A Grand Opening for the Next Generation

The Bentley Arena This past February, Bentley University’s new Multipurpose Arena opened its doors for the first time to a sold-out crowd. The Falcons D1 Men’s Hockey Team took on the visiting rival Black Knights of Army West Point while current students, faculty, staff, and alumni filled the stands. The 76,000 square-foot facility, which houses 1,917 seats with a second floor standing room concourse area, created an electrifying atmosphere for players and spectators alike. Although Bentley was unable to come away with a victory, the Bentley community has never been more excited for the Arena’s bright future.

Since its opening, the Arena has hosted two additional hockey games, a comedy show featuring Let’s

Make A Deal host Wayne Brady, an inspirational speech by Orange is the New Black star Laverne Cox, and Bentley’s Annual Spring Day Concert (see page 5). Outside of these events, the Arena also held its first Student “Free-Skate” event, where students had the opportunity to rent or use their own skates as they glided along the ice.

While the Arena will continue to serve as the main centerpiece of entertainment on campus, it was also recently awarded LEED Platinum certification for its healthy, highly efficient and cost saving green features. This award is the U.S. Green Building Council’s highest recognition and honor, making Bentley’s Arena the first standalone ice arena in the country to achieve this level of sustainability! The sustainable features and aspects are being incorporated into Bentley’s Natural and Applied Science classes for educational purposes.

Campus Housing Starting a new adventure may seem daunting to many, but it is also exciting!

Housing may be one of the larger sources of your anxiety, but it doesn’t have to be. In order to best prepare for campus move-in in August, make sure to read the information below and complete the Checklist in your New Student Guide!

The 2018–2019 Housing & Meal Plan Contract and First-year Housing Application is now available as an ‘Administrative Responsibility’ on your MyBentley account.

Please read all of the information in the housing contract before you agree to it.

As you finish the housing contract, your confirmation prompt will instruct you to complete the First-year Housing Application. Both the housing/meal-plan contract and the housing application must be submitted by 4:00 PM on Wednesday, June

27th, 2018.

The Student Center The Student Center, located in the middle of campus, is the hub of student life. It is a place for students to study, socialize, and share a meal. Inside, you will find various places to grab a quick bite including The 921 (our campus dining hall), Russo’s Market, Argo Tea, and Harry’s Pub. The Student Center also houses various offices and centers utilized by Bentley students. Here are five of the spaces we hope you check out during your time at Bentley!

The Equity Center The Equity Center provides a safe space for students who seek a more inclusive, informed, and compassionate community. This space promotes an ethos of leadership focused on social justice. The center houses two student organizations that are committed to creating change on campus: P.R.I.D.E. and Students Advocating Gender Equality (SAGE). This space also hosts a peer education group called the Equity Center Educators (ECEs).

The Spiritual Life Center The Spiritual Life Center allows students the opportunity to deepen their own faith as well as explore new traditions through a variety of programming and services. All members of the Bentley community enjoy an open invitation to this center.

The Multicultural Center The Multicultural Center supports students of color, first generation students, and their allies by providing a safe space for students to engage in dialogue about their own race and ethnicity, all the while learning about other cultures from their peers, staff, and faculty. It develops a variety of programs that are fun, interactive, and educational, which help promote inclusion and create opportunities for diverse interactions on campus.

The Center for International Students and Scholars The CISS welcomes students from over 90 countries each year and is the central hub for international students. This center assists students with any questions they may have regarding VISA’s and their immigration status. Additionally, the CISS supports students as they adjust to life at Bentley; its goal is to ensure that all students feel comfortable in the Bentley community.

The Bubble The Bubble is a space that is constantly utilized by students. It is a study area with many places for students to work, including group study rooms. The Bubble serves as an area designed for interactive and collaborative work.

StrengthsFinder

Discover your talents From the time students first step foot on campus, the importance of knowing their Top 5 strengths is emphasized and encouraged.

The Clifton StrengthsFinder is a Web-Based assessment that all Bentley students are required to take. StrengthsFinder helps students identify what personality attributes come naturally to them and allows them to be their best every day, both in and out of the classroom.

Bentley is committed to developing students who are prepared to lead great lives. Throughout your Bentley experience, you will have an opportunity to participate in various Strengths-based leadership roles, programs, and initiatives. We want to provide you a space to practice what you do well.

Before you arrive on campus, you will complete the StrengthsFinder Assessment. During your time at Bentley, you will have the chance to explore your Top 5 Strengths in more depth. We will give you the tools you need in order to best articulate your talents and experiences. When students embrace their strengths, they are able to identify and create an environment that will allow them to be more engaged and productive in their careers.

Spring Day A Bentley Tradition and Celebration Each spring, Bentley students celebrate the end of the academic year with a fun day of activities, culminating into a concert during the late afternoon. Students often look forward to this day from the moment they step onto campus in the fall. This past spring, the Bentley community celebrated Spring Day on April 28th centered around the theme of Legendary: Legends Never Die.

As a part of the tradition, Students woke up as early as 7am in anticipation of the festivities and concert.

After having breakfast in The 921, students headed down to Lower Campus to hang out in the many lounge areas that were set up for them to enjoy. Eventually, students made their way to the line of food trucks next to the field hockey field and tents near the baseball diamond. The delicious food included everything from cheeseburger sliders to mac and cheese bites.

When students were not relaxing and eating, they participated in an assortment of activities: rock climbing, bumper cars, getting lost in ball pits, singing karaoke, taking pictures in photo booths, playing mini-golf, along with other backyard games!

Once late afternoon hit, students got their Legendary swag apparel and walked on over to the Arena. The day ended with dynamic performances from Vince Staples and the Grammy nominated artist SZA. As always, Spring Day was a amazing way to cap off the end of the school year!

Get prepared for registration!

The Office of the Registrar and Academic Services will assist you with registering for your fall courses. Your registration process will be conducted online, with academic advisors available to assist you. A reminder that all new students are assigned a specific registration date, but all students should attend the Registration Webinars:
