US Drama Students Present ‘The Parking Lot Plays’
US DRAMA STUDENTS PRESENT
The Benjamin School theatre program and the Drama Club presented “The Parking Lot Plays” as part of their annual One Acts: Revolutions Festival on February 20 and 21. The material was curated from the first semester’s Page to Stage class of which two of the plays were named finalists for Palm Beach Dramaworks Young Playwrights Festival.
Upper School Theatre Director Jason Peck said the COVID-19 pandemic was the mother of invention.
“Knowing that we would not have access to Benjamin Hall this year, I gave our student playwrights a prompt that asked them to come up with a short, ten-minute play that takes place in a parking lot, hence ‘The Parking Lot Plays,’ ” said Peck.
Peck said seeing his students’ creativity, ingenuity, and talent in the face of a new landscape has been fun and inspiring.
“Benjamin’s young thespians are fiercely protective of the One Acts Festival, and seeing them in action it is clear why. New work and new plays are always raw and exciting to work on. These are passionate actors, passionate directors, and passionate playwrights, all collaborating and creating as one cohesive unit,” said Peck.
