The Inauguration of Our Eighth President

Dr. Alison Davis Blake This past month, the Bentley community experienced a full week of Inaugural events. A Century of Growth, A Future of Leadership was the theme for Dr. Davis -Blake’s inauguration as this marks a pivotal time in Bentley’s history. With Bentley University’s transition from the first century (1917—2017) and into the next century, our new President wants to focus on building Bentley to help support its students and prepare us for the rewarding careers and lives.

Throughout the week of October 15th—19th, students, staff, alumni and faculty were able to attend various events leading up to the Inauguration. There were workshops and symposiums discussing the relevance of contributing to a positive organization, as well as various receptions and a tree planting ceremony.

The tree symbolizes the linking of Bentley’s proud foundation with a promise of a bright and academically strong future. The week ended with the Inauguration of Alison Davis-Blake, which was held in the L.E.E.D Platinum Bentley Arena.

The Bentley Community is excited to see where President Dr. Davis-Blake will take this University in the coming years.

Falcons in Flight Welcoming new Falcons is Flex’s specialty. He wants to see what all of you are up to prior to your arrival on campus.

Help him get to know you by participating in our photo contest over the next few months.

In order to participate, you must take a picture of something that you are doing over the next few months to prepare for your time at Bentley. Use the hashtag: #Falconsinflight.

A winner will be selected in January and will be featured on our Instagram @WelcomeFalcons.

Campus Housing Starting a new adventure may seem daunting to many, but it is also exciting!

Housing may be one of the larger sources of your anxiety, but it doesn’t have to be. In order to best prepare for move-in in January, make sure to read the information below and complete the Checklist in your New Student Guide!

The 2018–2019 Housing & Meal Plan Contract and First Year Housing Application is now available as an ‘Administrative Responsibility’ on your MyBentley account.

Please read all of the information in the housing contract before you agree to it.

As you finish the housing contract, your confirmation prompt will instruct you to complete the First Year Housing Application. Both the housing/meal-plan contract and the housing application must be submitted by 4:00 PM on December 17th,

2018.

The Student Center The Student Center, located in the middle of campus, is the hub of student life. It is a place for students to study, socialize, and share a meal. Inside, you will find various places to grab a quick bite including, The 921 (our campus dining hall), Russo’s Market, Argo Tea, and Harry’s Pub. The Student Center also houses various studentfocused Bentley Offices and centers utilized by students. Here are five of the spaces we hope you check out during your time at Bentley!

The Equity Center The Equity Center provides a safe space for students who seek a more inclusive, informed, and compassionate community. This space promotes an ethos of leadership focused on social justice. The center houses two student organizations that are committed to creating change on campus: P.R.I.D.E. and Students Advocating Gender Equality (SAGE). This space also hosts a peer education group called the Equity Center Educators (ECEs).

The Spiritual Life Center The Spiritual Life Center allows students the opportunity to deepen their own faith as well as explore new traditions through a variety of programming and services. All members of the Bentley community enjoy an open invitation to this center.

The Multicultural Center The Multicultural Center supports students of color, first generation students, and their allies by providing a safe space for students to engage in dialogue about their own race and ethnicity, all the while learning about other cultures from their peers, staff, and faculty. It develops a variety of programs that are fun, interactive, and educational, which help promote inclusion and create opportunities for diverse interactions on campus.

The Center for International Students and Scholars The CISS welcomes students from over 90 countries each year and is the central hub for international students. This center assists students with any questions they may have regarding VISA’s and their immigration status. Additionally, the CISS supports students as they adjust to life at Bentley; its goal is to ensure that all students feel comfortable in the Bentley community.

The Bubble The Bubble is a space that is constantly being utilized by students. It is a study area with many places for students to work, including group study rooms. The Bubble serves as an area designed for interactive and collaborative work.

StrengthsFinder Discover your talents From the time students first step foot on campus, the importance of knowing their Top 5 strengths is emphasized and encouraged.

The Clifton StrengthsFinder is a Web-Based assessment that all Bentley students are required to take. StrengthsFinder helps students identify what comes naturally to them and allows them to be their best every day.

Bentley is committed to developing students who are prepared to lead great lives. Throughout your Bentley experience, you will have an opportunity to participate in various strengths-based leadership roles, programs, and initiatives. We want to provide you a space to practice what you do well.

Before you arrive on campus, you will complete the StrengthsFinder Assessment. During your time at Bentley, you will have the chance to explore your Top 5 Strengths. We will give you the tools you need in order to best articulate your talents and experiences.

When students embrace their strengths, they are able to identify and create an environment that will allow them to be more engaged and productive in their careers.

Bentley Dining Technology The Bite App and MyDtxt This past year, Bentley integrated new technology within its dining services to improve student convenience and satisfaction. These new technologies include the Bite App and MyDtxt texting service.

Bite is a free app that can be downloaded in the App Store or Google Play Store. Students primarily use this app to check the status of the 921 menu no matter where they are on campus. For each menu item, students can receive feedback on the meal’s nutritional value and potential allergens. Additionally, students can customize this app to filter for desired menus, allergens and nutritional content.

MyDtxt is a new way of receiving exclusive, valuable promotions and giving Bentley Dining feedback. It’s as easy as sending a text to your friend! To sign up, all you do is text “Bdiningcomments” to 82257. Once you have joined the texting service, you can text the folks at Bentley dining any time!

Get prepared for registration!

The Office of the Registrar and Academic Services will assist you with registering for your fall courses. Your registration process will be conducted online, with academic advisors available to assist you. A reminder that all new students are assigned a specific registration date, but all students should attend the Registration Webinars:

 First Year Student Registration Webinar is on Wednesday, November 7, 2018 at 10:00 am. ET  Transfer Students Registration Webinar is on Friday, January 4, 2019 at 10:00 am ET *You must sign up for these webinars on the last slide of Online Orientation.
