That’s how technology jumps ahead. That’s how every child grows and learns. It’s also how opportunities and challenges come into view.

To respond to these challenges and advance our mission, the Board of Trustees launched Leaps & Bounds: The Campaign for The Benjamin School.

Building on more than a half-century of tradition and achievement, the Board considered what was needed to springboard the school into the future.

The resulting blueprint — consisting of $28 million in capital improvements and $12 million in endowment and supplemental programs — promises to deliver the best student-centered educational experience for today and the decades ahead.

The power of strategic vision and the transformative generosity of our supporters have enabled us to move forward by leaps and bounds.

TRADITION &VISION Phase I of Leaps & Bounds: The Campaign for The Benjamin School took what was already outstanding about The Benjamin School and made it truly extraordinary. Funded by $11M in gifts to the campaign, the construction of Benjamin Hall, an 850-seat performing arts center and multi-purpose educational complex, was a historic milestone for the school.

Not only does this state-of-the-art facility provide a home for our performing arts productions, it helps foster a sense of community by allowing students in all three divisions to showcase their talents on a professional stage. Benjamin Hall hosts everything from weekly assemblies and parent meetings to the annual Variety Show and graduation ceremonies.

The expansive lobby is also a premier venue for educational forums, special gatherings and visual art exhibits.

Phase I of the campaign also provided for faculty endowments to help attract, develop and retain the best educators in the nation. Gifts to this endowment helped fund the development of improved STEM programs in all three divisions.

BUILD THE VISION The campaign’s second phase will drive Benjamin’s mission forward, providing the capital improvements and program support needed to deliver the best educational experience in the decades ahead. The proposed facilities will set TBS apart by leaps and bounds.

LEAVE A LEGACY Phase II of the campaign offers a multitude of opportunities for donor recognition. As a campaign supporter, you will have naming rights to campus structures and endowments.

Permanent campaign signage ensures that your family’s name is an integral part of Benjamin’s lasting legacy.

MAGLIO FAMILY

STEM CENTER The international STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) movement is at the core of the 21st century skill set, encouraging students to understand that no body of knowledge exists in isolation. The Maglio Family STEM Center will promote an integrated curriculum where these four important subject areas are presented in conjunction with each other.

Already a focus for students in every grade level, STEM teaching strategies will have room to grow in an inquiry-based, collaborative, laboratory setting.

The Berlin Family Foundation, led by grandparents Bill and Madeline Maglio, have contributed $2.5 million to begin making this truly one-of-a-kind facility a reality for students on our Lower/Middle School campus.

The Maglio Family STEM Center will provide maker space, labs and the tools necessary to meet the needs of our constantly expanding curriculum.

Swimming and diving have long been important components of the Buccaneer athletic program. From Olympic gold medal swimmer Ryan Berube ‘92 to Yale University recruit Anthony Mercadante ‘13, TBS swimming boasts a history of success. The addition of an aquatics center will serve to attract talent from far and wide, paving the way for the development of future world-class swimmers and divers. The facility will be large enough to host regional swimming meets, designed to meet U.S. Swimming and U.S. Diving Specs, and will also serve as a practice pool to help children learn to swim.

FIELD HOUSE More than two dozen teams currently compete for playing time on the Upper School campus. As an extension of the existing gym, a field house would eliminate this bottleneck and add three regulation basketball/volleyball courts to be used by interscholastic athletes and by students in physical education classes. The facility will offer an air-conditioned environment for athletes. The all-purpose flooring will also allow sports like cheerleading to make use of the space. Plans call for expanded locker rooms, athletic offices and strength/conditioning facilities.

The Field House will transform fitness and competitive athletics for our students.

VARSITY HOUSE This facility will make creative and highly functional use of the space between the planned aquatics center and the adjacent athletic field.

The Varsity House will support two sets of bleachers: a large set facing the athletic field and a smaller set on the pool side; a press box and two large pavilions on the upper level will offer additional space for fans to view events on

the field or in the pool. The facility will house concession stands and much-needed athletic storage space.

The Varsity House will elevate school spirit with plenty of space for Benjamin fans to cheer on the Bucs.
