LETTER FROM DIRECTOR I often hear Soldiers and family members comment that they love it here at Benning. I hear others remark that their favorite duty station is elsewhere. Regardless of how you feel about Benning, I hope this spring you’ll take advantage of all the services and recreational opportunities we offer. Whether it’s going to one of our four fitness centers, grabbing a quick healthy lunch at Java Café, practicing your marksmanship at our Recreational Shooting Complex or joining Outdoor Recreation to kayak the Chattahoochee, we have something that interests almost everyone. Fort Benning Family and MWR is known for putting on some of the best special events in the Army. Of course in 2020, we had to cancel many of our large events, but challenged my team to come up with a way of providing spectacular events while keeping you safe. I have very talented and creative team members, so I have no doubt you will be impressed with what they come up with.

Our Independence Celebration regularly attracts 20,000+ for an afternoon filled with food, fun and the largest most spectacular fireworks show in the Southeast! We plan to conduct a Celebration this year that may look a little different from years past, but will ensure we as a community celebrate our nation’s independence, one of the most spectacular and important traditions in our country.

Whether you’re stationed in the Pacific Northwest, the Southeast or overseas, one thing remains true – Army Outdoor Recreation strives to provide abundant outdoor services and activities for military families! With the ringing of 2021, Army Family and MWR is celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Army Outdoor Recreation. In celebration of such a monumental milestone, Fort Benning Family & MWR will be guiding local patrons all summer long through services and resources offered by Outdoor Recreation, so you can start planning for your next outdoor adventure. HIKE + WALK + RUN One of our favorite hiking spots in Southwest Georgia, often known as the Little Grand Canyon, is Providence Canyon State Park – only 30 miles south of Fort Benning! Our Outdoor Recreation team leads several day hikes in this vibrant canyon throughout the year, so be sure to save your spot for the next one. Fortunately, you don’t have to travel 30 miles to find hiking trails here at Fort Benning. The Downing Mile, often used for physical training sessions, offers a scenic dirt trail with broad elevation changes through the woods and along the Chattahoochee River.
Dixie Road, and the Riverwalk, starting just east of the intersection of Baltzell Avenue and Miller Loop. Although only a small portion of the Riverwalk feeds into Fort Benning, you can continue onto the Riverwalk north towards Columbus to discover a network of over 30 miles of trail, perfect for bike rides. In need of a bike? Outdoor Recreation Equipment Resource Center has a wide selection available for rent for men, women and children!
If you’re seeking to get your miles in on an easier grade trail, consider the paved trails across Fort Benning, including the Patton Recreation trails, roadside trails and the Riverwalk. The Follow Me Fitness Trail is also a popular spot. Although it’s not paved, it offers easier terrain, fitness stations and a chance to spot wildlife.
CAMP Whether you need a weekend under the stars or a glamping trip in one of our cozy cabins, Uchee Creek Campground & Marina is just moments away from the back gate of Fort Benning. For a more primitive camping experience, consider our secluded campsites around Kings Pond and Weems Pond near Harmony Church. You can bring your own tents and other camping supplies, or stop by Outdoor Recreation Equipment Resource Center so our staff can assist you with everything you might need.
RIDE If you’re new to the area, one of the first things you may have noticed is the strong bicycle culture present in the community. Some of our favorite bike trails on post are the mountain bike trails, which begin at the corner of 1st Division Road and
PADDLE Looking to fulfill your love for paddle sports? You’ve come to the right place! The Fort Benning and Columbus communities eat, sleep and breathe the river life. Grab your paddleboard, kayak or canoe and hop on the Chattahoochee river for a leisurely

For an easygoing afternoon on the water, Kings Pond and Twilight Pond are beautiful and spacious offering access to pavilions, boat ramps and picnic tables. FISH Pack up your fishing gear, or grab extra supplies from Outdoor Recreation Equipment Resource Center, and head out to one of Fort Benning’s ponds for a morning on the water. Russ, Twilight, Kings, Weems & Victory Ponds all offer a variety of fish for new and experienced anglers alike. PLAY The Fort Benning Golf Course, first established in 1923, is rich in military history. The course is located on Main Post, about one mile from I-185, and is a full-service facility open to the public. Our newest addition to the golf course greens is Patton Recreation Area, featuring 18-hole disc and foot
golf courses. You can easily walk these courses or rent a cart from the Golf Pro Shop. Need some gear to start your game? The Golf Pro Shop and Outdoor Recreation Equipment Resource Center have all the equipment you’ll need to get started on your next round of golf, disc golf or foot golf! WARRIOR ADVENTURE QUEST This is for all the Active Duty Soldiers on Fort Benning! Warrior Adventure Quest (WAQ) is an Army RESET training tool designed to introduce Soldiers to activities that serve as alternatives to aberrant behaviors often associated with accidents involving recently re-deployed Soldiers. This tool presents coping outlets to help Soldiers realize their own new level of normal after deployment and “move on” with their lives. WAQ combines existing MWR Outdoor Recreation high adventure activities with a leader-led after action debriefing tool developed by Army Medical Department Center and School.

ACS is offering Soldier and Family Readiness Group (SFRG) trainings for the Fort Benning Community. A SFRG is a command sponsored organization of family members, volunteers, soldiers, and civilian employees belonging to a unit, that together offer a corridor of mutual support and assistance. The SFRG network provides direct communication among the family members, chain of command and community members. SFRG Foundations Essentials course provides information on maintaining a successful SFRG, time management and team building. Informal Funds training is designed for SFRG Leaders, Treasurers, and Command Teams that will manage SFRG funds. Information includes authority, restrictions, reporting requirements and fundraising policies. SFRG Foundations Training: every 3rd Thursday of the month. SFRG Informal Funds Training: every 4th Thursday of each month. Command Team Training: every 2nd Thursday of each month. Registration is required and space is limited. Join the ACS Financial Readiness Team during Military Saves Month, April 1-30 promoting automatic savings, wealth building, and debt reduction for the entire military community! As part of Military Saves Month, the Fort Benning ACS Financial Readiness Program is spreading the message of successful and automatic savings… Start Small, Think Big! As a first step, we encourage the entire military community to take the Military Saves Pledge at MilitarySaves.org, a commitment to begin the journey toward financial freedom and the first step in creating a personal spending plan. Our ACS financial counselors are ready to help you take the next step! We offer budget and debt reduction counseling, as well as classes on a variety of personal financial topics. The ACS Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP) partners with The Parent to Parent Program to provide webinar trainings of different important subjects in support of military parents whose families may be impacted by disabilities or special healthcare needs. Better Opportunities for Single Soldiers Fort Benning Better Opportunities for Single Soldiers (BOSS) is offering 4 days of unforgettable experiences with ‘BOSS Week 2021.” BOSS Week 2021 will be March 22-25 and is open to all BOSS eligible Soldiers on Fort Benning. The week will feature various events such as bowling, trap shooting, a gaming tournament, paintball and the best – beat the Garrison CSM at PT! The Milton E. Long Library offers Soldiers and their families countless resources. The facility is equipped with free wireless internet, 77 CAC-enabled desktop computers, printing capabilities and thousands of DVDs and CDs. Our research and reference resources are second to none, and our librarians are always happy to help. The library also has a children’s section and teen space, in addition to the ongoing programs and book clubs for each member of family to enjoy. If you are looking for resources after hours or in the comfort of your own home, Army MWR Libraries are only a click of a button away! Army MWR Library offers test preparation and references online for military and civilian courses. There are also homeschooling guides, over 30,000 awardwinning films and documentaries, and legal resources all available. The future prosperity of any community depends on its ability to foster the health and well-being of the next generation. Yet, when not all children have equal opportunity for healthy growth and development — due to experiences of child abuse and neglect — we put our future at risk. Together we can make a difference year-round through small acts that help protect children. When you call to report suspected abuse or neglect, the responder will ask for identifying information. Although those reports can be made anonymously, the contact information of the reporting person is almost always collected for follow-up purposes. Here are the steps that follow a report: • Initial screening: The responder will assess the immediate safety and welfare of the child. If Child Protective Services learns that the call involves a military family, they will often contact the installation Family Advocacy Program (FAP). If FAP receives your call, they will call the appropriate Child Protective Services office. • Installation involvement: When FAP receives a report, they will first make a plan to ensure the immediate safety and well-being of the child. FAP will notify the commander of the child’s active-duty parent, law enforcement, the Medical Treatment Facility and Child Protective Services. These key players work as a team to ensure that children are protected, and the family receives the services needed to build and maintain healthy family relationships. FAP

