Scree Scramble

for solo contrabass

Total Duration: ca. 4’15”

Program Note

Scree Scramble was commissioned by the Robert Black Foundation in tandem with New Music on the Point and bassist James Sullivan. “Scree” refers to loose eroded rocks on the side of a mountain, and “scrambling” is hiking/climbing using your hands and feet. This piece reflects a perilous journey on the rocks up to the top of a mountain.

• Solo tuning or jazz strings recommended for harp harmonic passages (F#-B-E-A). Sounds a whole step up.
