Hello Colonials! On behalf of the Athletic Department, I want to extend our sincerest thank you to our student-athletes for an outstanding 2019-2020 thus far and wish the best to those spring teams that are now beginning their seasons. As we strive for excellence in the classroom, on the playing surface, and throughout the community, we want to recognize all of our student-athletes who have devoted much of their time and effort in order to maintain and promote the rich tradition of athletics within the Conewago Valley School District. The Conewago Valley School District Athletic Department is committed to providing all student-athletes the opportunity to fully develop their academic and athletic potential. Student-athletes will epitomize good sportsmanship while learning to appreciate the benefits of hard work, motivation, and perseverance in practice and competition. Colonials will take pride in their accomplishments and maintain integrity in defeat. Student-athletes will represent New Oxford in the highest esteem, will learn the values of responsibility and respect, and will understand the importance of teamwork while participating in extracurricular activities. The New Oxford community has had the privilege of watching our Colonials compete and earn championships throughout the 2019-20 year so far. SUPERINTENDENT On behalf of the board of directors, administration and staff it is my pleasure to welcome you to Conewago Valley School District. Extracurricular activities are an important part of any high school program and athletic competitions can provide experiences that enrich our educational programs. However, participation in such activities should be viewed as a part of the total school program and the values associated with such involvement should be related to the overall education of the student. Too often, especially in the heat of the competition, we lose sight of the real reason for extracurricular activities and begin to focus only on wins and losses. If our program is to be successful, we must remember that the main reason for providing such activities is the experience our students gain through participation. We have been fortunate to receive good support from our community in the past and we trust that such support will continue in the future. Our administration is indebted to a large number of people who back the extracurricular programs through participation in booster organizations or as spectators who encourage our young people. It is important to us and to our students that you continue your support of our program and display good sportsmanship. Thank you for your support and GO COLONIALS!

A MESSAGE FROM THE
GREETINGS COLONIALS! Babe Ruth shared, “The way a team plays as a whole determines its success. You may have the greatest bunch of individual stars in the world, but if they don't play together, the club won't be worth a dime.” It is my sincere hope that all of our studentathletes this year truly enjoy the journey that is high school athletics, and learn to embrace failure as an opportunity to get better. I encourage our student-athletes and parents to enjoy the moment and embrace as many opportunities to create lifelong memories as are presented. As a district, our athletic program is on the rise. This is due to the strong leadership of our coaches, team captains, and administrators, as well as the hard work and dedication of our student-athletes. Parental support continues to increase, which is an integral ingredient for continuing down the road to success. The charge to the school community is to continue to be a part of the solution, and serve as a driving force behind positive change that will ultimately impact the skills and sportsmanship of our student-athletes. As we welcome our new athletic director, Mr. Doug Wherley, into the Colonial family and his first Spring season, we could not be more excited to see where his leadership, passion, and talents will take our athletic program. We have had a successful offseason of interviews, and are thrilled with our new coaching hires and the knowledge and spirit they bring to our school community. Our student-athletes will continue to define what it truly means to be a Colonial by their actions on and off the field. Traditions will be built and Colonial Nation will continue to thrive. School spirit will provide the foundation for success across all teams, and serve as the springboard for mutual support across all programs throughout the district. HEAD COACH Thank you for attending today’s game and for supporting our student athletes! The baseball team is looking forward to another exciting season. We have a strong nucleus of players that return from last season’s team. Our players have worked hard in the of -season and we look to be one of the top teams in our division. As a coaching staf , we not only expect excellence on the field, but also in the classroom and in our community. I’m certain that our players will do their very best to meet these standards. Scott Anderson Scott Anderson Varsity Head Coach
Scott Anderson >> VARSITY HEAD COACH Coach Anderson begins his 29th season in the Colonial Baseball program. He began coaching in 1992 as an assistant and was named the Head Coach in 2001. The program has won 294 games over that timespan. Coach Anderson was a Health and Physical Education teacher for 28 years at CVSD before his retirement in June of 2016. During that time he also coached Football and Wrestling. Coach Anderson and his wife Gail have been married for 36 years and live in New Oxford.

HEAD COACH I am looking forward to a great spring of lacrosse. The coaches and student athletes have put incountless hours to prepare for the season at hand. This year our team boasts experience and depth. Ournumbers are greater than ever and the constant competition on the practice field will ensure that “iron sharpens iron� I am thankful for all the parents who have stepped in to help further build the foundation of a growing and prosperous program from the youth to the high school. HEAD COACH Hello Everyone! Welcome back to Lacrosse Season!! I am extremely excited for our season to begin. We have a lot of returning players and several new ones as well. It is GREAT to see our sport growing every year! The girls are EAGERLY awaiting our season and have been working HARD in the gym and weightroom through the winter. The turnout this year was the largest yet! I want to welcome Coach Jeremy Grim to our staff this year. He will be filling the Assistant Coach role and working with the Junior Varsity. HEAD COACHES GIRLS TRACK & FIELD HEAD COACH Thank you for attending today’s meet to cheer on the Colonials! The girls track and field team is looking forward to another season of personal records and high levels of competition. We are excited about the talent our returning athletes have and newest members will be bringing to the team this year. Track is a wonderful sport where the personal success of a thrower in the field, a jumper in the pit, or a runner on the track benefits the team as a whole. The colonials are working this season for personal and team success across every event and we appreciate your support throughout the season.