It’s Georgia Pre-K Time! The Georgia Pre-K Program is a lottery funded educational program for Georgia’s four year olds to prepare them for kindergarten. For the 2021-2022 school year, Fort Benning is fortunate to have Georgia Pre-K classrooms located within the following CYS facilities: 1st Division CDC, McGraw CDC, and Santé Fe CDC. Georgia Pre-K is a hugely popular program and space is limited so a lottery system was established, CYS received 88 slots for this school year. FAMILY CHILD CARE
The Family Child Care (FCC) program is an integral part of the Child and Youth Services (CYS) child care system available on Army garrisons. FCC provides quality home based care for children 4 weeks to 12 years and is offered in government owned and government leased housing located on post. FCC has unique qualities that make it a preferred choice for many families. It offers flexible hours: full day, part day, extended/overnight, weekend and hourly care in a comfortable home setting. FCC also offers a 15 percent cost savings compared to Child Development Centers and School Age Care fees. FCC Providers are vetted and only the best qualified candidates are recommended for certification. Providers must complete background checks and regular home inspections as a part of certification. They also receive paid ongoing training for professional development. Army policy requires anyone providing care on a regular basis for more than 10 hours per week, must be certified through Child and Youth Services as a FCC provider. Providing unauthorized child care in government owned/leased housing puts you at risk of losing your housing privileges. Unauthorized child care by an uncertified person puts your child at risk. MARSHALL HOUSE AND MCIVER SUITES LODGING The McIver Suites are still closed for renovations. We hope that our renovations will help make your future stay a better experience. McIver Suites, located on McIver Road, is made up of 10 suites. We offer one bedroom and two bedroom a c c o m m o d a t i o n s . Re n ova t i o n s include: updates to all bathrooms (new plumbing fixtures and expansion of size); repair and remodel of kitchens in each unit (expanded space, new cabinets, finishes, plumbing and appliances); and modernizing flooring, baseboards and lighting in each unit. This project will last until the end of 2020. Once complete, each unit will feature an open concept with new flooring, appliances, kitchens and bathrooms. Marshall House: The Marshall House is a classic, two-story structure on the corner of 1st Division Road and Baltzell Avenue, just off Dixie Road on Fort Benning. This home is named after the famous WWII and post-war Soldier and statesman, General George C. Marshall. The Marshall House is a perfect venue for wedding photos and/or parties, graduations and general entertaining. This spacious 4,000plus square foot structure has 3 spacious bedrooms, 2.5 baths and a pleasant sun room off the master bedroom. All bedrooms have cable TV and plenty of dresser space for long stays. McIver Suites: Just a short walk from the Fort Benning Golf Course is a row of five two-story duplexes called the McIver Suites. Each of the 10 units has a living room, kitchen and mud room. This beloved MWR facility sits on the banks of the Chattahoochee on the Alabama side of Fort Benning. Uchee Creek offers cabins, chalets, park homes and campsites. Rates are available for daily, weekly, monthly and long-term reservations. Laundromats, a swimming pool, children’s playgrounds and our recreational fuel pumps are some of our most popular features. Furry friends are welcome on our grounds and we have additional pet friendly amenities! Please note, pet fees, weight/breed restrictions may apply. Call 706-545-4053 for more information. If you want to take the family or scouts camping, enjoy our 385-acre park. RV and tent sites are available for you to enjoy. Campsites are equipped with full hook-ups (30 and 50 AMP), water, sewer, electric and cable. Fishing boats and kayak rentals are also available through the Uchee Creek Country Store. If you are in search of more outdoor adventure, Uchee Creek offers softball fields, basketball courts, volleyball courts and a paintball field. A variety of hiking and walking trails are also accessible. Don’t be a couch potato, head outdoors today! Uchee Creek accommodations are open to military ID card holders and families. You can clean just about anything at the Main Post Laundromat, including your TA-50! We have 81 heavy duty washers and 54 dryers available for Soldiers and their families. You won’t ever have to carry a pocketful of quarters with our laundry card, or you can pay with cash or credit card. The more you use the post laundromat, the more free credit you earn on your card! CAR WASH
Does your car need some TLC? Drop by one of our three car wash locations (Main Post, next to Commissary and on Harmony Church) and spoil her! We offer cloth-and-water wash or touchfree water wash. The touch-free $8 option at the MWR car washes includes treatments for the undercarriage, windshield and sidewalls and a hot wax. The self-serve bays have a popular tire shine option. Don’t forget to take advantage of our multi-faceted vacuums, which feature spot remover, carpet cleaner, turbo and super modes.
DOG WASH
Attached to the Main Post Car Wash is our do-it-yourself, climate controlled dog wash. You may use your credit card or the reloadable MWR Car Wash Card for washing, drying, and flea and tick bathing options. Open 24/7.
DOG PARKS
MWR has two dog parks on Main Post, one on the corner of Edwards and Carpenter Streets and another on the corner of Zuckerman Avenue and 1st Division Road. MWR dog parks are managed by Outdoor Recreation and include agility playground equipment. Spaces are divided into two areas, one for dogs up to 25 pounds and one for larger dogs. Guests are legally responsible for their dog’s behavior.

You asked, we listened, and our 5K Fun Run series is back with an even better medal as the previous years! Register today for either one run or for all.
September 2 at 7 p.m. | Beat the Sun Run 5K
and under. Don’t wait, don’t hesitate! Register in advance to guarantee yourself a t-shirt; limited to the first 250 registered participants. Day of registration prices increase by $5. Stroller friendly routes are available for our 5K runs. Registration for 5K Series will open February 1 and you can only register for one race at a time. When registering you will get to choose your timeslot (first come, first serve). Each timeslot will hold 25 participants and they run every 3 minutes.

LIFEGUARD CLASS
We offer a 2-year lifeguard certification, which includes the American Red Cross Certification, lifeguarding, first aid, CPR and AED, for MWR patrons 15 and older. American Red Cross lifeguarding students must be at least 15 years old by the last day of class, and pass a pre-course swimming skills test prior to taking our course. Once students are enrolled, they’ll receive the latest science-based training from experienced instructors, and develop skills they’ll use for a lifetime. Call 706-545-1400 for more information. FIRST AID, CPR AND AED CLASS We offer a 2-year American Red Cross Certification (valid from the date of course completion). This is a 7-hour class, 60 minute lunch break. Upon successfully participating in all course activities and passing the Final Written Assessment with at least a 80 percent, the participant will receive certificate. Certification is for Adult, Child and Infant CPR, First Aid and AED. Classes will be held at Doughboy Stadium, Door #2, classes are subject to cancellation with notice.
