Academic Tech Session Facilitation Guide

Background of Session:

Students must understand the technology used on campus so they can use these resources for academic success and everyday activities on campus As non-first-year students it is important for us to put ourselves back in the first-year shoes when we were going through our first few days on campus and what it was like using so many different apps and systems

How you can receive a supplemental computer:

• Loaner computers may be borrowed for up to 3 hours if you forget your laptop.

• You may borrow an iphone or Android phone charger for up to 3 hours

• If your laptop was purchased through the Bentley Purchase Portal (Micros Northeast) and you are having it repaired at Bentley you can receive a loaner while your laptop is in for repair.

How to avoid scams on mass emails:

• Regular phishing exercises are sent to the Bentley community to raise awareness

• If something is sent to you from an unknown source, don’t click on it (look at the email address, especially if it is from outside of Bentley, not just the person's name).

• If you think something is wrong about any email (typos, weird email addresses, etc) don’t click on it, and report it to spam and send to phishbowl@bentley.edu or contact the Help Desk if you are unsure

Xfinity on Campus:

For residential students while you are on campus, you can receive live direct TV to your computers that you could hook up to your TV and watch from there as well. Emphasize that this feature is FREE!

• Must be on eduroam Wi-Fi to print

• Provided $40/semester in print funds ($.05/page BW, $.25 Color)

Hosting Zoom Calls:

• Can be used for online collaboration and video conferencing

• Access Zoom from MyBentley: bentley.zoom.us

• Sign in using your Bentley email and password

• Open periodically to run updates prior to your meeting

• Verify audio and video are working before meetings

• Authenticator: Download Authenticator and Connect to your Bentley email account. This will allow you

• LaundryConnect: Download LaundryConnect. Make an account with your Bentley email and password. Connect your bank account. Show students how to see your particular dorm hall.

• TransLoc: This app is helpful to inform you of where the Bentley and Harvard shuttles are and what time they will be arriving. The Bentley shuttle runs continuously throughout the day on weekdays and is shut down on weekends. While the Harvard shuttle leaves Bentley at the :30 mark and arrives in Harvard at the :00.

o On mobile device

▪ Download the app → sign in using “Bentley Faculty, Staff and Students” (will need to use the authenticator app)

• EMS: This is helpful for room bookings in the student center, library, other spaces on campus you may need for future organizations and clubs you join, etc.

o On Computer

▪ Go to https://www.bentley.edu/mybentley → Click EMS located in middle column → Click “Welcome Guest” in top right corner → On sign in page use the “click here” link to sign in → from here you can select which locations you would like to book

▪ Helpful tips!! Make sure the date and times are accurate when booking a room. To have a visual of the open space throughout the day click “Schedule after selecting a specific building

o On Mobile Device

Remember it might be helpful to give your Baby Falcs time to download these apps and then you can physically walk them through the application on how to use each individual one of them.
