Our Story Throughout the years, the knowledge that Coltrin Mortuary has been a family-owned business is a
comfort for families. We have just celebrated our
84th year in operation and would like to thank all who made this possible.
Privately owned and operated the staff at Coltrin
Mortuary stresses the importance of compassion,
dignity, and personalized customer service for every organization and faith.
Owner and Funeral Director, Paul Coltrin, married
Nancy Stallings on June 10, 1970, in Idaho Falls. Their
goal was to establish a business that gives comfort, and peace of mind to families at a time when they
need it most. In 1979, Paul became a partner at HillColtrin-Sandberg Funeral Home in Blackfoot, Idaho.
On January 1, 1984, Paul and Nancy Coltrin purchased
Williams Funeral Home, which was established by Leo Williams in 1938 and was in downtown Idaho Falls at 555 E Street.
On January 1, 1989, they completed construction on their current First Street location. At that time
Williams and Coltrin Funeral Home became Coltrin
Mortuary. In 1998, an additional wing with viewing and crematory facilities were added to the building.

Our Staff
Staff members of Coltrin Mortuary & Crematory are caring and
experienced professionals who understand that each family is unique
and has personal requests and traditions. These requests and traditions are of utmost importance to our staff of licensed funeral directors.
Owner Paul I. Coltrin received his Funeral Director and Embalmer License from the San Francisco College of Mortuary Science in 1973. He grew up in Burley, Idaho, graduating
from Burley High School in 1967. He became a partner at Hill-Coltrin-Sandberg Funeral
Home in 1979 for four years. He purchased Williams Funeral Home in 1984 and changed the name to Coltrin Mortuary in 1989. He is active in his faith and has resided in Idaho Falls as well as Ammon for the past 30 years.
Paul has served as President of the Idaho Funeral Service Association and is an active
member of Rotary International. He is a past member of the Idaho Falls School District Paul Coltrin

#91 School Board and a past president of the Bonneville Unit of the American Cancer Society. He has also participated in community musical productions. He and his wife Nancy have six children and 25 grandchildren.
Nancy Coltrin was born in Rexburg, ID, the daughter of Boyd and Merle Stallings. She
grew up in the Idaho Falls, Rigby, and Rupert areas and graduated from Minico High School in 1967.
Nancy received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Brigham Young University in English Education with a minor in Speech and Drama in 1971
She married Paul Coltrin on June 10, 1970, in Idaho Falls. They have 6 children and 25 grandchildren.
Nancy taught for several years at Rocky Mountain Middle School and Hillcrest High Nancy Coltrin
School. She also assists in directing funeral services.

Doug Coltrin, son of Paul and Nancy Coltrin, received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Journalism and Mass Communication with an emphasis in Geography from the
University of Idaho in Moscow in 2001. Doug worked for funeral homes in the MoscowPullman area and joined the Coltrin Mortuary staff in 2003.
He grew up in Ammon and graduated from Hillcrest High School in 1994. Doug is a 2005 graduate of Arapahoe Community College’s Mortuary Science Program in Littleton
Colorado, and is a Licensed Mortician with Coltrin Mortuary. Doug is also a licensed agent with Great Western Insurance Company for selling pre-paid funeral plans. Doug Coltrin

In 2021 Doug became a Certified Crematory Operator through the National Funeral Directors Association. Doug is active with the Greater Idaho Falls Chamber of

Kyle is a Funeral Director with Coltrin Mortuary. He is the son of Kelly and Mac Larsen of Idaho Falls. He is a 1997 Graduate of Meridian High School in Meridian, Idaho, where he served as Senior Class President. He is a graduate of Northwest Nazarene College in Nampa, Idaho, where he majored in Biology and played soccer.
He has been with Coltrin Mortuary since 2004 and is a 2006 graduate of Arapahoe
Community College’s Mortuary Science Program. Kyle is an active member of the Idaho Falls Kiwanis Club. Kyle is also a licensed agent with Great Western Insurance Company for selling pre-paid funeral plans. Kyle Larsen
Kyle is married to the former Gina Pack, and they have 4 children and live in Ucon.

Kelby is a Funeral Director with Coltrin Mortuary. He is the son of Rick and Karen Dayley. He was born and raised in the Mini-Cassia area. Graduated from Burley High School in 2015, where he was actively involved in Student Government for 4 years, played in the High School band and marching band, and also on the golf team for 4 years.
He moved to Idaho Falls after graduating from High School. He is currently attending Brigham Young University-Idaho, working towards a Business Finance degree,
graduating in 2024. Kelby graduated from Northeast Texas Community College in
Mt. Pleasant, Texas, in May 2023, with his associates in Mortuary Science and Funeral Kelby Dayley

Bridgett is from Idaho Falls, where she graduated from Idaho Falls High School in 1988. She attended Ricks College until she married Frank Stanger. They have 4 boys and 1 grandson. She loves to spend her free time with her family.

Where to begin Planning a funeral can be overwhelming, but you are not alone in this. We’re here to support you throughout this journey and make this process one of love, healing, and life celebration. Below is some information to help you get started, but you can contact us at any time if you need help.
Within Hours When a loved one dies at home or in a place that isn’t a healthcare facility, you’ll need to contact emergency personnel before they can be taken into our care. If your loved one was under medical care, it’s a good idea to call their physician as well. If your loved one was under hospice care, please contact the hospice agency first. One of their staff will come to your home and will notify us when your loved one is ready to be brought to the funeral home. If your loved one dies in a healthcare facility, they will notify the proper authorities, including the funeral home you have chosen to care for your loved one if they know that information. This part of the process is often the most emotional, and we are here to help and support you. If you’re not sure what to do, call us any time.
Within the First Few Days You’ll want to notify close friends and relatives, both through personal phone calls as well as your loved one’s death notice. If this process is too painful for you, it’s absolutely okay to ask a trusted family member or friend to help you. This also is the time to review any of your loved one’s preplanned funeral wishes and meet with a funeral director to begin planning their service. If your loved one did not preplan their funeral, you might want to start thinking about a few of the big choices you will need to make, such as:

What to Expect When We Meet When you meet with a member of our staff to discuss your arrangements, we’ll first provide you with a general price list to give you a basic idea of what our services cost. We’ll then ask you about your loved one to gain an understanding of the person the services will honor. Use this time to communicate your ideas and preferences, share your loved one’s life story, revisit memories, and highlight their accomplishments. Our professionals will use this information to guide you in the creation of a personalized, meaningful celebration of your loved one’s life. This process may include: •
Preparing and filing the official death certificate

Scheduling the services and events (including the location, date, and time)
•
Selecting a casket, urn, or other products you may need
•
Drafting an obituary
•
Arranging necessary transportation
•
Selecting pallbearers
•
Funeral or memorial services can take place at a funeral home, in a church, or even at your home. The service is a ceremony which serves to celebrate, honor, and remember the life of the deceased. Whether traditional or unique, both the visitation and the funeral service can be personalized to reflect the individuality of your loved one.

Graveside, chapel, or committal services are held at the cemetery, and allow family and friends to be present as their loved one is transferred to his or her final disposition.

Cremation Services The biggest misconception about cremation is that there can’t be a funeral service or visitation. This is absolutely not the case, and we encourage you to consider holding a memorial service to celebrate the life of your loved one as well. There are many options open to you when it comes to honoring your loved one’s life, including the option to have your loved one’s body present at the visitation and/or service. After the cremation and memorial services, there are a variety of choices for your loved one’s final disposition: •
Interment means that you’ll bury or entomb your loved one’s cremated remains. This can be in a family plot, a memorial site, a cremation niche or urn garden, or in a variety of other indoor and outdoor locations. Ask our staff for a detailed list of interment possibilities.
•
Graveside services are similar to those celebrated alongside a traditional ground burial, in which loved ones are present at the burial of the cremated remains and honor the deceased through memorial prayers or other meaningful tributes.
•
Scattering allows you to spread your loved one’s cremated remains in a memorial garden, a cemetery, over water, or across any other meaningful site. You also can choose to scatter some of the cremated remains and retain the rest in an urn for interment or another form of disposition.
•
Placing cremated remains in multiple urns allows family members who are separated by distance to each feel the comfort of having their loved one’s final resting place in a nearby location.

Service Options
Planning a funeral service can be a very difficult process for families who have just lost a loved one. But it’s important to provide those who are grieving with a supportive environment in which they can begin to find closure, say goodbye, and come to terms with the loss. Gathering with friends and family gives everyone the opportunity to connect, share memories, offer words of sympathy, and create a lasting network of comfort and support as they start the journey toward healing.
Burial Services There are different services that you can choose for a loved one’s burial, depending upon your individual needs and preferences: •
Immediate burial means that your loved one will be buried or entombed without a public service or gathering.

Visitation, also called a viewing, wake, or calling hours, allows family and friends to gather in a room with the departed loved one in an open or closed casket and say goodbye or offer their support and sympathy to the bereaved.

Prepayment generally means that you save money
by being protected from inflation and price changes. We deposit all prepayments into an insurance
policy where it remains until needed. Prepaying also provides peace of mind for your family, who won’t
have to figure out your funeral expenses when the time comes.
