Jon Bernstein — leader in financial services, community advocate, sports fan — we are proud to confer upon you today the honorary degree of Doctor of Commercial Science.
Your work lifts up the institutions you serve, and your volunteer efforts bring strength to the communities in which you tackle big, thorny problems. At PNC, the nation’s sixth largest bank, you are the top regional executive in New England. You’ve expanded the bank’s presence and built a team passionate about the work you do and the community in which that work is embedded. You’ve grown the bank’s engagement with the community, expanded its volunteer efforts, and perhaps most poignantly, helped thousands in our region to achieve their financial goals. You practice kindness in your approach to work and consistently demonstrate to your teams the importance of putting the client first.
But your efforts toward positive outcomes and success go well beyond the office. You chair the Massachusetts Business Roundtable, where you bring people together to tackle affordability and economic uncertainty so businesses and communities can thrive. You co-chair the Massachusetts Early Childhood Coalition, a group of business leaders advocating for policies and programs that make early childcare and education more available to Massachusetts workers. You are a board member of the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce, where you help amplify the local business community, and the Head of the Charles Regatta, promoting the great sport of rowing. And you somehow also manage to co-host a podcast, PNC C-Speak: The Language of Executives, and cheer on Boston’s sports teams.
Today we offer our deep admiration for all that you have accomplished, from the boardroom to the podcast studio and beyond.
Therefore, by virtue of the authority vested by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts on the Bentley University Board of Trustees, we confer upon you, Jon Bernstein, the degree of Doctor of Commercial Science, honoris causa. We hold it both a pleasure and an honor to do so.
