La bourgeoisie montante du XIX siècle avait pris conscience qu’il lui fallait, à l’instar des aristocrates qu’elle avait remplacés, affirmer sa toute-puissance dans les Beaux-Arts afin d’afficher sa réussite et d’accroître sa propagande. e
La photographie participera à cette publicité en bouleversant les codes artistiques déjà établis. Les artistes de l’époque ont pressenti les concordances pouvant s’établir entre les différents arts et techniques. Les découvertes du chimiste Michel-Eugène Chevreul et l’invention de la photographie vont élargir les connaissances en ce domaine. Les peintres ont su profiter au maximum de ces expériences pour en user dans l’étude de la couleur. Songeons aux Impressionnistes et à leurs émules dont les démarches artistiques amèneront e l’art abstrait du XX siècle. Grâce à la technique photographique, les artistes vont appréhender l’espace d’une façon différente et la peinture va se libérer des entraves du réalisme. INTERACTION Eugène Delacroix The rising bourgeoisie of the 19th Century knew, just as the aristocrats they had replaced, that they needed to reaffirm their almighty power in the Fine Arts in order to show off their success and further their propaganda. Photography would contribute towards this by shaking up the already muchestablished artistic codes. The artists of the time sensed the similarities that may exist between various arts and techniques. Discoveries by famous chemist Michel-Eugène Chevreul and the invention of photography would further expand knowledge in this field. Painters were able to largely benefit from these experiences in their studies of colour. We merely need thinking of the Impressionists and their emulators whose artistic techniques would lead to abstract art of the 20th Century. Thanks to photography, artists would apprehend space in an entirely new way and painting would escape the confines of realism.
