themed event including pictures with Santa, holiday story times, a Christmas scavenger hunt, adult, teen and kids craft days, a Christmas curiosity cart, a holiday music and movement class, and more.

“These events are a chance for you to do something special with your family and enjoy a good time at the library,” Ditto said. “We really think it’s going to be a magical season.”

FOREVER FAMILIES

This sweet, loving 13-year-old loves being a jokester. His witty comments and 1000-watt smile make him a light in any room. He is also an affectionate kid who loves to give hugs. He is into cars and sports and has lots of energy.

Victor can be strong-willed but is working to effectively manage his behavior. He would do best in a home where both parents can give him individualized attention. Victor has expressed a desire for a family who would be committed to him for the rest of his life. The teen’s ideal family would recognize the need and importance of continued therapeutic services to ensure Victor can live a happy and productive life.

Victor has biological siblings who have been adopted by other families. He would love to find a family who would allow him to continue those relationships.
