Simply stated, polyphenols exist in theskinsand seeds of grapes, and polyphenols arepowerful antioxidants. Whilepolyphenol levels vary on each individual wine tested, Sagrantino wines typically haveeven more polyphenolsthan Tannat wines. Thetannin and acid in this 2017vintageof Sagrantino, in combination with itshigh levelsof polyphenols, make it worthy of aging. It spent morethan 3yearsin barrel, almost ayear in bottle, and it will continueto agenicely for yearsto come. Dr. Bob Young believesit will agelonger than most wines, and he estimatesthat it will drink well for up to 20 years.
