Meet Ms. Edna
It was July 2012 when Ms. Edna Lewis James started working here at Fort Benning MWR, but her years of civil service add up to more than 45. Today you can find her at the Milton E. Long Library in the Technical Services Office where she has a reputation for great service.
Originally from Tallahassee, Florida, Ms. Edna is thankful for the opportunities she’s had to experience civil servant roles around the world as a military spouse, but says she’s done putting down roots and has no plans to leave the Columbus area. Her biggest accomplishment is the rearing of her children who share the generational trait of helping others. Her faith is what inspires her to continue to serve. She’s almost retired four times now, but she loves continuing to learn and isn’t quite ready to leave. We’re not complaining about it, either!

Ms. Edna started out at the library’s circulation desk, but she does “a little bit of everything” and truly enjoys it! If you ever get the opportunity to meet her, you’ll learn right away that she’s the true definition of a “people person.” When asked what her favorite part of her job was, her answer reflected just that: the people. “I love going above and beyond to help people and help make their daypeople never forget how you make them feel.”
She says that people often look at her crazy when she declares “I LOVE MY JOB!” She explains, “it doesn’t matter how hard the job is, I enjoy what I do - helping people. Making people happy makes me happy.” So, the next time you head over to the library to check out a book, pop in for weekly storytime or utilize the printers, be sure to head up to the second floor and say hi to Ms. Edna’s smiling face awaiting your visit.