BOYS TRACK & FIELD HEAD COACH To the Colonial Lacrosse Nation 2020 Spring Campaign, I am looking forward to a great spring of lacrosse. The coaches and student athletes have put in countless hours to prepare for the season at hand. This year our team boasts experience and depth. Our numbers are greater than ever and the constant competition on the practice field will ensure that “iron sharpens iron” I am thankful for all the parents who have stepped in to help further build the foundation of a growing and prosperous program from the youth to the high school. I would also like to thank the families of my assistant coaches for all of the time sacrificed so that we can prepare the 2020 team for competition.

Eva Karkuff >> GIRLS HEAD COACH Eva Karkuff is in her second year at Conewago Valley and her first year as the head Girls Varsity Track Coach. Karkuff is a seventh grade English teacher at NOMS and the High School Varsity Cross Country coach. After coaching the cross country team in the fall of 2018, Coach Karkuff joined the Colonials track team as a volunteer in the 2019 spring season. Helping where she could, Coach Karkuff was pleased to be a part of another Colonial team. Now, in the 2020 season, Karkuff is excited to lead the girls team alongside Chantal Williams, assistant girls coach, Jason Warner, head boys coach, and Steve Brown, assistant boys coach. Previously a varsity cross country, and indoor/outdoor track and field athlete at Cumberland Valley High School (‘13) and Gettysburg College (‘17), Coach Karkuff specialized in distance events, her favorites being the steeple chase and the 5,000m. However, in addition to participating in all the distance events on the track, Coach Karkuff also competed in many field events while she trained as a heptathlete for Gettysburg College. After her running career, Coach Karkuff coached cross country and track and field at Boiling Springs High School, where she worked as the head sprints coach. Coach Karkuff has greatly enjoyed her time working with the Colonial cross country and track athletes and is honored to lead the girls this season. She appreciates your support and is dedicated to helping our athletes reach their potential!
Jason Warner >> BOYS HEAD COACH Jason Warner is a 2000 graduate of New Oxford High School where he competed in Football, Basketball and Track & Field. Coach Warner continued his football and Track careers at Susquehanna University, where he was a 4-year letterwinner in Track & Field and served as Captain of the Track & Field team in his senior season of 2004. Upon graduation, Warner was hired by New Oxford High School as a Secondary Math Teacher. He immediately joined the Football and Track & Field coaching staff. In 2008, Warner took over as the Head Track & Field Coach.

The Boys Tennis team is looking forward to another season full of exciting and competitive games. It is our belief that we must be role models on and off the courts. Tennis is a gentleman’s sport and through sportsmanship on the court, our athletes learn valuable skills used both in and outside of the game. Our athletes show resiliency and do not give up. Travis Martin Varsity Head Coach
Travis Martin >> VARSITY HEAD COACH Travis Martin was hired by the Conewago Valley School District as a Health and Phys Ed teacher and the head boys and girls tennis coach in 2005. In 14 seasons under Martin, the Colonials have been on a surge of success taking the program from a 1-2 wins a year program to a consistent league and district contender. Coach Martin’s first coaching stint came at East Stroudsburg University. Martin helped coach the ESU Warriors tennis team and was their main Strength and Conditioning coach. Martin graduated with high honors and was awarded the prestigious President's Service award at East Stroudsburg University. During 2004, Martin also competed in the North American Ironman Championship at Lake Placid, NY in a time of 10 hours 59 minutes. Coach was a 4-year starter and letter winner at the ESU division 2 program. Martin was a 3-time captain and played number one 3 of the 4 years. He received 3 coaches awards and 1 MVP award as a tennis player at ESU. A native to Adams county, Martin played high school tennis at Gettysburg High School. He also competed on the soccer and wrestling teams. Martin was fortunate enough to experience districts and captainship for each sport. In 1999, Martin’s wrestling team finished 1st in the district. Martin’s high school tennis career came to a halt by losing to a state qualifier in 3 sets during the district singles tournament. Martin resides in New Oxford with his wife, Jenny and their two boys, Bryce and Brady. Martin in his down time loves going to sporting events and coaching his son’s sports teams. MANAGERS:
