On behalf of the MWR family, we would like to extend our congratulations to Susan E. White who retired August 31, 2020. Susan served as the Financial Management Chief for Family and MWR here on Fort Benning. She assisted managers and directors daily throughout her 12 year tenure. Susan kept an open door policy, and was always willing to assist and instruct the FMWR family about the financial aspects of the business. Susan says, “I will miss helping others and the feeling of being needed. I will miss my work family. I’ve been through a lot since I started here.” During her retirement, Susan wants to travel and visit all the National Parks. She is purchasing a travel trailer to tote her and her dogs around the country. When she’s off the road, she plans on spending time with her two daughters, four grandchildren, dogs and fish. Finance is a large part of Susan’s life and retirement will not change that. In addition to her adventures, she also plans on growing her clients through Quickbooks online and working part time.

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE PREVENTION MONTH
October is designated as the National Domestic Violence Prevention Month (DVPM). The Fort Benning Family Advocacy Program (FAP) aims to prevent domestic violence by raising awareness about domestic violence and disseminate information about available services. Domestic abuse –also called intimate partner violence- can take many forms, including emotional, sexual and physical, and threats of abuse. Domestic violence can happen in heterosexual or same-sex relationships. In abusive relationships there is an imbalance of power and control. The abuser uses intimidating, coercive, hurtful words and behaviors to control their partner. Confidential counseling and advocacy services are available to anyone experiencing domestic abuse. There are two ways to report domestic violence. In a ‘restricted report,’ domestic violence victims can speak confidentially with a FAP victim advocate, FAP clinician or health care provider. Victims can participate in counseling, learn about available resources and receive assistance to develop a safety plan. Restricted reporting does not apply when there is immediate risk of serious harm to others or in child abuse cases. An ‘unrestricted report’ involves an official investigation through the service member’s command, FAP or local law enforcement. To reach a FAP victim advocate, call 706-545-7594 or 706-626-2614. Holiday Savings Blown?
BLEW THROUGH YOUR HOLIDAY SAVINGS DURING THE PANDEMIC? NOW WHAT? DO NOT INCUR MORE DEBT THIS HOLIDAY SEASON. Jamekka Lewis, Financial Readiness Specialist
Due to the unexpected COVID-19 pandemic, many had to tap into emergency savings and exhaust goal savings, as well, as holiday funds. The purpose of an emergency fund is to set money aside for unexpected or urgent expenditures. COVID-19 definitely fits into that category! Social distancing and shelter in place orders were an attempt to keep everyone safe during this crisis. This caused a lot of business shut downs and unemployment for some military spouses. Some were fortunate to have teleworking as an option. With schools closed and children at home for several months, utility and grocery bills were at an all time high. For many, holiday savings were the first to go. Holidays are already stressful for some due to the financial strain it puts on people to purchase gifts, especially for large families. This doesn’t have to be the case. There are many ways people can enjoy the holidays without breaking the bank. Coming out of a pandemic with the loss of many loved ones, this holiday season is the perfect time to focus on spreading love and cheer. Quality time spent together creates more valuable memories than any expensive gift can provide. Homemade DIY “do-it-yourself” gifts are a great way to show love and how much someone means to you. The time and care put in to creating a homemade picture frame is a great way to spread cheer throughout the season. Pictures play an important role in our lives; they serve as memories that people can cherish for years to come. Purchase some inexpensive wood from a craft store, or even repurpose some old wood you find, to build the frame. Decorate them with powerful words, such as “Family, love and cherish.” Insert a cherished family photo and give them to extended family members. This is inexpensive and yet a personal gift that can mean more to someone than a store-bought item. Many become overwhelmed during the holidays and use credit cards or quick fix loans to purchase gifts they don’t have the funds for. Charging just $500 on a 13% APR credit card and then paying minimum payments of $25 per month can keep a person in debt for up to 23 months or more! This leaves many paying off debts two holiday seasons later, depleting funds for future holiday gifts. The Milton E. Long Library offers Soldiers and their families countless resources. CG SCRAMBLES Join us for the Fort Benning CG Golf Scrambles September 25, October 30 and November 20. You can clean just about anything at the Main Post Laundromat, including your TA-50! We have 81 heavy duty washers and 54 dryers available for Soldiers and their families. Does your car need some TLC? Drop by one of our three car wash locations (Main Post, next to Commissary and on Harmony Church) and spoil her! We offer cloth-and-water wash or touchfree water wash. The touch-free $8 option at the MWR car washes includes treatments for the undercarriage, windshield and sidewalls and a hot wax. The self-serve bays have a popular tire shine option. DOG WASH
Attached to the Main Post Car Wash is our do-it-yourself, climate controlled dog wash. You may use your credit card or the reloadable MWR Car Wash Card for washing, drying, and flea and tick bathing options. Open 24/7.
DOG PARKS
MWR has two dog parks on Main Post, one on the corner of Edwards and Carpenter streets and another on the corner of Zuckerman Avenue and 1st Division Road. MWR dog parks are managed by Outdoor Recreation and include agility playground equipment. Spaces are divided into two areas, one for dogs up to 25 pounds and one for larger dogs. Guests are legally responsible for their dog’s behavior.

We’ll be implementing a touchless sign-in system that started with Smith Fitness Center. To access the gyms, you need an active WebTrac household account and to activate your ID card with our new system. Two forms of ID will be required to activate your ID card. There are 3 ways you can create your household: • Visit MWR WebTrac to create an account. Then visit Smith Fitness Center to have your ID card activated. • Visit Smith Fitness Center to fill out an information form. Our staff will input your information during your workout and you can activate your ID card before you leave. • Visit Smith Fitness Center and a staff member will help enter your household information and activate your ID card while you wait. Note: Account creation and ID card activation will be available at other fitness centers once the new systems become available. Instructions on how to create a household on WebTrac can be found at benning.armymwr.com. If you already have an MWR Recreation household account (commonly used for Outdoor Recreation events and pool reservations), you do not need to complete this step. We recommend accessing the WebTrac website through a desktop or laptop. Mobile devices may not be compatible. LIFEGUARD CLASS
5K RUN SERIES
We offer a 2-year lifeguard certification, October 3, 4, 10 and 11 from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. at Doughboy Stadium, which includes the American Red Cross Certification, lifeguarding, first aid, CPR and AED, for MWR patrons 15 and older. American Red Cross lifeguarding students must be at least 15 years old by the last day of class, and pass a precourse swimming skills test prior to taking our course. Once students are enrolled, they’ll receive the latest sciencebased training from experienced instructors, and develop skills they’ll use for a lifetime. Call 706-545-1400 for more information.
It’s not too late to register for the 20192020 5K Fun Run Series. The last day to register to complete the series virtually is September 30. You can register for the Bunny Run, Run to Remember and Summer Soaker Run for only $30. Are you new to the Fort Benning community? No worries! DOUGHBOY TRACK AND FIELD FIRST AID, CPR AND AED CLASS
We offer a 2-year American Red Cross Certification (valid from the date of course completion). This is a 7-hour class, held at Doughboy Stadium, 60-min lunch break. Upon successfully participating in all course activities and passing the Final Written Assessment with at least 80%, the participant will receive their certificate. Certification is for Adult, Child and Infant CPR, First Aid and AED. Classes will be held at Doughboy Stadium, Door #10, classes are subject to cancellation with notice. The Doughboy Track and Field continues undergoing renovations until spring 2021. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
1. What can I recycle? The QRP accepts many types of paper, metal and hard plastic containers for recycling. The list of what we accept and don’t accept can be found above. 2. Where can I take my recyclable material? The QRP accepts material for drop off at our regional site behind the MWR Carwash next to the Commissary (open 6 a.m. - 8 p.m. daily) or at our primary Material Recovery Facility located at BLDG M0298 on Jamestown Road (open 8 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Mon - Fri). There are recycling trailers available for drop off of material 24/7 located at MACH, Davis Hill, McGraw Village, White Elementary, Custer Road PX, BLDG 35 and the near the Subway and MWR Bingo on Main Post. We also have collection receptacles for paper in several facilities around the installation. 3. Will someone come pick up my material? The QRP is unable to do collection of the material outside of the already established containers mentioned in FAQ 2. If you work in a building that currently generates a significant amount of paper waste and do not have containers, please contact our office for a site visit and assessment to see if we are able to provide your building service in this regard. 4. Who do I call with questions? Please forward any questions to our primary phone number 706544-9870. 5. Why do we or don’t we recycle “X” on this installation? This question is a great one to hear because it comes from a concerned individual. Although we understand that there are other items able to be recycled, our QRP analyzes items on a regular basis for viability on Fort Benning and there are many factors involved in what we can and can’t process through the program. If you have an item you are curious about, please don’t hesitate to call and ask us about it. 6. Why isn’t recycling collected in housing on post? Recycling containers found in the housing units are left over from a collection agreement between housing and the city of Columbus. Efforts were made by the QRP to salvage the agreement but ultimately the city was unable to continue. We do apologize but housing is not part of the QRP collection area and we do not possess the equipment needed to collect the containers therein.
