2024 Bentley University Orientation Leader (OL) Position Description The office of Orientation and Student Onboarding is seeking highly motivated, enthusiastic, positive students, with an attention to detail, who are looking to enhance their leadership skills by serving as role models, guides and mentors for new students and families at Bentley University. All orientation staff will lead with our Bentley Core Values and be: • Professional • Globally minded • Comfortable leading conversations, activities, and ice breakers • A team player • Excited to execute programming • Flexible • Inclusive and committed to the Department’s Social Justice Action Plan Orientation Leaders (OLs) are responsible for helping welcome all new falcons to our diverse Bentley University Community. OLs must be knowledgeable of university resources and the various opportunities available to incoming students. OLs will be assigned to a group of new students (including first-year, transfer, and exchange students) to mentor during the Orientation Program and beyond. It will be the responsibility of the OLs to: • Create an inclusive community and a sense of belonging within their groups through icebreakers and group meetings • Lead new students to sessions, facilitate small group conversations, fill any downtime in the program schedule, and be the primary resource throughout the new student transition. • Execute various operational tasks (based on individual abilities). Every OL plays an essential role in the onboarding process, the Orientation Program, as well as throughout the first semester as new students adjust to life as a Bentley Falcon. Successful candidates will participate in a robust training to develop and enhance the skills and knowledge necessary to support the new students. Please be advised that there may be other duties as assigned. Team members must be available for training and program execution. 2024 Commitments • Orientation Team Spring Retreat- Early April • Student Leader Pre-Summer Meeting- April 26th • Virtual Summer Meeting—TBD in July • Team Training—Please plan to be available starting August 18th through the Orientation program which is tentatively August 29th- - September 2nd, 2024. Failure to participate in any of the above sessions will result in termination of offer (unless approved in advance by Kenny Allard or Caroline Horne). *Providing a welcoming environment for all new and future falcons is important, and we may request your help at programs such as Admitted Students Day. August Dates: • If I am a residential student, move in will be on Monday, August 19, 2024. • In training/program sessions from Monday, August 19th-Monday, September 2nd. *If you are not planning to live on campus you must provide a copy of your lease or plan to show proof of housing throughout the orientation training and program time period. University housing will not be provided, but meals will be provided for team members.
