My Bentley Journey

I was excited to finally be on my own after my mom left me in my dorm. But, I felt like a deer in the headlights. Here I was free to do whatever, but had no idea where to start. I didn’t know who to talk to, what to say, or even where to start. Before getting accepted, I had previously been to the Multicultural Center

Bentley’s Multicultural Center (MCC): Located on the 3rd floor of the Student Center, Bentley’s MCC is a center dedicated to creating a diverse and inclusive campus community. To do this, the MCC hosts a myriad of programs, workshops and events. Click on the MCC’s logo to the right for more information.

Your Voice Matters During my third year of college, I started getting involved a little with public speaking. I was lucky enough to share my story to the 2017 incoming freshmen class and a lot of my upperclassmen peers. I got that opportunity again when I was asked to speak at Bentley’s first Diversity Parade. I was honored to have the opportunity to speak in front of all those people, but what I realized while speaking was how much my words resonated with the people in the crowd and the good conversation that followed after. I’ve always had an activist mindset, but in this particular moment, I didn’t feel like I was fighting alone. Students and faculty understood what I had expressed in my speech, and were willing to continue fighting to make a change. I could tell by the speeches and support that Bentley was on my side for that fight.

Your Bentley Experience Lastly, I want to remind you that college is a place for growth. I came in planning to be a whole new person freshmen year. I was going to leave my past behind and become this extreme social butterfly. However, while that worked for some time, it wasn’t who I was. You don’t have to come to college and do a complete 180. Rather, what you do have to do is keep an open mind. By keeping an open mind and experiencing new things, college will be a high to your highs and lows.

Disability Services Bentley accommodates the academic needs of all of its students.

Bentley’s Office of Disability Services works with all students who have a diagnosed disability and need academic accommodations in the classroom. This office specializes in working with students who have learning disabilities, Attention Deficit/ Hyperactivity Disorder, psychological, medical, and physical disabilities. If you have a diagnosed disability and have received any academics accommodations, Disability Services asks that you consider registering with their office before the start of classes. It is only after you complete this registration process that you will have access to these accommodations. In order to register, you must send in your medical documentation, your accommodation plan (IEP, 504 Plan), if you have one, as well as any documentation from SAT or ACT approving accommodations. They will then walk you through the process of requesting and receiving accommodations here at Bentley!

The Bentley Arena Makes History!

First Standalone Ice Arena to Reach LEED Platinum Status The Bentley University Arena finished construction in February of 2018, and shortly afterwards, it earned the LEED Platinum certification.

This is the highest possible rating for a building to obtain, according to the U.S. Green Building Council.

Bentley University and it’s community members highly value sustainability, and are all proud of this accomplishment. Amanda King, director of Sustainability at Bentley, shares that the “combination of the rooftop solar technology and energy-efficient mechanical design, the overall grid energy required to power the arena will be less than half of what it would take to power a building of a similar size.”

The Arena hosts many events, including our Division I Ice Hockey games, career fairs, concerts, and high-profile speakers. Last semester, Bentley students got the chance to attend events starring guest speaker Laverne Cox and comedian Wayne Brady, as well as the Spring Day concert featuring Vince Staples and SZA. Culture Fest Wrap Up! A Bentley Tradition of Learning and Discovery The Bentley community came together during the week of November 12th—16th and created an experience like no other. With over a dozen different events to attend, students, faculty and staff members were able to learn about the many cultures that make up Bentley University.

student Residential Assistants. In the middle of the week, Professor Goldberg lead a session on “The Politics of World Design”, and the Library hosted the “GEOGuessr Party” computer trivia game.

The week ended with three major events, and student favorites: Food Fest, Drag Bingo, and the Diwali Celebration. Students are able to try new ethnic foods from all the cultural orgs at Bentley, while enjoying great music and positive vibes. Drag Bingo is a much anticipated annual event that PRIDE hosts and it really showcases the celebration of self-expression and individuality. There were guest appearances from many regional drag queens, as well as the famous Aja, and Bentley’s own Shenita D! Friday night concluded the week with SASA’s (South Asian Student Association) annual Diwali Celebration, Scooby Doo style.

This year’s Culture Fest featured a variety of different programs that allowed the Bentley Students to embrace the different cultures represented on our campus and celebrate their traditions.

Your Falcon ID From the minute you arrive in January, your Falcon ID will be your key to getting around campus. In order to be eligible to receive your ID on MoveIn Day, you must upload your own Bentley ID photo.
